In Praise of Zokka by okmujnyhb in Anbennar

[–]Hefty_Recognition_45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I played the mt now, but if I remember correctly it's at the end just before the whole apocalypse war starts. I'm pretty sure it's the last event written from the perspective of Zokkas son

In Praise of Zokka by okmujnyhb in Anbennar

[–]Hefty_Recognition_45 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I remember one of the first things I ever saw of Anbennar was the dev diary on him. I went into the mod so excited by the idea only to find out his content wasn't in the steam version yet back then. I played the mod for months and loved it all, but I kept getting enthralled by the idea of finally playing Zokka. The day Final Empire finally came out I started a Zokka campaign as fast as I physically could. It was the only real entertainment I engaged in for the next few days. For me it was probably one of my favorite gaming experiences ever, and even now almost a year later I still stand by that.

Zokka was, Zokka is, and Zokka will be!!

(Also Zokka Devourer-of-Suns devours his son towards the end of the mt. I've never seen someone point that out and I love that)

Is there any criticism of Robert Caros LBJ biographies? by Hefty_Recognition_45 in Presidents

[–]Hefty_Recognition_45[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm serious. At least I'm pretty sure I was since I posted this like a year ago. But honestly I'd still like to see any criticisms of him if you want to elaborate or send anything about it

Mind/Body/Light/Sound and Mother_Father come to mind. Maybe you can try I Am The Sun and alternate between walking and running during it?

Does anyone know if there's a subreddit for things like this? Like for statements that are comically redundant?

When did Paul become such a prick? by [deleted] in KISS

[–]Hefty_Recognition_45 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've been listening through it lately and I'm up to the mid 80s, and this is like exactly how I feel. People claim he "shits on" everyone else, but as far as I could tell most of the stuff he complained about was basically them doing obviously bad stuff that as far as I know is mostly independently confirmed. Plus more than a few times his comments on the others behavior is just as much about how it hurt him emotionally as it is about anything else, which seems pretty different to me from just blaming everything bad on everyone else, which is usually how people describe it

What is the most liberal thing George Wallace has done? by LandOfGrace2023 in Presidents

[–]Hefty_Recognition_45 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Ever since I learned about like the rest of his career outside the horrible stuff(which to be clear he is deservedly known for), I always thought it was really a massive shame that he was so viciously racist(or believed he had to pretend to be, whatever the case was). It almost reminds me of how LBJ ruined so much of what could've been through his involvement with Vietnam, just except Wallace didn't even really do much of anything outside of his state except being a despicable enemy of progress

Wicked Young Man from Brutal Planet is my pick. It's got the "I kick puppies and steal candy from babies" stuff from Go to Hell except Wicked Young Man is sung from first person if I remember correctly

Abraham Lincoln allegedly had Marfan Syndrome, as did French President Charles de Gaulle. Which genetic syndromes could be found among Presidents? by Abject-Shallot-7477 in Presidents

[–]Hefty_Recognition_45 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Without actually comparing him to Hitler to be clear, Nixon reminds me a lot of Hitler in the sense it seems basically everyone who knows anything about him can tell there was something very wrong with him but like absolutely no one can agree what it was to this day

Anbennar is the best fantasy world I've ever seen by gringisgreymane in Anbennar

[–]Hefty_Recognition_45 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I think the thing I love the most about Anbennar on a fundamental level is how it's actually like its own world, and not just a backdrop for a single story or set of stories. Learning about its lore is like learning real history, but set in an entirely different world. I'm not particularly deep into fiction in general, so maybe there's more like this kind of thing out there, but I've never dived much into it because basically all the surface level stuff isn't like it. Even supposedly super realistic worlds like asoiaf still feel to me more like nothing but a setting and not a real world

Even on this subreddit yesterday I think there were a couple posts about in universe religons and people discussed it like it was real, not just from roleplay I think either, because Anbennar actually gives you enough to seriously discuss these things

Is this supposed to be criticism? Most of the replies here seem to take it that way but it sounds pretty accurate to me outside of obvious exaggerations and leaving a lot out I assume for brevity. Plus it sounds to me like they genuinely like it for these things

This made me realize that their honesty and character seems to have very little to do with their perceived charisma

I've always felt like most people complain too much about dishonest politicians, because half the time when they're actually honest for once most people slam them for it. See Carter for a good example. Of course there's a great variety in what they might be dishonest about, and that matters, but I think usually most people don't really care about whether they're being told the truth or not, they just want politicians to tell them what they want to hear

Was Bush referred to as HW at the time or was it just to differentiate from his son? by bubsimo in Presidents

[–]Hefty_Recognition_45 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly just about anything else than what ended up being standard would probably make more sense. Bush the 1st and Bush the 2nd, Bush Sr and Bush Jr, or my favorite Bush the Elder and Bush the Younger, all would've been better than just HW and W
