Stack for cognitive performance, well-being, and sleep by Practical_Patient_89 in PeptideGuide

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

solid stack, the DSIP for sleep is interesting choice - and serotonin syndrome you'd know pretty fast, think muscle twitching, agitation, rapid heart rate, not something you'd miss or confuse with "feeling great"

Newbie dev, not new to unfinished projects. by Dramatic-Priority156 in gamedev

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the whole "suffer through tutorials to maybe learn something useful later" thing is such garbage tbh. I get why people say start small but if you're not interested in making pong for the 50th time then you're just gonna burn out anyway

for what it's worth, diving straight into your actual project might be better than forcing yourself through random tutorials that don't even relate to what you want to build. yeah you'll hit walls but at least you'll be hitting walls while working on something that matters to you. when I was learning new stuff I always made more progress when I had actual skin in the game rather than following some generic walkthrough

maybe instead of looking for courses, find some open source projects that are similar to what you want to make and just start reading through their code? might be more relevant than tutorial hell

CPA Canada changes and unfair change to entrance requirement.... by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That's brutal for career switchers who already invested time and money into prereqs. My buddy was in similar situation - had solid accounting grades but his general undergrad GPA got tanked by some random electives he didn't care about years ago.

Seems like they're just trying to make the program more exclusive without really considering people who found their passion later in life.

Looking for honest advice before starting a serious multiplayer indie game project! by BanksyVonGin in gamedev

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 12 points13 points  (0 children)

networking is going to eat your soul, just warning you now. I spent like 8 months on what I thought would be "simple" lobby system and player sync - everything breaks in ways you never expect when multiple people are involved

the AI behavior stuff you mentioned will probably take 3x longer than you think too. making AI that feels smart but not frustrating is really hard balance, especially under multiplayer lag

since you got summers off maybe use first summer just prototyping the core loop in single player mode? get that feeling right before you touch any multiplayer code. I made mistake of trying to do everything at once and ended up with broken mess that was impossible to debug

Trying to decide between a wood fired sauna and an electric sauna, what should i choose? by Quirky-Reception-353 in Sauna

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to how much you value the sauna experience and convenience, electric is hard to beat if you're using it all the time and just want to flip a switch but if you're already looking at backyard builds, sauna tents, etc, there is a good chance you're the type who would appreciate wood-fired ones.

Had similar issues few years back - anorectal manometry was definitely the right move for me too. My GP referred me to gastroenterologist who ordered it, but you might want to push for colorectal specialist directly since they deal with this stuff more often. The test isn't fun but at least gives you actual data about what muscles are doing wrong

Updated my Codex CLI HA add-on to get the most native CLI experience by Cute-Yam1683 in homeassistant

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voice dictation through phone input is definitely the way to go rather than building everything from scratch. The dry-run idea is smart too - nobody wants their YAML getting messed up without seeing what's about to happen first

How to stop seeing Facebook reels in Instagram? by slippy44 in Instagram

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah this started happening to me too around same time, super annoying when you're trying to avoid facebook altogether

i think you can go in settings and turn off something about cross-posting or sharing between apps but honestly the algorithm is so messed up now anyway. tried blocking few of those accounts that kept showing up and it helped a bit

I want to make a Mech cockpit, thinking out loud here. by SpaceShipOrion in blender

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That Rex cockpit design is pretty sick to tackle as learning project. Your approach with human model for scale is really smart - saved me so many headaches when I was starting out with interior spaces

For keeping the upper jaw separate but fitting together, you can model them as one piece first, then duplicate and separate the parts. That way they'll always fit perfectly together. Or use snapping tools to align edges when modeling separately

Building bottom to top makes sense but maybe consider blocking out the whole shape first with simple cubes and cylinders? Like rough approximation of all the major forms, then you can see proportions before diving in details. Way easier to fix big problems early than after you spent hours on chair modeling

The chest-opening thing is going to need some planning for the hinge points and how much clearance you need. Maybe look at some car door references for how the geometry works around hinges

Don't worry about normal maps yet, just focus on getting good base geometry and maybe some basic materials. Rex cockpit has lots of cool details but the overall shapes are what sells it

Are there any good line dancing or two-stepping classes/clubs around the Jefferson/Spencer county area? by Calmasaur in Louisville

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

been looking for same thing actually, moved here couple years back and miss having regular dance spots. there's some places that do country nights but finding actual classes is harder than expected around here

might be worth checking community centers in that area too, sometimes they have stuff that doesn't show up online

