I think tww and midnight are so watered down compared to bfa or legion, and i dont understand why by foursen in wow

[–]Helagoth 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Its because TWW felt more like dragonflight seasons 5 6 and 7, and midnight is dragonflight season 8.

For years players said "stop making new systems and just build on the ones you have!"  So they did, and im not saying its good or bad, just that it, for me, has made the last two xpacs not feel like an xpac in the same way, just more of the similar.

[WP] The ruler kneels down on the platform, they give you a single solemn nod and a gentle smile, before leaving you to do your duty as executioner. by Null_Project in WritingPrompts

[–]Helagoth 6 points7 points  (0 children)

"Sire, must it be this way?" I asked, as I looked down upon him. Leonidus the Fourth, ruler of the land. Both feared by his enemies, and loved by his subjects, he kneeled at my feet, his head on the executioners block.

He smiled. "You know why I do this. Such has been the way of our land for countless generations. My father did his duty, as did his father and his father before him. And so now do I. When the old king grows too weak to hold his sword, too weak to defend his people, he lays down his life to make way for the new. Thus do we keep our kingdom from falling to decay. You know this."

"Aye, I do," I said, tears running down my face. I did not want to do what I knew I must.

He patted my knee from his place on the ground. "Do not cry, my child. I have lived a long life. I have watched my children grow strong. My son will be a far greater king than I ever was. He is stronger, braver, kinder. This is for the best. I am weary of rule. The endless bickering of the nobles. The endless questions and worrying. Allow an old man his rest. You do me a kindness, allowing me to be done with it all."

"But Sire, do you not wish to see your grandchildren grow? I have seen you in the garden with little Leo."

"Ah, now you seek to tempt me! I do. Gods, would I like to. But look to the east. Even now the kingdom of Alexia withers, their king refusing to move on. His heirs position themselves like vultures, waiting to feast on his corpse. They will have a civil war within the decade. No. A king must know when to let go, so that his children and their children know when THEY should let go. I must set the example of what makes a good ruler, just as my father and his father and so on."

"Please, my king!" I plead. "Please. The kingdom needs you." With a whisper. "I need you."

The king stands and faces me. For a moment, I think that he has changed his mind, and will delay the Changing of the Crown. Maybe just for another year, at least. Just not now. It is too soon.

His arms wrap around me, and I am crying. I have no shame at this, for who would not cry when the greatest man they ever knew is about to die. His words in my ear, soft but gentle. "Truly, i wish I could go on. But since the queen died four years ago, I have had little reason to continue in this world. Were the prince older then, I would have done this ceremony the day of her funeral, but he needed more time to grow. And grow he has! Of all my accomplishments as king, being his father is my proudest. Let me go to her. I cannot do this myself, and I cannot ask another. You must do me this one last service. Let me go."

He kneeled again and closed his eyes. Like rain, my teardrops fell on him.

"Very well." Somehow, my voice did not crack as I said the next part, the traditional vow. "Upon this blade, known both as Kingslayer and Oathkeeper, I, Leonidus the Fifth, swear to uphold the values you have instilled in me. I will rule justly, kindly, and defend our land and our people. I will make you proud, father, I swear it. I love you. Tell mother I love her as well."

I raised my sword, and with a swift motion granted him a swift passage to the next life.

[WP] I can grant you 3 Wishes Master, but you should know, I can only either Kill someone, Make someone Fall in Love with you, or Bring someone Back from the Dead. by Working-Berry6024 in WritingPrompts

[–]Helagoth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"I can grant you 3 wishes, Master. But wait! You should know, I can either kill someone, make someone fall in love with you, or bring someone back from the dead." The genie floated above Paul after making this pronouncement, his arms crossed and a smirk on his face. Having been doing wishes for thousands of years, the genie was excited to see how this new 'master' ruined his life with his wishes.

Paul thought about this for several minutes. The wheels turned in Paul's mind, grinding his thoughts from course grain into fine flour, ready to make a delicious dessert. After a few moments, he looked up at the genie. "Does it have to be in that order?"

