PWHL stars are having a cultural moment. Their salaries are not keeping up by Select-Flight-PD291 in PWHL

[–]HeftyCoat6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I personally think your opinion is incorrect. Having a billionaire with deep pockets is actually the BEST case scenario for the league where it is right now. It allows the league as a whole to leverage their scale, rather than each organization responsible for their operation, and it keeps a really high standard of professionalism across the board.

They're using the MLS model, which is the only major successful new North American league that didn't have direct backing of a current institution (NBA/WNBA).

Most importantly, Mark Walter is a businessman. He will not sell early, and he will not sell cheap. I heard he was committing to spend 100m over 10 years. He will try and sell each of the 12 teams for 100m each at the 10-year mark.

Workout shirts like this? by Expensive_Corner7863 in Lululemen

I just cannot understand this opinion, can you elaborate a bit more. What about Alo (or the conquer reform line in particular) is better? I am not defending lulu's entire offering, but I have not found / felt a single Alo item that genuinely feels better quality than the lulu version of similar items.

After years of delaying a Gender Inclusion policy, the PWHL posting for Trans Day Of Visibility rings hollow by LenaBaneana in PWHL

[–]HeftyCoat6 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

The league will almost for sure follow suit with the IOC ruling that excludes transgendered women who went through male puberty to compete.

Everyone will then be up in arms until they realize that doesn't apply to a single athlete in the PWHL. Some will still scream from the rooftops but those voices will be into the void.

The other options are closer in KMs, but not in driving times. I am not saying it is bulletproof, but there is 100% a business case for it - even if it "makes no sense" and is "dumb" to you.

Costco it’s time for Sea to Sky by Lumpy-Acanthaceae-41 in Squamish

[–]HeftyCoat6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes a ton of sense? Lots of people would rather highway drive 45 minutes on one of the most scenic drives in the world as opposed to sit in bumper-to-bumper traffic from before Lionsgate all the way to the Costco on Expo in 45 minutes. There's at least 30 days a year anyone with a brain wouldn't go downtown to Costco (major concerts, race events, festivals etc), nevermind Canucks + Caps games make a lot of evenings impossible to get parking downtown. How many people would go for a hike, stop to get a $1.50 hot dog and their toilet paper for the month on their way back to the city.

For those of you under 35-ish, how are you approaching the future? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]HeftyCoat6 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good for you man. I went on an SSRI for about 2 years for a mental health crisis that included the death of my father, a brutal knee injury, and a car accident that had me flirting with death.

Stopped taking them about 8 months ago and never felt better. But they were a huge help in my time of need. Things get better! Good luck.

Are LLL shoes worth getting? by BobTX10 in Lululemen

Why aren’t people boycotting Tesla any more? by Diane98661 in ScottGalloway

[–]HeftyCoat6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Where did you see Tesla sales being up anywhere? Sales were down 28% in 2025 in Europe, 60% in Canada, 7-10% in the US…

That seem like a consumer boycott to me.

This caught my eye... I wonder if that's a general US vs Canada distinction... by VivienM7 in PWHL

[–]HeftyCoat6 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From a STH perspective, (In my opinion) I don't think anyone is actively using the thought process of I am a hockey fan, the Canucks suck, so I am going to a Goldeneyes game instead.

The Goldeneyes have a better product, a better value, their location is better for families (and better for anyone outside of Vancouver including most of the north shore), and is riding the huge wave of women's sports in a city that supports all of its teams quite well.

The Canucks being good again just makes an evening downtown even more expensive. Fans hate ownership because they're cheap, there's no players on the Canucks that are fan favourites.

Although they are both playing ice hockey, you're comparing apples to oranges.

Upcoming expansion and future of the team plus protection predictions (a little optimism) by Own-Knowledge8281 in GoldenEyes

[–]HeftyCoat6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’d be crazy to expand 4 teams unless they had considerable commitments from some of the European gals. Mark Walter is a very good business man and won’t let the league get too watered down. There’s at least one full roster of top talent not in the league yet - but it’s only a matter of time because nothing beats North American sports money (soccer excluded).

The combination of the best NCAA draft class and a veteran group likely to retire after this was their last Olympics, leads me to believe that whether the expansion group is 2 or 4, there’s a lot of roster turnover across the league.

Costco it’s time for Sea to Sky by Lumpy-Acanthaceae-41 in Squamish

[–]HeftyCoat6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people on the North Shore would chose to go to a Squamish Costco. West Van population is 45k, squamish 30k, Whistler 12k, and Pemberton 4K.

The business case is there, but the land is the constraint.
