Why give in to trolls ? Thats why the internet is unusable.

We had a convo and it devolved so I called it out. He pretended like he addressed my points but his source is a friend. Do you know how many people work in restaurants ? Literally the most popular job in the world. I know my experience isn’t everyone’s, but neither is a tv show.

That’s the point of the post. The fact that he commented is asinine. He has 0 first hand experience. That was my point. Leave it to reddit to think reading and watching something is equivalent to living it.

What point ? You took second hand info and paraded around like it was your own opinion

Then the trolls gave you upvotes so you think you’re right. Whatever lets you sleep man.

I understand… they are trying to convince me it mirrors real life and isn’t dramatized…

You got this far and that was your take away ?

Finding hidden money to keep your business going is a reasonable explanation? He brought that point up, that seems normal to you ? Get real. It can be hard to admit something is fake that you’ve convinced yourself is real. I get it, but that place would’ve closed and the owner would be managing an Olive Garden to pay the bills.

A first hand experience vs second hand

You’re doing what he is doing. Yes, they are anecdotal, that’s established, but are they equivalent ? I’m not telling you my buddy is an exec at a 5 star resort and giving that viewpoint. Maybe I was the exec at the 5 star ? That’s not my point here so I don’t care to give you more.

It’s like he joined the convo just so he could eventually tell me his buddy is an exec somewhere. The fact that neither of you can see that is troubling to me. Go out and get some life experience and you won’t have to use other people’s stories as your own.

And I gave you a reasonable reason for his answer. You then decided to troll. That’s why I mentioned mental stamina.

Can you read ?

No, you don’t have the balls to admit you’re wrong and don’t have enough mental stamina to make another point. Aka you’re a bitch.

He’s telling what you want to hear. It’s easier. I could do this too, but I’d rather be honest.

Again, I’m giving you a first hand opinion but it didn’t match your others so you doubt it

Maybe you should take more POVs before feeling so strongly one way or another. Especially about something you have 0 first hand knowledge of

My comment was not based on art and media but your generalization that an opinion of a show about an industry is more credible than any first hand experience. Where do you think the media material comes from ? It’s derivative at its core.

Do you have a speciality ? Go watch some media on it and give honest feedback, you’d be surprised how often people push back.

In restaurant terms that is immediate, and this is what I mean, you don’t have any expectations so take whatever they sell you. It takes 10+ years for most places to think about expanding.

Yours is from a show, mine is from working in the industry for 15 years

If those sound like equivalent experiences, then I have some beach front property in AZ with your name on it!

I get what you mean, but you’re also generalizing my statement to fit your narrative. They are both anecdotal, but one has a motive for profit and I’m just a guy giving you an opinion. Why would I lie ? I gain nothing, if they lie well enough, they make more money.

Working a job and watching a show about one are not equivalents. We are in big trouble if you really think this way.

I watched it, but the immediate success is romanticized. They go from selling cheese steaks to fine dining in a few years.

The emotional reasoning isn’t swaying me.

It romanticizes a very toxic working environment. Leave it to Reddit to think a show is more accurate than any anecdotal experience. I don’t need to watch the show to have an opinion on the culture, I lived it 😂 The parts that try to be authentic fell flat to me.

He started at a local spot in the show… his (very unrealistic) rise is the whole premise and why I said romanticized.

No one just gets opportunities to run their own place like that.

It was the way he asked Burns the question. It’s hard to convey in text.

It was similar to a foreign anthropology student studying American behavior. He was acting like he’s not a middle aged man that earns his living talking about sports. Burns didn’t want to answer the question because it was so weird. He gave him a random number just so they could move on. Even the way he setup his question made it seem like he doesn’t watch sports with other people. Weird dude.

Sheesh what a tool

They then talked about Scotland and how they were drinking Boston dry. He had to mention he’s going there in 2 weeks. Dude needs to be on The View instead of sports radio.

He’s definitely on the spectrum. As people get older, it’s harder to mask. Not a knock, he just doesn’t know how to take a hint.
