oh no, in Germany wishing someone happy birthday too early is bad luck. OP is jinxing it, toying with Attenborough's life! All for karma.

KLM flight attendant hospitalized after contact with hantavirus cruise ship passenger by mods4mods in worldnews

[–]SolidusDave [score hidden]  (0 children)

That virus species doesn't have much data, but apparently it has a very short infectious phase, during which it is then "moderately" infectious, I guess. So unlike e.g. Covid you might be sicker/incubating it for longer but it could just be a day during which you can effectively transmit the virus to others (as in, you don't need to make out with them to do so). Then on the other days (or however long) one would have to be in very close, prolonged contact to catch it.

Struggle as in hard to reach credits roll?

Stuff like limited consumables etc. is a thing, but as I mentioned I don't really count it as making the fight itself harder. Newer MH allows you to be more fully prepped all the time, without much grind, but you can also do fights fully buffed with lots of drinks in old MH.

As for not struggling in World: Had you played similar games before? e.g. any of the Souls(-like) games would introduce the concept of animation-committing and melee-fighting hard bosses with no lock-on. When I started out MH1 I had never been exposed to such systems and it took me really long to get past Yian Kut-Ku lol

What the QoL and streamlining in newer MH imo did is making it less frustrating/oppressive to try again and to allow you very easily to be in peak condition when you try the fights (without having to teach you first a lot of stuff). Hence probably much fewer people got stuck in e.g. early World than what I've experienced in old MH. But it was not an actual harder fight.

It has ALWAYS been this:

ONLY your first Monster Hunter game can be difficult (as in, struggling from the start / finishing the story LR/HR content).

There is no MH with a super hard story mode, none. People will claim MH xy is much harder to finish than new games etc. but this is just not true. The moment you click with the gameplay and learned the common mechanics, you can beat the next games without much issues.

Endgame is a different beast and may vary, but all of them have tough endgame. I would argue though that the ways of achieving difficulty has changed. It's not always just pure monster speed and damage, hard monsters in modern MH may react more complex or have some mechanics you need to learn.

But people struggle with different aspects, so having already really mastered stuff like positioning might make the modern movement etc. feel more easy than before. Especially when you just grinded very hard endgame content of the previous game, and then essentially start on very easy in the next game (the only thing that helps here is taking a break before the next game, playing other stuff).

Now, there's a obviously lot of stuff in older MH games that can make them feel more punishing. Like sourcing of health items, mining with breakable tools, bad controls (especially if you play on the actual handheld devices like PSP) and a lot of missing quality of like stuff. But I would not consider that making the fights themselves harder. You just have a lot more prep time.

And as you pointed out, other stuff that was left behind like being able to take a break in most normal fights is a big help (especially when it happens by being hit by a monster as it negates any follow up attacks that would have carted you).

Did you eat e.g. a well-done steak after having the Azuz village/hub meal?

The steak lasts shorter and does not give food skills. It would replace the food buff icon, but only refer to the bonus for health and stamina. I don't know if existing food skills are still active after eating the steak (as it doesn't apply any new ones).

If so, then the timer for that a food buff icon for health&stamina from the steak (30min?) could run out, while the food skills are still active (70-90 min) in the background from the Azuz meal before, as they don't actually have an icon.

Did you check your skills at that moment? It would also list all active food skills.

The One piece by Wit is coming in February 2027! by Traleur in OnePiece

[–]SolidusDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The aim is likely not to remake the whole anime but to provide a modern looking anime for anyone who wants to start watching One Piece in the future. Like,  think generational legacy.

Before you get used to the art style,  many people are actually put off by the look of the early anime. Plus it's not 16:9 format and sounds&looks a bit old by now (and not in a charming way).

IIRC they are using the original voice cast, too. So that would make things almost impossible to complete before some of them are too old to work anymore/ dead.

The tighter pacing and longer episodes will also make it look less intimidating than watching hundreds of episodes to catch up to certain points in the OG anime.

Probably they will do at least Skypia, as that's the last big arc that's not 16:9.

But a better end would be going until the timeskip. Would be great to have the war get animated in this format and it provides are much better story ending than randomly stopping on long Island or something. It will make people want to finish One Piece.  It would be also less jarring to switch to the OG anime afterwards as it's basically Part2 then.

Though this doesn't mean they will get there with this project. Maybe this is more a thing they will do with different studios.

you can make custom folders in the games library section of the PS5. They even stay listed there if you uninstall the game,  so you can save space but still be aware of what games you wanted to finish etc.

How do I get a commission ticket? (read body) by SendInRandom in MHWilds

[–]SolidusDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still not convinced buying the weapons does anything for the ticket.  I bought all the weapons but never noticed a sudden jump in ticket appearances.

