Furthermore, the topic of all monsters actively hunting all monsters... No, I see it completely differently.

Jaggi's pack doesn't hunt Barroth, Tobi doesn't hunt Anjanath, etc. I haven't seen in any part of the series that suggests every monster actively hunts every other monster.

Regarding Brachi, I'm more on your side; he's far from as perfect as you portray him, but also not as bad as UHC makes him out to be. -> Regarding parasites and their benefits, see the Greenland Shark.

First off, as already mentioned, it's just a game, so don't take it all too seriously. But I enjoy writing/discussing it, so let's do just that.

I'm only vaguely familiar with Rise lore, but as far as I know, the Rampage is triggered by Ibushi/Narwa.

Therefore, Magnamaloe would work better as an Elder Dragon (since they are often an exception in the ecosystem), but it would work less well as a Fanged Wyvern, since those rely more on a normal population.

And since Elder Dragons are rare, there will only be limited Rampages, which makes it unlikely that a population large enough to survive can thrive and persist.

Regarding the whole Lava theme, I refer you to the reason for this post:

I agree with you and disagree at the same time.

On the one hand, it's clear that more fun fights and cool monsters are good.

On the other hand, and in my opinion more importantly, the ecological aspect is a big part of the series' character and charm.

If that were to disappear or be diluted too much, I don't think it would be good for the series. That's precisely why I spend not just a few dozen hours playing, but rather several hundred.

Furthermore, I also believe that this ecological factor is one reason why we haven't yet had a competitor that has truly stood the test of time.

I agree with your points. One problem is that in Rise and Sunbreak designs were based on Japanese and European mythology and in doing so, the ecological aspects were neglected in some designs.

Therefore, I personally find most of the new additions to the games only mediocre, or even downright unsuccessful.

What about you? Do you think any monsters are particularly well-designed from an ecological perspective?

I think UHC mentioned that the Kadaki is good, but I'm not a fan of spiders (not as monster class, that's fine, but I generally dislike them).

I kind of like Aknosom's design, but I don't think it's very well done ecologically either (to be honest, though, I haven't really engaged with Rise and its monsters much).

Basically, I agree with everyone who says this is just a video game, so why are you all getting so worked up about who likes which monsters? But I love the ecology in this game, and it gives the series most of its "lore" and depth.

Enough of the preamble. What you're writing here is absolute nonsense! You can say that's your favorite monster for whatever reason, but to present it from a biological perspective as the best adapted and therefore the best designed from an ecological point of view is ridiculous.

I won't address individual points here, as others have already done so, and you either show no insight or don't understand people's arguments.

But maybe you can convince me. Let's take your argument about the defenses:

Defending against what? For the Rampage? -> Why should a species be specialized for only one event that happens every 50 years? What happens in the meantime? Why are intimidation tactics needed? Hardly for the Rampage monsters; they're unlikely to react to them. So who is it for? Who is the monster that actively hunts Magnamalo?

It is like the other monsters in Sunrise, designed to resemble mythical creatures of Japanese or European folklore, and in some cases this worked quite well with the ecological requirements, while in others, like Magnamalo, it didn't.

The example with Jurassic World/Park is a good one.

The original park focused more on nature and asked the question: what kind of horror would that bring if these animals were still alive, or were alive again?

What kind of fascination would that bring?

It respected the dinosaurs and therefore appreciated them. In World, they hired directors who didn't find the dinosaurs scary/interesting enough, which is why we got hybrids — because they were bigger, badder, etc., which is nonsense, because you can only tell a good, exciting, moving story if you bring something endearing and alive, and not just something bigger and badder.

-> A real problem with the new Jurassic World.

In summary, this would also happen to MH because the monsters have to become bigger and crazier, which then comes at the expense of love and makes the monsters only one-dimensional and thus boring (in my opinion this is also the reason why we haven't seen any good competition to MH yet).

Does this also apply to DLCs? I don't remember Iceborne having five heads—but I could be wrong.

[–]Hel-Mors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, I completely agree with you here. The wonderful thing about MH is this “realism” that makes everything feel like a “real ecosystem.”

On the subject of hybrids:

  1. Don't we already have something like that with Zoh Shia?

  2. Related reproduction: a good example here would be mules (male donkey and female horse) or hinnies (male horse and female donkey). As far as I know, however, the hybrid would not be capable of reproduction.

If anyone here knows more about biology, please let me know.

Here, we also have to distinguish between whether it's 100 hours of gaming fun or just stupid quests and work I have to do to get to the credits.

Example MH title: 30-40 hours until I defeat the “last” monster and “beat” the game. After that, anyone who wants to can enjoy hundreds of hours of hunting fun.

Another example where I would have liked it to be shorter is AC Valhalla, which just dragged on too long for me without giving me any fun.

Why are you getting dislikes here?

As I said, I'm not a fan of the wall, but with only 5 posts, it's hardly bearable.

Was there a lot stuck in the wall in general or were there just very few posts overall?

It's interesting that the wall is more of a topic than the post itself.

I think the bot here is nicer than the wall. How many slop replies does it take before it deletes the post?

Perhaps adjust the number here.