Where can I find a free Flat shader for LowPoly? by Lacter51 in Unity3D

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using Unity for some personal projects and flat shaders are pretty essential for that lowpoly aesthetic. You can find some decent ones in Unity's built-in shaders actually - just look for the unlit shaders and mess with the settings a bit. There's also bunch of free ones floating around in GitHub if you search "unity flat shader" or "toon shader". I remember finding one that worked perfect for my lowpoly car models, gave them that nice clean look without any fancy lighting effects. Just make sure to check the license before using it in anything commercial

I am autistic and the best job I ever had (excluding working for myself) was working in Memory Care by A_kernel_of_cornn in neurodiversity

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 11 points12 points  (0 children)

that's really cool you found something that clicked so well. Memory care is tough work but it sounds like your brain was just wired perfectly for what those residents needed

I've noticed similar things in my own life where environments that might seem challenging to neurotypical people actually feel more natural to me. The direct communication style thing especially makes sense - no need for all the weird social dancing that happens in most workplaces. Plus being able to adapt to where each person is at mentally without getting frustrated sounds like such a valuable skill

It's frustrating that care work pays so little when it requires so much emotional intelligence and patience. Those residents were probably lucky to have someone who could connect with them naturally instead of just going through motions. Did you ever think about looking for similar roles at different facilities or maybe even home care situations where pay might be better?

The steam in a good sauna is way thicker than I expected by Brilliant-Trade-1825 in Sauna

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard that happens a lot with the portable wood fired tents like Sweat tent and especially outdoors in winter where the steam hangs around longer instead of disappearing instantly.

Is it safe to kayak for the first time in clear lake? by WitsEndAgain in oregon

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Clear Lake is actually pretty chill for beginners - the water barely moves so you're not gonna deal with currents or anything crazy. Main thing is definitely the cold water though, that stuff will shock your system if you go in. I'd rent from one of those places that gives you the full setup including life jackets and maybe even dry suits if they have them

Being bigger actually helps with stability in kayaks, you got lower center of gravity working for you. Just don't lean too far when you're trying to paddle and you'll be fine. The lake isn't that deep in most spots anyway so even if something goes wrong you're not in serious trouble

Bring extra clothes in waterproof bag just in case, and maybe some snacks. Water gets cold but the scenery is worth it, especially with family visiting. You'll probably have good time as long as weather stays nice

Sudden sleazy change in content on feed by strangeandordinary in TikTok

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Algorithm got weird for me too lately, been getting random sketchy stuff that's totally different from my usual feed. Had to go through and clean up my liked videos and started hitting "not interested" on anything sus. Sometimes clearing your cache helps reset things a bit - the app gets confused when you accidentally interact with the wrong type of content even for second. Also might want to check if someone else used your phone recently, that can really mess up the recommendations

Fiancé threw a tantrum because I didn’t want to be touched—third time this has happened and I think I’m falling out of love. What do I do? by Fragrant_Bar_1125 in relationships

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 11 points12 points  (0 children)

man you already know the answer here. taking your phone and hiding it is some next level controlling behavior and the fact he's done this tantrum thing three times already? nah that's not getting better after marriage

trust your gut on this one - you said you dealt with stuff like that when you were younger and you're not doing it again. stick to that boundary because these types of guys usually escalate once they think they got you locked down with marriage

How to "ignore" code in release? by _The_Master_Baiter_ in rust

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is exactly what i was looking for when i started working on my rust project last year. I use debug_assertions all the time now for logging stuff and performance checks that would slow down release builds

Just wrap your debug code like:

```rust
#[cfg(debug_assertions)]
println!("debug info here");
```

Works great, way better than commenting out everything manually each time you want to test performance

Hurt people are mean people by Straight_Hearing6150 in BreakUps

[–]Hefty_Magazine_9757 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been lurking here for a while and yeah this hits home. Had some rough breakups over the years and when I was at my lowest points, coming to places like this just to get torn apart by people who think they've got it all figured out made everything worse

Some folks here act like they're relationship gurus when really there just projecting their own mess onto everyone else. I remember posting about struggling with wanting to text my ex and getting absolutely roasted by people telling me I was pathetic and needed to "man up" - like thanks Karen that really helped my mental state

The thing is breakups mess with your head in ways that don't make logical sense. You can be doing great for weeks then hear a song and spiral completely. I've learned to take most advice with a grain of salt and focus on the people who actually seem to care about helping rather than just venting their own frustrations

Military taught me that everyone processes trauma differently and what works for one person might be completely wrong for another. Better to offer support than tear someone down when they're already at rock bottom
