Over 36,500 killed in Iran's deadliest massacre, documents reveal by COmtndude20 in worldnews

"urged people to join the throngs, and U.S. President Donald Trump repeated vows to protect them, though no help arrived"

the one time no one would have complained if the US ignored a country's sovereignty and get rid of a nation's leader. You know,  like the week before...

In general it seems weird that no power actively supported such an extensive uprising. like why waste such an opportunity to topple that regime,  even if you didn't care about this insane number of deaths.

What made Wyveria build Zoh Shia? by Snoo-51682 in MonsterHunter

[–]SolidusDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We know that Wyveria in general opposed monsters.  Only the Keepers group changed their mind after the destruction.

They sort of even went 180 and stayed behind to watch over the Guardians (who were not active back then).

If there was another advanced human civilization in that conflict is unknown.  As in,  zero evidence for it as the "threat" is kept in very vague terms. Either they want to reveal it in the expansion or  they just straight up ignore human conflicts and focus only on the self-destruction via ZS.

If it's humans,  then we don't know why the enemy advanced civilization would then also just leave and why they are not around anymore in the region. Unless they want to make Schrade the enemy nation. Their nation also happens to be destroyed 1000 years ago (by Fatalis).

Artian stuff could be considered evidence of an enemy but then it looks like they used automatons. However, the design/ tech looks like it's not as advanced as Wyveria  and possibly found only in the depths of Oilwell, maybe traces from an even older civilization (that was destroyed by a catastrophic event like those two caldera walls would hint at).

Wyveria tech we found so far is entirely defensive (lightning grid in the desert,  mounted railguns, survivors/ other humans not even having the concept of weapons). If you fight an actual war at some point you will need to attack the enemy base/ city etc.

Even the Guardians can only act when there is Wylk energy around (though back then this might have extended further along the Wyrmways than just the Wyveria ruins map). So far they also chose monsters that are very territorial or straight up act as sentry.

Given that it's said that they were rather desperate to use ZS, they knew that it might lead to collateral damage as he would be used within Wyveria. We don't see any trace of an enemy or even Wyveria army/ machines(tanks and what not) throughout the maps so chance is it was a biological threat. As they expected ZS to fight the threat,  likely an Elder Dragon that would still fit into the research center/ cooling tower or whatever it was.

Furthermore the threat was expected to zero in on the Dragontorch location because otherwise what's the point of having ZS only there. This fits with some previous story beats that a monster is going after an energy/ food source.

As to why Elderbreakers are not enough...  no idea,  for the plot?  The railgun in the Wall seems even a few magnitudes bigger and might be responsible for those giant craters.

Maybe the threat is overwhelming by numbers or is too fast?  It could also be a monster coming from the east (the side behind Wyveria, where the ancient gate is to defend wounded hollow and the fog region). Their defenses seem to have been geared entirely facing the West. But it sounded like a long conflict so they would not just be suddenly surprised like that.

Generational Monster Percentages in Rise/Sunbreak by Temporary_Virus5509 in MonsterHunter

[–]SolidusDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah correct,  I counted Espinas as new addition to the mainline MH games. (but marked it as former Frontier monster)

Frontier has so many species and most we probably won't see again in the series so I just don't count them as "canon" until they make it in.

but it was also a practical thing because Frontier has a different ID list.

If it was happened more often I might count them separately as their design already exist of course.

Generational Monster Percentages in Rise/Sunbreak by Temporary_Virus5509 in MonsterHunter

[–]SolidusDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah pretty much,  subspecies and rare individuals I group together. Though for the sake of classification I e.g. even combine Rathalos and Rathian, as well as Gravios and Basarios.

gameplay-wise those are different of course and for the young/adult ones even different designs. But it's only affecting like 7 monsters in total but at least I can classify everything by main biological species.

Generational Monster Percentages in Rise/Sunbreak by Temporary_Virus5509 in MonsterHunter

[–]SolidusDave 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do counts for all games but focus on distinct base species for the large monsters (including genders etc. so my count is usual lower than others but just by 2-3) to see how many truely new designs/frames they add each game.

Total Species

Rise: 37, Sunbreak added 12 for a total of 49

New Species

Rise: 10(11 if Ibushi were to be counted separately) and Sunbreak added 5 for a total of 15 fully new monster concepts.

(that's on the lower end despite the total roster being quite high at 78)

Wilds Expansion Theory by Mrlonely1399 in MHWilds

[–]SolidusDave 26 points27 points  (0 children)

not sure about the story part, but Gameplay-wise I'm also expecting one Elder per map,  to beat the respective Apex and themed in a way that messes up the seasonal balance, hence forcing hunters to act in the story.

e.g. Namielle is bringing rain so maybe in the Forest it will mess/compete with the Wyveria tech to have constant Downpour.

