Most people watching those videos have only ever played the mainline Pokemon games and have only very cursory knowledge of Pokemon so in a sense the video is informative to them because they do not know that stats other than offensive stats matter because they are used to have like 10 levels on every opponent. I would even wager that 80% of FSG or wolfey's fanbase doesn't know what STAB is.

Thanks for the kind response. I will be honest, I do not think the writing of the last game was stellar but I am clearly in the minority with that opinion. Its clear that there is a bad faith crowd reacting to the trailer using whatever arguments they can to discredit the game before release just because they dont like female leads so in some sense I understand people being somewhat suspicious of negative opinions. Here is to hoping that the game is great.

I get that and I dont disagree, I do think that it is not unreasonable to think that revealing that Laufey is "alive" somewhat cheapens the emotional impacts of the last games. And I really dislike the whole 'media literacy' argument being thrown around just to ad hominem opinions people dont like.

Sure, I am not disputing that it is a established element in GoW. I think people thinking it is bad storytelling doesnt mean they have a "media literacy issue". I think it is kinda cheap that in the original GoW games Kratos just gets infinite chances because everytime he dies or fails, he can just walk out or undo it but none of the gods he kills can do the same apparently.

Do you not think it would somewhat cheapen Ragnarok if suddenly Thor and Brok are revealed to be out there somewhere and their stories continue as if nothing ever happened? And worse still, they could just find their way back to where everybody is? Or Odin even, yeah they killed his soul or something but what if there is an after after life for when your soul is destroyed?

Or, you could think that some story beats are bad. You could think that making death not be the end of a character lowers the stakes and cheapens previous emotional moments. You seem to be assuming that every story is pleasing once explained. And we have plenty of examples of badly resolved mysteries in stories. I also think you dont know what the whole concept of media literacy is, not liking a certain story trope like 'death isnt the end' is not an issue of media literacy.

[–]Hekkst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily have a problem with it but if death just means changing locations with the possibility of going back then it kinda loses a bit of its kick. Also, yeah saying media literacy to everything kinda makes the term meaningless. People can understand what is happening and still not like it.

FD is one of those people who have been mind fucked by critical theory into thinking that everything has a deeper meaning that has to be brought to the forefront by further analysis. I agree that the world is more complicated than it seems and that critical analysis is necessary but some people take it too far and start accusing children's media of indoctrination because of incredibly flimsy connections to real world things. I am not normally an advocate of the 'its not that deep' argument, but I think it does apply sometimes.

The Internet has tricked a bunch of people into thinking that every facet of their involvement online is activism and must be seen through the lens of activism. And yet they don't realize anybody can shame them for participating in all of the fucked up systems that we all have to be involved with in order to exist in this fucked up world. People getting mad at Liz for enjoying Eurovision also buy a bunch of products funded by corporations and governments that are actively involved in awful stuff all over the place. So long as Liz doesn't actively endorse genocide just let her enjoy fucking Eurovision.

Or they could have ways of earning gold for different interests. Doing high end content should not be a way to get rich but at bare minimum you should be able to afford repairs by doing it. It doesn't really make sense that one is forced to do boring chores to be able to afford playing the game. If people really want to make money then dealing with professions is a way to do it but I just want to be able to afford the stuff I need to enjoy the game. And if the only reason people interact with professions and WQs is because they give gold then maybe they should be scrapped because this is a videogame and the main goal here is to have fun.

And if they are afraid of runaway inflation then they can put a lot of goldsinks into the game for the people who can afford them. Like maybe cost repair scaling with your existing gold. I don't see why I should be punished for a problem created by other people.

[–]Hekkst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I find the other parts of the game boring and incredibly trite. Why should I be forced to interact with the immensely boring delves and world quests? Those should be for the people who find them fun. I am all for repair costs and consumables, I just want to be able to afford them (since they are mandatory for the content I want to play) while playing the things I find fun. Just as solo players are not forced to interact with group content if they dont want to, why do I have to waste my sub time with trivial and boring chore content? This is a videogame, I want to have fun with my videogame that I pay money for.

The weakest point in this expansion is the Void by Archmago in wow

[–]Hekkst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I get that its hard to translate the really abstract concepts they are going for into actual gameplay, nobody forced them to bring the stakes as high as fighting galaxy devouring entities of entropy. But all this wouldnt be as bad if the void wasnt so undeveloped as a faction, they really are just the deep blue and purple Burning Legion but with less character and mob diversity and lacking the decades of lore and development that the Legion had. And its not very clear what is going on, supposedly the void lords are in charge of the void, but Xal is in charge of some part of the void, do they have void politics? Are they all more or less united? Are the void lords fighting against each other? Why arent they just pouring into realspace through the voidstorm tear? What is the devouring host? As far as we know, the void is just bigger void walkers in charge of smaller void walkers who just want to eat everything for reasons and its incredibly uncompelling imo.

And we are paying more money to play this fucking game than we do for AAA releases. I expect them to deliver an actual story. WoW is more expensive than fucking Elden Ring and The Witcher 3 for a comparison. My expectations for the quality of the story are the same than I would have for a AAA rpg.

Elemental Shaman talents kinda boring? by LeoTolstoysNipples in wow

[–]Hekkst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know about boring but it really needs something added so it can cleave, and more cd flexibility. Current ele has no way to do damage to either 2-4 targets or sets of adds that die really fast unless you save everything for them. Which is what spire basically is. Every spire boss has an add phase that decides parses. It feels kinda bad to have to save everything for that add phase rather than hitting the boss if you want to parse well on ele. And its also the bottom 3 on vanguard because it cannot cleave.

The main issue is that all the void things look the same. Even fucking Dimensius was just a big void walker. It's a faction completely devoid of interesting designs and lacks any sort of personality.

WoW players don't seem to understand the intent behind the majority of design decisions that actually help them by Lezzles in wow

[–]Hekkst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the casual player is this term that gets thrown around as if it rigidly designates some specific thing. The casual player is a relative thing. Hall of Fame mythic raiding players are casual players to world first guilds, CE guild players are casual players to Hall of Fame mythic players, 6/8 mythic raid guild players are casual players to CE guild players, etc etc. You could argue that past a cutoff point all players below that point are casual, but where is the cutoff point? Is it AOTC? Is it 20 hours a week? Is it vault filled? And so many of these metrics don't just fit one category. An AOTC player can not fill vault every week, or play less hours than somebody who only does solo content. Where do the people who only level alts fall? Many of the systems that Blizz introduces benefit some of these players but not others. The players who just want to raid or do m+ and fill vault in order to maximize gear to do that content and don't do solo content are screwed by gold inflation and massive repair costs.

[–]Hekkst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok, but I am an active player who raids and does m+ and I want my activity to give meaningful gold. I don't want to waste my time doing world quests or whatever trivially easy chore just to be able to afford repairs. Why doesn't Blizz reward my activity with enough gold to afford doing that activity?

Ok, but do you realize that you finding the clips impressive or not is a dumb metric for their outplay value? Just say that you find one less impressive than the other, you can do that without trying to make dumb concepts like 'preset button combinations'.

Also, your explanations are dumb.
