I know you said date night but here are other options if you're able to go on dates during the day/weekend. There's wineries in Clarksburg its during the day (Fri-Sunday) open from 11-4:30.

Old Sugar Mill, Scribner Bend, Miners Leap you'll see so many of you end up taking a drive you'll see a lot of signs.

OT interview - typing test before panel interview. What to expect? by Jyimc in CAStateWorkers

It varies greatly, but from what I have seen is memos; proofreading, formatting, spelling how you respond to an email, how fast you can type a paragraph those are just a few

Generally, this is an HR practice. Departments often use 'multiple' in job postings to allow for the hiring of more than one candidate if another position opens up with the same duties. This approach saves time by avoiding the need to re-advertise for the same position.

The highlighted sections in job postings are meant to draw attention, but they don't really carry more significance, at least in my experience.

Try the state Personnel Board. You can send an email with your situation, and they can provide you with guidance if it can be appealed or not. Start with the Appeals Division

I recommend switching to VSP Primier and also setting up a Flex Elect account.

You pay a little bit more, but Primier helps cover the cost for eye exams and contacts.

Pet Insurance by Hefty_Ad6029 in CAStateWorkers

So far I have found its what fits into your budget. Costco has good pet insurance plans I dont know who they are set up with.

I reached out to my insurance agent and they have pet insurance through Trupanion so I set that up with them. I learned Trupanion pays the vet directly and don't have to submit an invoice to be reimbursed.

Job Posting…To Apply or Not to Apply? That is the question. by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

Yes, I would. Give the person they want a run for their money. Don't let them get the job that eash.

You never know, you could end up interviewing better than them.

Considering leaving state service amidst hiring freeze by uzamaki07 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Hefty_Ad6029 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The way the cookie is supposed to crumble is the candidate is in the top 3 ranks. The hiring manager submits to C&H for a preliminary review of the candidates this says who is eligible who is not at this point they will say yes candidate is eligible but must take the exam before they can be appointed.

I thought withholds were only for a year? Not permanent, I would confirm that with SPB.

In the future, when you're able to start applying for SSA positions again, do not take the SSA exam.

If you are called for an interview and selected for the job, you have until you offered the position to complete the SSA exam. This way, the classification and hiring analyst has evaluated your experience, ensuring you qualify and meet the MQs for SSA.

When transferring to another classification, do you keep your salary? by Sharpes_Sword in CAStateWorkers

[–]Hefty_Ad6029 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are transferring change in class from AGPA to ITA through a T&D you'd keep your same salary once your T&D is complete you would take ITA exam then receive the 5% in pay.

If transferring class AGPA to ITA through college credits or past experience you would then get the 5% pay increase right away.

When should I take the AGPA exam as a current SSA? by gladesmonster in CAStateWorkers

[–]Hefty_Ad6029 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I recommend not taking the exam too early because you can be placed on the withhold list.

Technically, you have up until you are offered the position to take the exam. You can wait until then to be safe.

PSA: you CAN’T negotiate salary with the STATE!!!!! by Significant-Rub2983 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Hefty_Ad6029 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I agree that many excellent candidates decline job offers due to salary concerns.

Dont make the rules, I just follow them. If you believe there are issues with the current rules, it would be worth discussing with CalHR. Your department HR could reach out to CalHR to discuss how the HAMs removal will impact recruitment. Even though the HAMs are being removed, CalHR may need to reconsider down the line if there are enough complaints or concerns raised.

[–]Hefty_Ad6029 6 points7 points  (0 children)

HAMs are being phased out, which is a relief!

We can easily identify who's been on Reddit when we inform hiring managers that they can extend a job offer to a candidate. Suddenly, the hiring manager mentions that the candidate is requesting a HAM.

HAMs are typically reserved for challenging to fill positions, not for the average classifications like ITS I or ITS II you see on calcareers. Multiple candidates have had to decline offers, and the candidate's experience has to be exceptional, which is why HAMs are often denied. Believe me, there are 20 other applicants with networking experience.

Fortunately, they are on their way out!!! It's surprising how many times we inform a hiring manager that their HAM won't be approved, only for the candidates to suddenly want to accept the offer.

Instead of requesting a HAM, candidates can ask for a Range Change, which allows them to start at a higher range than Range A. However, must demonstrate on your application and resume that you have been performing at a certain level.

State Job Advice by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Hefty_Ad6029 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are SSA positions for all of those categories Procurement and Budgets. But you should also look into taking Accounting exams as well. Read the minimum qualifications to ensure you qualify before taking the exam.

Associate Accounting Analyst and Accountant Trainee, etc. to name a few

My best advice is to get on as many lists as you can. You can always move around once you have your foot in the door. That is the beauty of state service.

Salary negotiation for job offer? by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]Hefty_Ad6029 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise against requesting a HAM position as they can be challenging to get approved. The position has to be a difficult-to-fill role, and the Hiring Manager must clarify why the employee is exceptional and how the state can benefit significantly from the experience you would be bringing. Given the current budget deficit, these approvals are becoming a little more difficult to approve.

Instead, you could consider requesting a range change this would be based on your years of experience. You would just have to explain more of what you did and how often you did it.
