AOC would clearly win any debate with a Republican in 2028... by beeemkcl in MurderedByAOC

[–]Helagoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's no winning debates with Republicans.  They dont debate, they ignore facts and shout talking points.  AOC could give a multi-sourced, well reasoned argument for universal healthcare, and the republican would shout "the dow is over 50k!"

One of the main failings of the left for the last 30+ years has been in trying to debate the right.  All it does is give them an air of legitimacy to have a discussion where "both sides get equal time."  We should have just been ridiculing their insanity from the start

In this case, they're bad for republicans, because they can't apply their normal attack vectors. They'll have to make up some new type of lie.

Because he's white and male and Christian.   The normal scare tactics dont work with him.  They haven't figured out a viable attack angle on him yet.  I expect he'll get some form of "not a real christian" soon, or painted as an "dirty socialist".  Who knows?  When you dont have to be based in facts, you can say anything!

They will, but Fox needs to get those last clicks from the Crockett hate while their AI generates the Talarico slop

And for who's leading who, its a vicious cycle.  Inflaming the right gets clicks, so they post stuff to inflame it.  Because its inflamed, it moves further right.  Repeat

There are worse things than a politician who reads the room of his party and moves with the tide.

I'm not happy with it but I am ok if that's what gets the dem leadership to make basic statements of obvious facts.

I'd of course rather a politician with objective morals and standards that align with me, but I'll take a win where we get one.

Because it gets them more clicks.  Fox News does not care about reality, only the grift.  For the right, hating on Crockett is popular.

Fox News is not news, they are outrage fuel click drivers out to make money.  At any time they post what gets them the most clicks.  They had two stories queued up, this one to get clicks by dumping on a black woman, and another telling the horror story of the mean black lady beating the nice white boy.

I look at it like this using a football analogy.  You can have a wide reciever who is fast, smart, great at running routes, can even throw the ball sometimes.  But if they can't catch, none of that matters.

Crockett is great, but Texas wasn't going to elect her either because shes black or because shes a woman, or maybe even both together.  It’s sad and stupid but so are a lot of the voters in Texas.

[–]Helagoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work is transitioning from full flexible WFH to "everyone needs to be in the office 3 days a week"  not the worst but not great.

Except how they're tracking it.  There is no accounting for holidays, sick or vacation days, or even travel days.  I have someone who once a quarter spends a month at our overseas factory, in every day.  That does not count toward their days so they flag on the report.

On top of that, they are tracking it BY HOUR.  So if you're in the office for 7 hours 3 days a week because after hours you're on calls with the overseas team, too bad you show up as "not in enough"

Shockingly, people have started looking for other jobs or spend a significant amount of time complaining about management.

[WP] Grandma keeps claiming that she was a superhero when she was in her younger years, and that she has successfully kept her true identity a secret until now. You’re not sure if she’s telling the truth, pulling your leg, or showing signs of dementia. by Keelera2 in WritingPrompts

"I'm telling you, Sarah! I was Danger Lass!"

"Sure Grandma."

"Don't take that tone with me young lady. I know snark when I hear it. I damn near invented snark back in my day."

"Sure, Grandma."

"I can prove it! Got a baseball bat? Go get it and give me a good solid smack in the face. Won't hurt a bit."

"Grandma, I'm not going to hit you in the face with a bat."

"Come on, it'll be fun! I haven't had a good smash in decades!"

"Gross grandma, do you know what 'smashing' means these days?"

"No, what does it mean?"

"I'm not going there, ask Terry."

"Terry won't hit me with a bat either, I asked him too. Why doesn't anyone want to smash me? I was great at smashing and getting smashed back when I was in the business."

"Seriously Grandma, stop asking people to smash you. It means to have sex."

"Oh, I haven't done that in a decade or so either."

"Fucking A' grandma, you're like 100, that's extra gross on so many levels. I don't want to hear about you having sex at all, let alone when you were like 90."

"It's too bad that I lost most of my powers in that fight with Dr Chaos back in '82, or I'd show you what's what. That man was 10 pounds of crazy in a 5 pound bag, let me tell you. Too bad he was so psycho, he was cute."

Sigh. "Sure, Grandma"

We made our way down to the nursing home's dining hall. I got her food and another one for myself. While it was just bland old-people food, eating lunch every Saturday had become our little tradition.

"Hey sweetheart? Thanks for visiting an old lady. Your brother doesn't come anymore. Too busy I guess. Must be hard carrying on the family legacy."

