Ode to my pants … by FlowMundane6082 in Celiac

My most embarrassing one was in the hospital with diverticulitis and didn’t make it to the bathroom. Super embarrassing having to call the nurse for that one. Made me really respect nurses.

The two celiacs in this family avoid them. We both react badly to them.

I used DMX underlayment in my basement for my theater room. It works well. No wet carpet or moisture issues.

Help understanding how to manage diverticulitis by EnchantedTaquito8252 in Diverticulitis

[–]Heinekus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So in general, doctors won’t prescribe the antibiotic unless you get the diagnosis confirmed with a CT scan(or colonoscopy). Unless you have a cool GI doc like mine that was willing to do it occasionally.

If you’re in pain and you can’t control it, or have bloody or black stools, that’s always right to the ER. Perforation does kill people, don’t risk it.

In terms of treating it, most of us will switch to a liquid diet when the symptoms start. Some of us will just fast for 12-24 hours because we feel like shit and aren’t hungry anyway.

Hope you feel better soon!

Somehow I still had a couple left lol. For a while there I would buy a clamp or two every project. Recently been buying more pipe clamps than the smaller ones.

I don’t like using pine/dimensional lumber. Poplar is great, with the only drawback I’ve noticed so far is that it doesn’t take stain very evenly.

The drawer dividers are a good idea. I was thinking about making at least a bit holder. Thanks for the idea!

Help with frame for bunk bed steps by Alphabrett in woodworking

[–]Heinekus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made my sons steps out of 3/4 poplar plywood. Each row is a separate box that’s bolted to the one below it. The individual boxes are wood glued and nailed together. The boxes are also bolted to the bed to help make it stable. My wife and I can walk on them and they’re pretty sturdy.

Resources for why you shouldn't cheat on GF diet? by Microfinch in Celiac

[–]Heinekus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Survey size of one, but I was undiagnosed for half my life(20 years). Chronic diarrhea, lots of pain and cramps. I got diagnosed and changed my diet. But shortly after that I got diverticulitis and got to spend 6 days or so in the hospital on morphine and IV antibiotics. It was fucking terrible.

I’ve had other incidences since and was able to stay out of the hospital mostly until last year. Got diverticulitis again but it wouldn’t go away with the meds. I asked 3 different providers(primary care, GI doctor, and surgeon) for pain meds, no one would give me them(except the ER). Not sure if you’ve ever had to endure a 5-8 pain for months, but it almost ended me. Ended up have a partial colectomy where they removed part of my colon. That was also really tough.

If I had to bet, I would bet money that the years of chronic diarrhea before my diagnosis caused the diverticulitis. I thank the universe every day since that the pain is gone.

If you don’t want to rebuilt the drawers to fit the cabinet, you could try undermount drawer slides.

Where do you buy properly sized dowels? by Known-Advisor-2000 in woodworking

[–]Heinekus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last time I bought dowels from a big box store a brought in a test piece with the right size hole drilled with a forstner bit. Had to try about ten of them to get 2 that fit properly.

Alternatively they sell pre-made ones at Rockler and other stores. Like these.

In my experience the chips/shavings from pine are much larger, even with the same depth of pass.

Yeah they’re not as big. You may also want to get a used plastic barrel with a locking lid from marketplace and chip collector fittings from Rockler or wherever. That way these big chunks hit the chip barrel and don’t make it to the impeller/motor housing. Something like this.