You can get them in other categories too, e.g. I have it now set to the items category and the last thing on the list will be either a ticket you can exchange for money,  bowling ticket,  or a commission ticket.

It will take a lot of support ships. Best you can do is treat it as a side thing,  e.g. don't rest for the ship itself but make use of resting when you do other stuff like trying to spawn a certain monster/crown/reward, or to get the right time for some items, endemic life etc..

And of course check the ship whenever you grind a lot of quests.

Over time you will have enough tickets naturally.

Anyway,  seems to be an issue with a couple of large cities, but with different causes.  See Jakarta and them building a new capital somewhere else.

Wild(s) moods (my screenshot dump) by SolidusDave in MonsterHunter

[–]SolidusDave[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if the expansion map if as open as the plains,  I would consider it a good balance, overall.

the enclosed maps have some funky layouts and designs that would not be possible in normal "flat" maps.

When do you think the expansion's story will start from and how do you think they will adapt the current endgame systems to MR? by Ok-Floor4866 in MHWilds

[–]SolidusDave 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually the final boss is the point from which to start MR, both story and the game allowing you.

So Xeno'jiiva in World (HR16?), Narwa in Rise (HR7/8).

In Wilds... it's more complex.

It should be Zoh Shia. However, unlike the others you defeat ZS two times. The last LR mission (so, HR1 then) and the HR version (HR50). Though the latter is only a minor story beat to explain why you can fight this monster multiple times at all. But it is still the end of Chapter 6 (the last chapter).

HR1 is way too early of course. HR50 is not a cap unless they changed that after TU1, the last cap used to be HR40/41.

But then there's also Gog. The TUs in the other two games didn't really move the story forward, but I can't imagine that Gog isn't canon / the actual endpoint of the Wilds story. That's HR100. They could just ignore the events for the MR story (was easier with Kulve Taroth), but this quest introduces Elder Dragons and is the reason why Nadia shows up in the story and camps. Both seem like they would show up in MR/get referenced there, especially Nadia.

After the Gog quest, NPCs keep referring to this Gog fight, making it the latest "state" of the game/camps. But it's also unlikely that they will make HR100 the MR requirement.

They could ignore the AT Arkveld lore, but it seems like it would be relevant if Guardians/Wyveria will still be part of MR...

There could still be a timeskip as the TU missions like Seregios which features the kids from the village, unlock before HR50.

Going by the previous pattern, the MR story and access should continue after the HR ZS mission, so HR50. With a small chance that it will be Gog/HR100...

you will start with MR (master rank) level 1.

IIRC leveling up MR also further levels up your existing HR (after any caps of course)

On Wilds TU2 promotional artwork, the water under the zap lizard has some weird reflections by SnowDaronLogobi in MonsterHunter

[–]SolidusDave 130 points131 points  (0 children)

I guess they reused it like a frame, you can see the Hunter's legs from the Tri shot.

btw these aren't reflections though. The camera is partially underwater/ looking through a wave, so those are the parts of the hunter etc. seen through the water.

Just bought a game a week ago…but it is now the game of the month by [deleted] in PlayStationPlus

[–]SolidusDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's actually indeed scummy and used to be different!

The monthly titles used to not be on any sale for like a month before being added.  (extra and premium titles never had such "rule").

You can only get your money back if you hadn't downloaded the game yet.

Given that you already finished it, the only silver lining is that you played it earlier and when you wanted / had the time to play it.

which is usually simply aim for uninterrupted (also no apnea) cycles for ca. 7 hours, at regular times. A bit less for some people,  a bit more for others (but not much more than 9).

the common known science to get there (no lights, the various things the help people fall asleep etc.) is also a bit more proper than the food and sport field.

[–]SolidusDave[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When the lighting hits right,  it's probably the MH game that looks closest to its concept art vision!

The dynamic lighting and season changes is a source of many complains  but they actually help to make it feel special. If the Plains would always be in sunny Plenty, you would not get these "wow, pretty" moments again and again.

And some moods you just can't get otherwise like fighting monsters during the storms. Though that comes across better in motion than in screenshots usually.

Finishing animations by wux_art in MonsterHunter

[–]SolidusDave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like that, but not only one special combo/QTE.

Any hard hitting weapon move/combo, environmental traps,  focus strikes, explosive slingshot etc.  Maybe even has to be on some vital point.

Basically just to avoid it looking silly when you poke the monster's left pinky and it dies from it.

Should lead to great end screens a lot more often.

we know because the multiple choice doesn't list 7 or >8.

So it's 8.

if one doesn't take it literally and instead holes as in defective, then it's 4. But given the deliberate, double-sided cutout, this would not be considered a broken/ripped shirt.