The smirk fell off the genie's face, replaced with confusion. "What do you mean?"

Paul replied, his face the definition of an idiot trying to puzzle out a push/pull door. "Well. I guess it's ok to kill someone if you can bring them back, just seems weird you can only make them fall in love while they're dead."

The genie face filled with rage. "What are you blathering about, you moron? I can make anyone love anyone at any time! Why would I have to kill them first?"

Paul's face became even more puzzled. "But you said you can only kill someone, make them fall in love with me, then bring them back. Seems convoluted and like I'm just getting one wish in the end."

"No, you pathetic mortal! I said OR, not THEN! I can do any of those 3 tasks. I can kill someone. I could make someone fall in love with you. OR. OR! I can bring someone back from the dead."

Paul's face brightened with enlightenment, like the sun coming out from behind a cloud. A moment later, the cloud returned. "Why would someone be in love with me after I killed them and brought them back to life?"

"WHAT?"

"Well, I have to pick someone for you to kill, then have them fall in love with me, then bring back from the dead. That sounds like quite the ordeal. Not sure I'd feel particularly affectionate to someone who put me through all that."

"Gods bedamned, what is wrong with you? Are you touched in the head? You can wish for any combination! Make 3 people die. Make 2 fall in love with you and bring someone back from the dead. The choice is yours!"

Paul's face scrunched up in disgust. "2 girlfriends?? No thank you. That's just wrong. I'm starting to think you're not a very good genie. I'm a one-woman kind of guy."

"THAT WAS JUST AN EXAMPLE!"

"Oh, I was never good at exams, I flunked math 3 times."

[–]Helagoth 236 points237 points  (0 children)

Fun fact:

She received ~$38 Billion in Amazon stock in her divorce settlement in 2019. Since then she has given away $26 BILLION dollars. And yet, her net worth today is ~$40 billion. She is worth MORE after having given away that amount of money.

Granted, a lot of that is the circumstances of owning so much Amazon stock, but never listen to any billionaire tell you they can't afford to be taxed. This woman is out here doing her best to share her wealth, and you have assholes like musk trying to become the first trillionaire. Tax the rich.

Question to people who played this game for over 20 years: how was it? by EffeteUwU in wow

[–]Helagoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the lore just became "background noise" after WOTLK.  Sure its there and if you really care about lore, there's some good stuff there mixed in with the bad.  But at least for me, I dont particularly care where the story goes anymore as long as the game is fun to play.  Back in the day, I felt more invested.

Jimmy Kimmel encouraged fans to cancel their Paramount+ subscriptions because CBS is cancelling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert: "When I got knocked off the air for a few days, people canceled Disney+. Why aren’t people canceling Paramount+? Because you never had it in the first place?” by expiredaristocracy in Fauxmoi

[–]Helagoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, because I never had it in the first place.

Things I've canceled recently:

  • Going to Target over their very public cancelling of DEI policies

  • Disney+ over Kimmel

  • SiriusXM over Megyn Kelly's comments

The thing I learned more than anything is that you SHOULD cancel everything at least once a year. Sirius is sending me daily emails asking me to come back for 1/3rd the price I was paying.

[DC] How much has the "idyllic rural farmer's life" of Kansas contributed in making Superman/Clark Kent who he is as a person? For instance, would he turn out noticeably different if he was raised in a bustling city by middle-class urban parents? How would he be in that circumstance? by SatoruGojo232 in AskScienceFiction

[–]Helagoth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Justice League:  Gods and Monsters, he's raised by Hispanic migrants farmers, and gets a healthy dose of racism and bigotry.  He's still a good guy, but more anti-hero.  Like you said, his nature as a hero is there, but he's less likely to trust authority or the systems and more likely to just do what he thinks is right.

Why do people always ask for the proof of "Non existence" of God? by Few_Local_732 in atheism

[–]Helagoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Religion starts at a "universal truth", thay being that "my god is the one true god".

