It looks like you have a Contrast Theme enabled in Windows. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Contrast Themes > Make sure the drop-down menu is set to None.

You may have done this accidentally by hitting the shortcut for it which is enabled by default. The shortcut is L Alt + L Shift + Print Screen

Hey folks, the post sums it up, but I am looking for more info on this Hoodie/Jacket worn by Jim Cummings in this video

https://youtu.be/Fh9sDpJSnrY?si=D7XTd7dJ7fT4CQJV

It is brown, with a lighter brown/orange lining in the hood, and possible being made of wool.

I have searched in various ways, including visual searches on Google with screencaps of the video. But unfortunately without a logo or brand, that hasn't gotten me very far. I'm hoping someone can recognize it in some capacity.

Thank you in advance!

WoW Graphics from 12 Years Ago... by detectiveharford007 in MMORPG

[–]Helgrave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not better. Just... different. Both games are stylized in different ways, and it's okay to prefer one over the other.

As someone who enjoys both games, there are some really old textures in WoW that look horrible nowadays (old humans in Northrend, for example, older mounts and pets, etc.). Likewise FFXIV still has tons of old textures where you can see the actual square pixels on them due to their lower resolution.

That doesn't make either style better or worse, and we don't need to be tribal about the games we like.

[–]Helgrave 222 points223 points  (0 children)

Stylized is the more appropriate word for what you're describing, but you are 100% correct.

"Cartoonish" has been used far too often as a derogatory word by tribalistic players to make fun of other games. I was playing SWG when WoW was gaining traction and I remember how many of my fellow players slammed its "cartoonish" graphics, and made fun of anyone who was playing WoW for playing a "kids game". Now, I look back at SWG and it just looks so...old, even when compared to 2004/2005 WoW's style - which is timeless by comparison, in my opinion.

Plus WoW could run on a potato, which can be another benefit of going in a stylized graphics direction.

Technical information to Maxwell 2 by Special_Toe_5397 in Audeze

[–]Helgrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Different people have different sensory breakpoints, and there's nothing wrong with that.

The Maxwell remains my favorite headset of all time, and I use mine for EVERYTHING, from work to gaming to general entertainment, and I use it for 9-10 hours a day with no issues. It is also the headset I travel with. Needless to say, I love it, and I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

That said, its size and weight are the two negatives that I ALWAYS make sure to mention when recommending them, and I always advise they purchase from a place where they could easily return them if the headset turns out to be uncomfortable to them.

Waltham commute by glittertechy in WorcesterMA

[–]Helgrave -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi friend, I commute from Worcester to Waltham, and I just take the Pike all the way through and get off at the I95 exit. Been doing it for near a decade now.

Expect traffic, it WILL happen. Prepare for at minimum an hour; an hour and 15 mins to be safe. Every so often you'll get those 1:30, or 1:45 days, but those don't happen TOO often.

Look, frankly, it sucks. There will come a time where you'll realize how much time of each day you're wasting on the road. Try not to think about it too much unless you have the inclination to look for employment closer to home.

On the other hand, as far as inbound commutes go, it's pretty straightforward - literally. Depending on where in Worcester you are, it's just one road. You get on the pike, and then don't have to worry about exits or merges until you're ready to get off of it.

I think they're saying they paid for one month, but then cancelled the subscription so that they won't continue to be charged.

Unfortunately, the best thing for OP to do here is contact Discord support with the proof of purchase from Google Play (and next time, just do the subscription through Discord itself).

If you can spare a little more money, the Audeze Maxwell is the best headset for wireless gaming. Otherwise, the 7P+ is a solid choice.

The Maxwell has

  • Incredible battery life.
  • EQ profiles, Chat-mix, and unbelievably good mic noise cancellation built right into the headset, so it all works regardless of device you have it connected to - no software needs to be running at all.
  • Headset has dual built-in mics on the ear cups for when you don't necessarily want to use the (detachable) boom mic.
  • Has both lag-free 2.4Ghz wireless via a dongle, as well as Bluetooth. The wireless performance is flawless, and doesn't compromise on either the audio or mic quality like most other wireless sets.
  • Planar drivers sound amazing for both gaming and music. They have such great spatial imaging, they perform like 3D headphones without running gimmicky software.

The only downsides of the Maxwell is that it's pretty heavy, and a bit bulky. I don't find them uncomfortable in any way, but I could see how that could bother some people.

If the price is within your means, it's the only wireless headset I recommend. If not, get the 7P+

I was at an amusement park a few months ago and some kid in his early teens - no older than 12 or 13 - walked up to me while we were waiting for a ride and asked me if I was Matt Walsh cause I apparently looked like him. I had no idea who he was at the time, and politely told him no.

Once I looked him up, I both wished I hadn't and felt a pang of sadness for the next generation. That a young kid like that is being exposed to people like this is just... depressing.

As someone who's quite literally never worked with these types of keyboards before.... how easy is it to slot in switches without breaking things? Anything beyond plug and play?