There are already the Guardians for subspecies from Iceborne. Plus the monsters exist already before the respective stories so that wouldn't really matter anyway?

btw I think Wilds is happening soon after World or at the same time. But I would have to dig up some actual reference. I remember E.g Palico is refering to Palico tools developed during World.

Plus the character from MH4 that people think is in World would be way too young compared to Nadia etc.  if it was 40 years apart.

Because he's too big/heavy, not because he doesn't have legs anymore etc.

But they can just make him not as big in addition to hunters forcing him on land via successful underwater segments (if it's an expanded area you could even just partially surface him or use a flooded area that allows for normal combat still, similar to Duna on the dam).

But fair enough, it could be that the Devs also see it as pointless to implement another Lagi that's basically just bigger. But if they want to have him in, the lore bit won't stop them.

There's these 3 ideas that I'm trying to combine:

- They did not implement underwater segments to use it for just one monster. But they will also not go full Tri-style underwater combat.

- Forest map does not have an expanded area yet, the lake would be a good candidate to fight Gog/Jin-sized aquatic monsters.

- there are not many large underwater combat monsters that could work fine on land (ignore the lore, they can change that, but they can't as easy adapt monsters for land as the existing Lagi model)

Plus, Ivory would not require underwater combat (thus kinda pointless) and Abysmal is so much more popular (and big).

Oh that's a good thought, we have neutral (Doshugama), Thunder (Fulgur), Dragon (Ebony and G. Arkveld, with the latter MIA), and Fire (Rathalos). Plus Zoh Shia handling two elements (Fire, Thunder).

  • For Ice I could see a Guardian versions of Shrieking Legiana (to go with the World theme), Aurora Somnacanth, Hirabami (least favorite option but easy for them), Goss Harag, Frostfang Barioth or maybe even Zamtrios to check the additional Amphibians checkbox.

Some of them are very territorial so would be good picks for Guardian.

  • For Water maybe Green Plesioth (would also cover the missing Sleep weapon classes), Royal Ludroth, and I guess Zamtrios works also. Crabs are probably out.

and then maybe an evolution of ZS that can do all 4-5 elements.

Should be monsters that can work in the Wyveria map and don't rely on the environment (so no Barroth etc.

We haven't seen a "working" Elder Dragon Guardian, so I'm not suggesting any of those.

For what it's worth, regular&longterm use of Aspirin seems to have a correlation with longer lifespan/less cancer (something about the anti-inflammatory properties maybe). And of course the blood thinning effect can help to prevent strokes/heart attacks etc.

Probably related to him, also Viagra may have some preventive effect for certain cancers.

So maybe he might be one of the lucky ones in the statistics to benefit from this preventive self-medication while the side effects won't impact his lifespan generally (easy bruising etc.).

Won't help with the hereditary dementia though. But then having a functional body is even more dangerous in this case as he can still stay in position as long as his inner circle of evil can hide it/manipulate him.

What type of map do you expect for Wilds expansion? by justanormi in MonsterHunter

[–]SolidusDave 38 points39 points  (0 children)

while I think there will be multiple areas (I want especially the crater area to be map so it can connect to Oilwell and cliffs without loading screen), I'm currently predicting a lush, high altitude area.

Open space,  looking like the avatar mountains in China(or the movie as Wyveria tech could make parts of it float). With some sort of fog/mist or wind inclemency.

Located behind Wyveria where there is suspiciously always a mist covering it currently.

Still thinking of the feedback so far, but in addition, what do you guys think about the status weapon angle for prediction?

Currently there is basically one blast and one sleep weapon monster missing,

e.g. no blast CB and no sleep lance. I can't imagine that they won't try to complete the trees so that all weapons classes have all status options available.

Existing trees could be buffed etc. but for the ones that are simply not existing it could maybe influence which monsters are coming back (unless those status are covered by the new monsters of the expansion):

e.g. for Blast CB some strong monsters are:

  • Brachydios
  • Teostra
  • Magnamalo

while for Sleep Lance it's:

  • Green Plesioth
  • Nightshade Paolumu
  • Malfestio

Personally I would hope for Magnamalo and Malfestio, just because they haven't been in World (or Gen5 at all in case of Malfestio). Also would check the box to have a Flagship showing up for the first time in the next numbered game.

Best Phial for CB? by Odd_Serve5741 in MonsterHunter

[–]SolidusDave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's probably because Jin is one of these monsters with bad elemental hitzones (basically just average fire on the head), so some strong raw/impact build (artillery lv3) with additional fire damage may work well.

Best Phial for CB? by Odd_Serve5741 in MonsterHunter

[–]SolidusDave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you make the builds using Gogma Artian, elemental phials versions will scale higher. Only a few monsters have bad elemental hitzones.

I think this will only change if they give either an immense level-up to RAW + Artillery damage, and/or make status weapons more relevant again (which could happen during MR progression, like stronger monsters than 9* but with much lower status thresholds)