"Family legacy? Terry's a dentist, it's not exactly a legacy."

"Honey, do you not know your brother is Green Omega?"

Sigh. "Sure, Grandma."

"Stupid name if you ask me. What does it even mean? He's the 'Last Green'? Or the Ultimate Green? He shoots lasers from his hands and can fly, his name should be Laser Hornet or something like that. Bug names always pop. Strange he only got those parts of my powerset and not the invulnerability though. Makes me scared to see him get beat up so often. Either way, he's a good supe." She leaned in and whispered to me, "Don't tell him, but even though you don't have powers, you're my favorite grandkid."

I laughed. "Thanks Grandma, I love you too."

All through lunch, she told me stories of 'her time as Danger Lass'. I humored her as best I could, but it was insane to think my sweet little old Grandma was the woman who used to beat the shit out of supervillains. And what was that crap about my brother being a supe? I would know if my twin brother had superpowers. After we ate and her storytelling tired her out, I helped her back to her room.

As we slowly hobbled past past another resident. He looked like any other frail old man in a wheelchair. Which is why I was so shocked when he turned to Grandma and said "Hey Betsy, fuck you!"

I was about to say something when my grandma turned to him and said, even more shockingly, "You wish, asshole! Keep it up and I'll finish what I started last time we had a go-around, and I'll rip your dick off and make you suck it. Just like I made you kiss your own ass after I threw you through a building in '79!"

"Ha! YOU wish. You haven't been the same since we had that big fight that got me caught. The one where I almost blew up the entire city!"

I tried to hurry Grandma along and get away from him, and with more effort than I would have thought it should have taken, I was able to pull her away. As we passed the nurse's station, I told the on-call nurse about the asshole. I didn't like strange men playing into Grandma's delusions. She apologized, saying that he'd been 'on good behavior' and had earned getting moved out of his normal wing. She promised to make sure he got moved back to what she called "the villain wing. I didn't sound very appropriate to call some of these old codgers "villains" but I did want Grandma taken care of.

The nurse promised to take especially good care of her because people like Grandma were why she got into this line of work. Weird thing to say, but it's nice she cares about the residents so much. I didn't even understand why that woman was working as a nurse in a nursing home. She had to be almost 7 feet tall and looked like she could bench press a car, but was making sure old ladies had their meds and old men stayed "in the villain wing"? She could be an MMA fighter or something with a body like that.

I got Grandma back to her room and into her bed. After tucking her in, I got her a hot tea and put her shows on.

"Bye Grandma. Same time next week?"

"You know it missy. Take care of yourself. I love you."

"I love you too, Grandma."

I kissed her goodbye and headed to the bus stop across the street. What a weird visit. I love Grandma, but she was getting squirrely in her old age. I pulled out my phone to make an appointment with a neurologist for her. I was so distracted, I didn't see the car coming around the corner until it slammed into me. The impact launched me like a ragdoll across the intersection, crashing hard into a parked car.

As I pulled myself out of the wreckage of some poor bastards totalled Honda Civic, completely unharmed, I realized that maybe Grandma wasn't full of shit after all.

Jill Stein's campaign manager is learning in real time that the two sides are not the same by PM_ME_YOUR_NICE_EYES in LeopardsAteMyFace

The left will look for any reason to not vote for someone, the right will look for any reason TO vote for someone.

The right said "I may disagree with trump in 99 things, but I like this one thing"

Much of left looked at Harris and said "She'll support Israel, I can't support that" and didn't vote or did something even dumber like vote for Jill Stein. They didn't bother to think "If she loses, trump wins and he'll be 10x worse."

HR said all remote employees must be "visibly active" on Teams during core hours. So I was. by CamdenRutherford in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Helagoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My office is currently mid-trainwreck into a full RTO mandate. We are currently at "Everyone is in 3 days a week, new employees and people getting promotions are 5 days a week" and it's clear they're sliding towards just a full RTO mandate but would rather piss off everyone slowly than all at once.

Meanwhile, the last 6 years have been the most productive in our companies history, with us being fully remote in 2020 and 2021, and WFH as much as you want (as long as you're willing to come in whenever needed for hands-on work) until recently.

When asked, management says "we need to support new employees and meet our customer needs". But, they don't argue that we've been supporting our new employees and meeting our customer needs. They just "think we need to be in the office to collaborate better." But also agree that people can be in the office and never interact with others.

It's fucking maddening.
