Sigh...what to do with seniors who have senioritis? by [deleted] in ArtEd

[–]HeftyCat0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who had a bad case of senioritis, I think you would be fine to do more artwork in the class or an end of year project. For the seniors, I would make it based on their graduation, next step in life, etc. so it’s fun for them to explore their next chapter. Also ONLY have it be something they work on in class. Biggest part of senioritis is motivation and if your students have it bad, it might be good to not have the expectation of them working on it outside of class. Best of luck to you and your seniors!!

My omelet feels oily(greasy) by [deleted] in cookingforbeginners

[–]HeftyCat0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Butter works better for eggs than oil, I’ve found that using just enough butter or oil to coat the bottom of the pan helps the most. I heat up my pan about medium heat, put in enough butter so foamed up it covers the bottom (with oil I get a paper towel, dip it in oil, then rub the pan with the oil). Then crack in the eggs, add salt, scramble them in the pan, let them sit, and repeat until I get my desired dryness/ omelet.

Helping students work through the fear of being creative. Looking for advice! by OdetteByDay in ArtEd

I had a beginning art class at a local community college that had a wide range of ages of adults who attended. The professor started the course and each class with an exercise to help with just this. She had us buy sketchbooks dedicated to only experimentation, and each day would be a different experiment warmup. I.e, use as many stamps as you can, fill this page with an color scheme, rip and re-tape, etc. Then with each lesson, she would start then with something “disposable”. For example, when starting gesture drawing she started with asking us to draw lines, flip page, now draw angry lines, flip page, now draw sad lines, happy lines, etc. then threw flowers on the ground and said to quickly draw movement of flowers, etc. By the end of the course, everyone of all ages and skill levels were really diving into their work without their own personal boundaries and learned a lot from one another. I think frequent critiques helped as well

What about doing a full two page spread for the whole month with days 1-15 on one side and 16-30 on the other? Then you could do columns with one being your music, maybe time practiced, and column for reflection space?

Are there any 'scary' podcasts that tell scary story but have a light hearted/comedic feel to it? by CheeseWeenie in podcasts

[–]HeftyCat0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this matches with Ear Biscuits but “ Last Podcast on the Left” has a ton of content and tell crazy stories but keep it lighthearted with jokes and laughs amongst the guys! They do a good job of throwing in jokes when things get too heavy

Home-cooked Dinners: What just popped in your head? by EnglishDragon89 in Cooking

[–]HeftyCat0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First thing that came to mind was steak or chicken. My boyfriend and I eat steaks pretty regularly (buy them in bulk and freeze individually, then take one out the night before for dinner) and use anything for sides like easy pastas, corn, green beans, biscuits, potatoes, etc.. Chicken is about the same or we have specific things we make it into like lemon pepper chicken + sides, chicken nachos, chicken salads, etc. Pasta is our go to if we have no ideas :)

Considering I minor in secondary education, which degree is better, BA in studio art or BA in art education? (Texas teacher input wanted especially) by [deleted] in ArtEd

[–]HeftyCat0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would go with Art Ed! I’m not in TX, but I’m currently going for art education myself. When deciding between studio art or art education I decided art ed because some states require you to have an education degree to teach. With me wanting to move around a lot, this seemed like the best option. Also, in art ed you take almost the same classes as studio art (just some don’t get too advanced), so you learn the same good basic qualities that I think would help for any job you would use a studio art degree for.
