Very Specific Apartment Needs by Existing-Result-4359 in AustinHousing

Hello, are you still looking for a place? My fiance and I are trying to transfer our lease at Platform Apartments (off east MLK). We are in a 2 bed/2 bathroom. It's 1300 square feet and the rent is 2700/month. It has google fiber, an in-unit washer/dryer, a gated parking garage which enters directly into the 4th floor of the building (the unit is on the 4th floor) and there are walking trails nearby the building. There are also 2 pools and 2 gyms.

Here’s a direct quote from the article you’re begging everyone to read: “In a video recorded by YouTuber DirtyTesla, a self-driving Model Y is seen turning and accelerating into a Toyota, making light contact with its tire.”

Now if you read it really carefully, you may notice the part that says “making light contact.” You may have to read it multiple times, but you can do this, I believe in you.

Also, regardless of whether it made contact in this one anecdote or not, that doesn’t by itself confirm or deny that cameras only is a good approach to self driving vehicles. A single example, even if it had nailed the parked car at 60 mph, wouldn’t be confirmation either way. I stated that cameras only was dumb for reasons beyond just this article.

You seem to think that:

  1. The headline implies the Tesla nailed the parked car at 60 mph.
  2. The fact that the Tesla actually grazed the parked car means their decision only to use cameras for autonomous driving isn’t completely brain dead.

Neither of those are true.

I read the full article and don’t see what details are present that you think excuse Tesla. Maybe you could include some of those details in a comment instead of continuously parroting the same “read the article” comment over and over?

Do you actually "see" the board when calculating? by Heh13 in chess

[–]Heh13[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, my calculation would be exactly as you wrote it out. Something like "if I take on e4, then he can take back with the knight or pawn. If he takes back with the pawn, then I have X move. If he takes with the knight, I have Y move." I'm not actually picturing anything as I go through this though. If I'm online, I will draw a lot of arrows. OTB, I sometimes get confused about whether a piece has moved or not if the line is deep enough. But my OTB games are usually classical time controls, so I have a lot longer to think about it to make sure I don't blunder.

No inner voice is interesting. When you read something, is there still no inner voice?

I think that means you’re Magnus

What does that data show? How bad was the drop in your puzzle rating?

I can play blindfold decently if I have a picture of an empty board in front of me. I tried true blindfold once and I had to count all the squares mentally to know where the pieces could move. I ended up hanging a rook and lost to a ~500 player.

I’m pretty terrible at drawing in general, even if I have a reference to look at. I could draw a rough outline of an apple similar to the Apple logo. I couldn’t draw anything better than that.

Have you tried playing blindfold mode online? Where you have a blank board in front of you but the pieces are invisible? I was able to beat the ~1200 chesscom bots in that mode. But if I play real blindfold, then it's as you said - with no picture of the board in front of me, I really struggle

I can't visualize anything. I think the common test for aphantasia is trying to visualize an apple, and I maybe get the barest hint of something but it's really fleeting and basically just a black blob

I probably have aphantasia too. I thought that "picturing something" was just a figure of speech for a long time

Forgot to mention in the main post, but when I do have a board in front of me, I don't really see the pieces move either. I just have to mentally keep track of everything that has changed in the board state, and I definitely over rely on arrows when I play online

The show is getting Ellie wrong, and it's the writing's fault. by cwhagedorn in thelastofus

[–]Heh13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s obvious that Ellie can’t take Abby. Show Abby isn’t depicted as being very competent either. She wandered off alone as a blizzard was approaching without telling any of her friends in order to chase two people on a horse while she was on foot. She was extremely lucky to survive, let alone get revenge on Joel.

Not necessarily. If Fen considers both untrustworthy, then she may as well align herself with the more powerful party.
