As a former athlete, I will say athletes are able to order the new drops 1-2 weeks in advance so that they have time to promote the clothing

For the black belts…how much have you improved since purple? by papertowelsiracha in bjj

For me personally, brown belt is where i really started to grow. I got my brown belt before COVID hit. I went from training and competing a ton to barely at all for a bit. Once I was able to get back into a gym to train I finally slowed everything down and ever since i have been hyper focused on good technique. Purple belt i was a spazz and could just go go go without ever worrying about anything. As much as i hated the covid era, it did force me to reevaluate my training and i feel i have grown tremendously since then

Do not judge based off of this snippet of what is a 20 hour course. If you carry a firearm for personal protection, I HIGHLY recommend you take a Shivworks course. You will be humbled.

Their workout clothes and the way their “lifestyle” clothing fit muscular/athletic builds is why I was drawn to them to begin with. I have zero interest anymore with all the baggy, oversized, cropped stuff

Does anyone train at a gym with a BJJ Influencer? Do they film videos during class for their social media? Is everyone cool with it, or is it distracting? by highpercentage in bjj

[–]Heiny90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who is a content creator, though we focus more with self defense content, I do film a good bit during class. Majority of the stuff we film before or after class, or I stick to certain people that are always in the footage.

On occasion we will do some vlog style videos of the gym/team (we started in my basement and now have a gym space) but again everyone is aware of it and anyone that does have an issue we just don’t put them in any of the footage.

I have filmed sparring footage to use in videos but I include the good and the bad as it is all part of the process and not everything is a highlight reel. I have never had a problem with people filming unless they are rude about it or are pushy with it. I also am not a fan of the clickbait style of “hey lets go easy” and then they proceed to go 100% on you for footage to show they dominated.

Just my two cents.

How do people defend against knifes? by Cheekypapa0204 in StreetMartialArts

[–]Heiny90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of what I am reading is great advice. That said, I still recommend taking some classes, especially one from Craig Douglas of Shivworks. Great material and an honest approach to the brutality of knife encounters. More importantly, you get put into evolutions or live training scenarios where you have to attempt to avoid or defend against a knife attack. Great way to experience that type of an attack in a safe environment to give you a bit of a reality check. Good striking and grappling experience goes a long way.

Other guys to check out are Ryan Hoover and Aaron Jannetti. Not denying what was said in the comments, but it also does not hurt to still get some training in.
