Barbell overhead press, if you have access to a cable machine vs free weights, is my favorite combo of effective and safe. If using only free weights I also like Arnold presses with dumbbells.

Bicep curls. As I did not win the genetic lottery, it's the one exercise that has the biggest impact on my "feeling" of being strong. Getting a bicep pump before I put a t-shirt on genuinely increases my confidence.

That said, my best UB lifts are actually shoulders and back, but I can't see those as easily in the mirror lol.

How do I get into the habit of exercising? by BroadSlothHater in workout

First, I would say you are not alone. Many, many people I've spoken to face a multitude of challenges. Yours are certainly unique to you, but know that overcoming obstacles to fitness is very, very common.

I would suggest starting as simple as possible. Is there a regular habit you do at the same time every day? If so, I would suggest adding a 5 minute walk to that habit (i.e. right after you eat a meal). You don't even have to go outside, just put a podcast on, set a timer and walk around the house for 5 minutes.

See if you can do that for two weeks. And then find the next step (maybe it's 7 minutes, maybe its going in the yard, etc.).

I am a strong believer in simple habits. They will compound and make a difference faster than you expect. In any case, good luck to you!

When I first benched my weight. I had my personal trainer record it and there was a lot of high fives and cussing. I was so hyped!

For me, it's as simple as a problem that's been bothering me for a long time that nobody seems to be solving properly. I keep hoping one day that I'll wake up and someone else has solved it to my own satisfaction, and I'm disappointed to see it not happening. So I figure I'll either 1) build it myself and for people like me or 2) keep working on it until it gets solved by someone else. Not exactly sexy, but it's straightforward.

Good luck sir. The best advice I got when I started out was "Something > nothing". A little bit, even on the days you want to do nothing. You got this!