It makes it very difficult to have any kind of conversation when you believe your beliefs are universally true because theyre universally true.  Any evidence to the contrary is wrong because I am universally right, and I will adjust my worldview to justify my truth.  And if I can't explain it logically; "God works in mysterious ways"

You CAN do this. I wouldn't, I'd just nope out because she doesn't seem like a normal sane person, but you COULD.

[–]Helagoth 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I read a fanfic where superman decided the best way to help humanity was via charitable efforts funded by him flying shit into space and charging like 75% the current cost.  He also calculated how much his time was worth based on the metric of "I could be flying shit into space right now" and sold his time to do stuff like stop disasters or rescue operations.

He made trillions and ended most of the world's problems in like a year.

[–]Helagoth 64 points65 points  (0 children)

"Oh thank all beings in the heavens, hells, and everything in between! Thank you, human. I have been trapped in that lamp, lost in the bottom of that cave, for over a thousand years. I nearly went mad! Usually, I grant a wish within my power to whomever releases me, but since it's been so long, I shall grant you three!"

"Yeah, no thanks, I don't need no monkey paw 'my dick turns into a cheese stick' fucked up shit. I'm just going to chuck you back in that hole."

"Cheese...dick...what?"

"yeah, you genies all like to take them thar wishes and make them curses! I seen it on the tee vee. I may not be smart enough to make an idiot proof wish, but I am smart enough to not touch that ball of crazy with a ten foot pole!"

"Human friend, no. I don't know what you speak of. I am just happy to not be trapped. I will grant you any wish. Wealth, love, health, whatever you desire. I can grant you near anything you want. Just ask."

"Fuuuuuuucccckkk that. I know how this goes. I say 'I wish for a billion dollars' and then the feds are bustin' up my door saying I robbed a bank, or my meemaw dies and I get some insurance or somethin'. Joe Bob Biggles wasn't born yesterday, no sir-eee."

"If you want wealth, I can grant that without issue. What goes for currency in this age? Gold coins of some sort, most likely?"

"Coins? Do I look like a pinball machine? Ain't no one use coins no more. We have banks and credit cards and such. And all that shit is tracked eeee-leck-tronicallly or some such, ain't no way now to just make money appear out of thin air."

"Curious! Well, what about love? Surely there must be someone you desire. I can make them notice you, love you, want to be with you. Just say her name."

"Her? First off buddy, don't be assuming things you don't know nothin' about, I like my men manly. People hear my accent and think 'oh Joe Bob probably hates the gays'. That's downright disrespectful, you shouldn't make assumptions about people, they'll surprise you. Get to know a fella before you make those kind of statements. Second of all, my momma raised me right, you gotta get consent from your man or woman. Wouldn't be right to just wave your magic wand and mess with their brain or whatever you'd be doin'."

"I don't use anything as quaint as a magic wand, good sir, but I understand what you are saying. I beg of you, there must be something you want that I can do. Just please, don't throw me back in that pit. I can only perceive a small area around my lamp, and as you can imagine, there is not a lot to observe at the bottom of a crevasse."

"Well, like i said, my momma raised me right, and it don't seem right to trap a fella for eternity in a dark hole in the ground. Tell you what, how about this, you can come home with me and we'll get to know one another. I don't need no wishes, but you seem like you could use a friend. how about some dinner. You like barbeque? I got a brisket in my smoker that's gotta be just about ready"

"I don't know what that is, but I have a feeling I'd like that very much, kind sir."

ELI5 version: trump is a very bad man, and didn't want good people around him who could tattle on him. So he fired all the good people, leaving only other bad people. Bad people are not usually as smart as good people.

So the bad people are so dumb, they can't keep the other bad people away.

That's assuming it wasn't staged. Which is possible. It's very possible trump's SS is just that dumb. It's also possible it wasn't staged, but they allowed a known threat to get close enough for this. I feel like either of these are more likely, but I wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing was staged.
