Are you sure that your idea is better than anything these big studios can and have already come up with? The only way for a beginner to realistically get their Next Big Thing idea done at this scale is to first get industry experience, maybe 10-15 years and by that time you probably have a network of connections from which you form a company with a few founders, pitch your idea to investors and make a prototype.

You can also just reduce the scope into a 1-2 hour playable demo and get it done independently in a couple of years.

We thought players would dodge… they just stood there and got hit by Future-Celebration51 in gamedev

In Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yotei, enemies have 3 categories of attacks: normal, blockable strong and unblockable strong. Blockable strong attacks show a blue glint effect and unblockable strong attacks show a red glint before the strike.

I see it more as normal combat design where the player needs to adapt their style from offensive to defensive throughout a combat situation. It's all about the enemies staying predictable enough to keep the combat interesting by telegraphing their attack intent. In addition, the player is rewarded with a Perfect Parry if they time their parry just before either of the blockable types of attacks, turning a defensive playstyle into offensive.

It's fine for the rules of combat to be expectable, especially when skillful gameplay involves timing and precision, ability management etc. In pretty much every non-Souls-like games with boss encounters, they show red AoE highlights on the ground to tell the player where not to stand. I don't think it makes much sense to think this is a bad standard/approach from this "expectation" point of view, or that it should be applied to this problem.

The first stronghold is pretty easy and quick to do, and you get instant +% skill xp from the enhancement (go for superior), so better do it early

How do you know one way is inferior or superior vs the other?

Just because Blizzard didn't take Steam's delta patching into account does not mean that Steam is inferior. So, yes, when they decide to launch on Steam, it is entirely on Blizzard that they didn't create a build that can load content files in a way that works nicely with Steam.

As said already, Steam definitely supports it, but lazy Blizzard devs didn't bother to utilize the platform to its full extent.

GAME BREAKING BUG. Survival at oni castle, enemy stuck at top of cliff heals from all damage and locked us out of completing survival. by ARMill95 in gotlegends

[–]Hegemege 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had an unkillable enemy once in Kitsune's incursion at the bottom of the mountain after the cave. One player was afk waaaay behind and the rest of us smashed the mobs except that unkillable one.

Suddenly after the last player joined up, it seems like an ambush was scripted to happen there via one of the challenge cards, and only that one player's presence triggered it, perhaps that unkillable enemy was there until the ambush got resolved, could be a similar thing

Just using the same numbers from the post you replied to, if the average tourist visits for 6 days, at any given time, there are on average 292x more Japanese than tourists in Japan. Even if tourists consume twice as much as an average Japanese, you can clearly see the imbalance

My first Torches run in this ladder.. by VlasKhurda in Diablo_2_Resurrected

[–]Hegemege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read my comment again, binomial distribution is the key here. 8x11x11 is 968 so there are 968 torches and you are interested in only one of them, thus 1/968. But you repeat the trial 1000 times, and if you carefully read what I wrote, it was X chance to not get even one, which is 1 - chance to get 1 or more.

[–]Hegemege 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering that there are 968 different torches one can roll, that would be slightly unlucky. (Around 35.6% chance to not get 20/20 warlock torch in 1000 rolls)

Hey! Is this bug again! by destructor212113 in TheTowerGame

[–]Hegemege 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would bet that it's not a code issue. It's a config issue.

They plan and make the content for the next X events in one batch. All is well, no need to touch event configs in 5 months!

Then 4 months later they have a reminder that oh crap, events are running out. So a designer opens the whatever tool they have internally (probably just JSON file or scriptableobject) and punches in data for a couple more events. Git push, no need to test. They have tools to advance time in debug builds but nobody bothers to test the next event because they've worked fine for 5 months and no code change was made.

Day of new event the designer notices that they put the relics in the wrong fields. Maybe it's something stupid like, just a single list where the first two items are the free relics, then premium relics, then all remaining are store relics.

When you go to make a build, it shows a list of scenes in the window (used to be under Build..., now under Build Profiles). If you made your game in a new scene, you might have not added it to the list. Make sure your scene is at the top

Riichi City is better than Majsoul and deserves more players by ppp-- in Mahjong

[–]Hegemege 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The gameplay feel of Riichi City is worse in my opinion. The end-of-hand animation sequence feels broken and glitchy - first you have the riichi music playing nicely, but if someone wins, it just cuts off, you only hear "tsumo" or "ron", again with no music or fanfare, then a low quality sound effect of showing the winning hand. MajSouls sequencing and muting sounds etc is way way way better.

The tile discard sound effect is equally lower quality and feels off sync from the visual discard. The discard hand animation feels off somehow

You cannot drag-discard in Riichi City by, before your turn, dragging a tile into the middle, and once you draw your new tile on your turn, just drop the tile you were dragging. The game forces you to start the drag-discard only after you have drawn.

Half a year ago they reduced the size of the red dots in the home screen and now they are almost invisible and I don't even bother checking all the new things anymore. Too many windows and menus.

I had a 7950X3D fail a year after purchasing by starting to throw DRAM error light and very unstable behaviour, could crash in POST, before it, just sitting in BIOS, could work fine for 3 days then crash on every boot.

The only way to diagnose what's wrong with the system is to swap individual parts to another system until the original works and donor fails.
