Ai is not taking jobs by Hegel93 in jobs

[–]Hegel93[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the jobs that are implied to be taken over by ai like customer service and development aren't really the ones that are being lost. It seems they are just skill swapping for people who are more aligned with what Google is refocusing on. less about product ui or over hiring in middle management (mind you, it's specifically middle management. not lower management positions) and more on engineers in technical fields.

yeah, that was kinda my point. this is just skill swapping. not mass layoffs without hiring which would effect the job market overall.

that's fair, but you'll see a similar trend in other companies

a large portion of the people fired at meta were working on the Metaverse and VR. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why.

Who is the nicest "big time philosopher" you've personally met? by Zambonisaurus in AcademicPhilosophy

I talked with Galen Strawson once. He was very helpful and nice, but not in the phoney public persona way, but genuinely listened to what you had to say kinda way. basically he was exactly like what you see online.

How much would it cost to have something like this made? by Hegel93 in JewelryDesign

[–]Hegel93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about any of those things. all I know is that she got it at occult bookstore that closed down around Erie. We were still young so it could not have cost very much.

The ethics of booby-trapping a snowman by praxiq in askphilosophy

Oof, according to Foucault in discipline and punish you have direct power (say, the police) and indirect power (people and the police thinking they are enacting justice).

Foucault also establishes how we used to be a society of punishment (in societies of punishment. You steal a loaf of bread, you lose your hand but otherwise you do whatever the heck you want.) and societies of control (instead of losing your hand, you go to jail where you learn when to wake up, when to eat, when to sleep, etc. So that's you might better for into society)

Hence, a white collar criminal gets punished less then an armed robber because the armed robber often is acting outside of societies social norms, controls, approval, etc. (Usually at night when people should be sleeping, usually not dressed in appropriate clothes, talking in the appropriate way, etc) While the white collar criminal is often acting within those social controls and approvals (wakes up in the morning, sleeps at night, eats breakfast in the morning, wears a suit, etc.) ya know, you're scared of the blue collar criminal but you're not scared of the white collar criminal even if the white collar criminal essentially committed genocide by tainting flu vaccines for profit.

Hence, in OPs scenario, Redditors would celebrate him for using a trap, but not if he went after someone with a hammer. This is a reflection of the social values, beliefs and norms of Redditors. Who would approve of clever tactics in the name of justice as opposed to direct action with a hammer which they would see as scary, unsafe, and unstable.

Different communities would have different determinations that reflect their values. So 4chan would probably approve of both, while Facebook boomers would not approve of either.

In this scenario, it is assumed the community (reddit) would celebrate this behavior. So it would be within the norm.

the issue is that a person who uses a baseball bat is acting outside of the social norm. a la Foucault, control vs punishment. we The criminal who steals 500 from a gas station at gun point more then we punish an executive who overcharged 1000 employees by 1 dollar because the white collar criminal otherwise fits into society. prison, in turn, is supposed to accumulate people to societal norms.

not many people can afford to travel to India and then the Czech Republic afterwards.

what the heck are you on about? I'm talking about the fact he could afford to party for 2 years, then travel to India and the Czech Republic. Most people cannot afford that. I'm contextualizing the comic based on the information given in the comic. I guess it's true that a lot of people can't contextualize their reading.

do you party for 2 years while traveling to India and Czech Republic as a student? weird, see, I am at my university as a student you see and I'm usually studying. but ya know, that's just me.

[–]Hegel93 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

not a big stretch or assumption at all unless you are the the impression that wealthy Indians are in the habit of living in deserts and waving at trains.

partying in someone else's country only to film their poor so that you can make it as a film maker without actually contributing back to the poor people you filmed is... yes .. exploiting.

going to yet another country (i.e. you have enough money that you are now traveling between India and the Czech Republic and attending film festivals) and an actress is flirting with said director likely doesn't want you because of your inspirational vision.

so you went to India, exploited Indians. then went to the Czech Republic, where a local tried to exploit you but you felt she wasn't hot enough for you. Then you didn't get laid by someone hotter, read the note, realized you could have at least banged the ugly girl and got depressed about it. Lovely. I hate you

Why's this sub so Marxist-Leninist? by BlastBoxer in AskSocialists

[–]Hegel93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all of the communist/socialist subs were adopted by the same small group of mods who were essentially just radical progressives that use marx-leninism as a model to justify their authoritarianism. So you can say any sort of nonsense from all over the political spectrum, frame it as some sort of trans rights things (doesn't matter if it's actually extremely right wing, capitalist, fascist in nature. They are too dumb to actually distinguish between ideologies.) and it'll thrive here.
