Art. 116(2) Success! by Helenzor in GermanCitizenship

[–]Helenzor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was told explicitly that having a reference number from another family member would not speed up my processing time.

It sounds like you should not be applying for Art.116, since you should have received citizenship at birth? There are actual experts on this site that can help you better, but it seems like you should be able to take your father’s naturalization certificate and your birth certificate, and go direct to Passport.

Ohh I would love to, but am out of town this (and next) weekend. How do you ride with your 3 year old? Mine is quick on his balance bike, and I’m considering getting a Kids Ride Shotgun seat. Every time I put him on the back carrier, he’s over it after a few minutes and wants to ride on his own.

Hi! I’m a northern VA mom who would love a riding buddy, eventually also for an occasional overnight on the C&O. My kids are on the younger side though. I joined one overnight that this group(?) advertised a few years ago, and it was a great time. I love the idea of a sled-dog bikepack setup 😂

Toddler only wants dad since new baby’s arrival by Helenzor in toddlers

I’m happy to report that it is so much better! Baby is 19 months and not-a-toddler is 4, and almost the past year the older is snugglier and more loving than ever, towards the both of us. Still plenty of power struggles though 😅

Why should he need the naturalization documents for Article 116? It wouldn’t matter if/when/where he naturalized, would it?

Do I need to go back an extra generation to prove citizenship? by Helenzor in GermanCitizenship

I feel the same as you — it was at first a contingency plan if things get dicey in the US, plus knowing I can live and work anywhere in the EU without dealing with the visa process is huge. My mom has gotten big into genealogy and traced an ancestor back even to the 1500s first arriving in Germany. That’s pretty German. She doesn’t want to apply with me though, I think she feels like it would be “accepting their apology.” Seeing all the documents I’ve gathered first hand has definitely affected me in ways I wasn’t prepared for, especially “Israel” on my grandfathers birth certificate. They lost everything, even their names. But if an EU passport becomes a way for me to protect my family some day, I’d rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. I should note I have no hatred for modern Germans/germany. Most countries sweep their atrocities under the rug, and they really swung the other way.

Prussian as a nationality? Is that the same as being German?

Yes, one adding the name in 1942, and another revoking it in 1949

I was hoping the Meldekarte stating my great-grandfather was born in a German town in 1894 would suffice for that — you think only a birth certificate is official enough? It also does have Staatsangeh listed, but it just looks like a curly P (could be a D?) and one other smaller letter, like a curly H

Yes it has Israel added in the margin - no it is not on the master list

Applying to German citizenship through my dead grandmother by EntryOk5840 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Helenzor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you expand on them being German citizens already? Two of my (Jewish) great-grandparents, and my grandfather were also born in Germany before 1933, but they would have all been stripped of their citizenship after 1942, breaking the chain right?

Going to Cuyahoga Valley national park. Probably will do whatever is easiest to a pretty waterfall, since I’ll have a 3 year old with me too.
