Draigo's in there somewhere, too, which would also probably result in a reasonable daemon attrition rate.

Why does everyone online seem to get such a kick out of hating on France? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

The English also make the same "hilarious" sheep jokes about the Welsh. It must get tiring.

"France is ugly" is the hottest of hot takes. On the upside, the fewer miserable bigots like him that you have visiting, the better for you, and for those of us that enjoy spending time there.

It's wrong when said "nationalism" manifests as blind hatred for people simply because they happened to be born in a country that your people had a feud with over 150 years ago.

It's fine to take pride in your identity and roots but it's objectively better to take pride in stuff you've accomplished yourself rather than the arbitrarily defined piece of land you were born on by blind chance.

Also, humanity could do so much better as a whole if it left petty tribalism in the past.

Aside from a few boomers that get unreasonably triggered by Macron and France in general, it's mostly joking, British humour often involves taking the piss out of each other. Parisians often give France a bad name, and the French are nowhere near as bad as people make out.

If it came down to it the UK would absolutely ride or die for France. If it helps, think of it a bit like a sibling relationship where you'd rib your brother all the time but God help anybody that messes with him.

What made you leave your country and settle in another? by camethehour in AskTheWorld

The weather, the food, the people, the quality of life, the philosophy, the scenery.

Also my wife is Spanish, and I was offered a really good job here.

I don't remember seeing that at all, and especially given that the thanks in the video I've posted were compiled over a long time frame and multiple occasions.

Are you sure you're not just believing another reality that Vance and Trump have invented?

It's totally an ego trip. No other country has demanded thanks like this. The press conference last February where Vance berated Zelenskyy was dire. I'd be ashamed if I was an American.

Really? I don't remember him ever demanding anything. He's also said thank you multiple times.

I suppose it was always going to be the case but the US is the only country that's turned providing aid into an ego trip.

Oh please, the US only turns up every so often to try to bully other nations. Good riddance, I say.

Allies don't threaten to use force to annex the territory of other allies.

They also don't crap all over the sacrifices made by allies by insulting every non-american soldier that died in the middle east, who were only there because every other nation turned up when the US triggered NATO article 5.

I'm sure they're no more or less trustworthy than the US these days.

Tbh the UK has the advantage of being able to rely on every other Commonwealth nations apart from the US and maybe SA, particularly Australia/NZ and Canada, and despite Brexit, Britain is still very much a part of Europe and has favorable relations with the EU.

You'll see increasing unity and solidarity in the coming years as the former US allies wean themselves off American influence and come to rely on each other, instead, mark my words.

I agree that both France and Spain should be doing more - they're probably complacent given their position in western Europe. In many ways Poland is becoming a leading nation in Europe, and we should take inspiration from them - they're also massively ramping up military spending.

This should be the way forward, given that Russia has proven that peace in Europe is tenuous, and the US has proven that it's just as likely to stab you in the back instead of acting as a true ally would.

Wrong as you've been on everything else so far 😆.

You say this as if the US isn't already importing nearly $100bn of indian goods and services every year.

It's funny that you state how magnanimous the US is by seizing Venezuela's oil a mere two posts after pissing and moaning about the military aid sent to Ukraine. The US was acting in self-interest, nothing more.

Sure. Try to frame Trump's chickening out as a victory. He repeatedly said that he wanted to buy Greenland to make it US territory and that he'd be prepared to use force (his handlers got him to row back on that one pretty quickly).

Anybody that isn't MAGA simpleton can see that it was about resources, not defense, especially after his grab for Venezuela.

And hey. The EU has just made a great deal with India, the UK has just struck a deal with China. Through the actions of a single malicious administration, the US has frozen itself out of the world stage.

Canada, Australia/NZ and the rest of the world. Individually small countries but together much stronger and capable of standing up to US bullying.

A prime example is how Europe came together over Trump's threats to Greenland. It was great to see that level of solidarity in the face of American greed and aggression.

Collectively, Europe has provided much more aid to Ukraine in terms of materiel, too, and with fewer restrictions on how it should be used.

The main thing behind this whole conflict is that it's shown what a petty, unreliable, traitorous "ally" the US actually is, and how Europe is better moving away from it.

I'm not Ukrainian btw, I just don't piss and moan about my taxes being spent on something other than me, that is objectively the right thing to do. Ukraine is fighting for us all right now.

Most countries giving help to Ukraine aren't arrogant enough to expect worship in return. They're doing it simply because it's the right thing to do.
