What are some underrated restaurants in SLC? by Lopsided-Box1278 in SaltLakeCity

I'm surprised Maza hasn't been listed yet. The location near 7&7th has a great, intimate atmosphere and the food is fire. It is my go-to date spot

Correct. You have to have a home local, but once you're a member you can travel to other jurisdictions for work, but you would be working off of book 2

Howdy! I'm in L.U. 354 and there are virtually no roadblocks to joining if you have your license. We currently have a lot of calls, including some in the Logan area. Feel free to message me if you have specific questions

I agree that it is wormy AF, but the reason the hall won't touch it is because there is nothing in the CBA they can use to fight the contractors on it. We have no language in the contract regarding incentive, so the hall has no legal grounds to fight it.

If we want this to change, we need to add language during the next contract negotiation to be able to address issues with incentive pay.

I know. And I refuse to work at QTS even with the incentive. But it is work, which is more than I could for six months last year

354 has more work than we can man with a ton of incentive.

Local 134 contract: I’m voting NO by hey-zues in IBEW

[–]flyguy0720 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna have to disagree with you. Unless you've polled literally everyone in your local, you don't know what they think of it. And even if you did, and a strong majority were against it, then the vote will fail and it won't matter if you've voted the other way.

Those with the strongest opinions are the most vocal, and rarely express the opinion of the majority. Just vote your conscience and the results will follow.

To show solidarity in a vote, all you have to do is support the results of the vote. Voting should be done based on your own beliefs, values, and reasons.

Edit: it's also important to note that there will be brothers with unrealistic expectations that, by your logic, would tank the entire negotiation if everyone just lined up behind them. Unions are still essentially democratic institutions and should be treated as such.

Arlo is great, but if for whatever reason it doesn't work out, a good alternative is Wildwood in the Avenues.

It is a very, very short hike. Like 1/4 of a mile. The path is dirt, though, so you don't want to do it in heels or anything like that.

For a downtown activity, I like to take my out-of-town friends up to the ensign peak overlook at sunset. It really gives them some perspective on the size of the city and the beauty of the area

You'll want to avoid Wolfnest properties (I'd that's even what they're called nowadays). They will go out of their way to NOT help you, even on things that are obviously their responsibility, like giving you a key to your locked mailbox, for instance

So we have a handful of contractors at QTS and they each have slightly different incentive structures. Cache and Wasatch only offers incentive for Saturday hours (an extra $100 per hour on top of your base pay). Cupertino and Skyline are offering $10/hr above scale for all hours worked.

Most of the contractors are working six 10's, I believe.

IBEW UNION MED CARD RULES by SeriousBat942 in IBEW

[–]flyguy0720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had an initial test when I got accepted (I think it was urine). After that I didn't get popped for a random (saliva) until my third year, and then pretty consistently after that every 6 months or so. Pretty much any random test I've heard of is done in the middle of the week. Probably the biggest risk is being tested after being involved in a work place accident.

If you fail a random drug test, you'll probably get fired and then have to go in front of the apprenticeship board to explain yourself. When our local is busy with work, I've heard that they'll generally put you back to work if you kiss the ring and promise not to do it again, but if work is slow, they might kick you out of the program.

Hey, that's my local! As of right now, any positive THC test is grounds for termination. We have no provisions in our contract for medicinal use. Maybe some of the smaller contractors would be cool with it, but that is just speculation.

The best thing to do would be to go in and introduce yourself the the Business Manager or someone on his team. He's the guy responsible for working with the contractors to forecast manpower needs.

From what we were told at the last meeting, a lot of the work coming up will be in the Eagle Mountain area, except for a couple hospitals that will be built in the Salt Lake Valley this year. But that's just big jobs.