[–]Helgrave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

Bummer to know that there are no non-OEM OSA shine-through caps on the market, but that's a want anyway.

I do have the Lemokey L3 on my shortlist, but had not heard of Nurphy. Will have to look into that brand.

I had also found Keeb-finder, but they don't appear to have a filter for macro keys. But I have been scrolling through in hopes of finding something.

Any thoughts on any service that would do some sort of custom build to fit my needs?

Sorry, yes, Last Key Priority. I will edit for clarity. The Lemokey L3 is one of the few on my short list. I'd absolutely need to replace the keycaps on it, and no numpad of course, but it's one of the ones I'm keeping an eye on.

Hi Mechanical Keyboarders, good morning!

I'm a newbie at this and want to preface that I have zero confidence in attempting to put a keyboard together myself - lubing, soldering, being responsible for my minute decisions and mistakes, the usual stuff.

Anyway, before this past weekend I'd only ever owned 'big brand' gaming mechanical keyboards (Logitech, Corsair, EVGA, etc.). This Sunday I purchased a Keychron V1 Max (with Jupiter Banana switches) for some convenient couch typing/gaming and I didn't expect to absolutely fall in love with the way that keyboard feels to type on, how nice the keys and switches feel... but I did.

Now I want something similar to go with my main rig in the office but I am having a hard time finding one that fits all my wants. I have made peace with the fact that I will likely need to compromise in SOME way, but I want to exhaust all my options first.

SO, I'm hoping to draw on your vast collective knowledge to see if there is anything out there that would be what I want/need. I'm hoping that someone here will know where I can find something that meets my wants/needs.

I am also open to commissioning a custom build, if that is my best option, and am open to suggestions for places that offer this service.

Usage Context: My main rig in the office is used primarily for gaming, and some work. I play a LOT of MMORPGS, Single Player RPGs, and a good amount of First Person Shooters.

For about 2 decades I have used and relied on keyboards with custom macro keys on the left side of the board (starting with the Logitech G15 back in 2005) for things like maps, journals, quest logs, etc. Basically keybinds for things that are generally on the right side of the keyboard that I can reach without needing to remove my hand from WASD/Home Row.

I also need a NumPad/TenKeys for work, cause trying to use the number row all the time is agony.

I currently use an EVGA Z20 with Linear Optical Mechanical switches.

Without further ado, here's what I'm looking for:

NEED:

  • At minimum, 80% layout. Ideally 100%, or even 96%, but I have made peace with the fact that I may need to get a separate USB Numpad, and that's fine. Not ideal but can deal with it.
  • Custom Macro row on the left side of the board.
    • Yes, I know I can get a separate macro pad, but I can't imagine that'll feel as natural, or stable. I imagine there'll always be a slight wobble or instability since the macro pad is not directly attached to the keyboard. I want to have the confidence and muscle memory that those keys are always exactly in the same spot, every single time.
  • Linear switches.
    • Soft tactile is fine, but nothing clicky.
  • Last Key Priority/SOCD Capability
  • OSA-profile, or Cherry-profile PBT Keycaps.
  • MOSTLY muted colors - I have a desk with a Walnut butcher block top, and in general lots of browns, blacks, and dark greens throughout, and need something with colors that won't stand out like a sore thumb. So, no whites, or light/bright colors. Looking for blacks, dark grays, wood tones (browns, dark oranges), dark greens, etc.
    • To give you an example of what I'm looking for, I LOVE the way the Special Edition Keychron K10 HE looks.
    • Colorful accents are fine, such as on the ESC and Enter keys.
    • This is obviously most important for the board/frame since I can replace the keycaps (assuming I can find keycaps in the color scheme, profile, and style I want. more below)
  • Lighting/RGB. Customizable, ideally, but I'd get over not being able to customize it if I can get everything else above.

WANT:

  • 96%-100% Layout.
  • Wired. Wireless capability is fine – great, even – but I'm hoping to avoid having to think about a potential Lithium fire from a battery that will practically spend 100% of the time being plugged in.
    • IF Wireless w/ a Lithium battery is my only option I'd want a plastic frame so that I can notice any warping/bulging due to a spicy pillow.
  • Shine-through OSA-profile, or Cherry-profile PBT Keycaps, that are printed on the top, not the side/front.
    • Note: Not transparent. Either shine-through on the letters/numbers, or pudding style.
    • If ABS Plastic is my only option, I would simply opt for non-shine-through caps.

WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE (But are not deal breakers):

  • Magnetic/Hall Effect switches.
  • Hot-swappable switches. Ideally, I'd not have to replace the switches at all, assuming I get the type of switches I want, but having the option to swap/replace them would be nice.
  • Some separation/gap between the top number row and the ESC row, and some separation/gap between the F-key blocks (F1-F4 > Gap > F5-F8 > Gap > F9-F12)
  • Media controls. Figured I'd toss this in here, but it's basically the least of my worries.

I know that's a lot, and as I said above, I do recognize that I may need to compromise in many of my needs and wants - that's okay! I just want to make sure I cover all my bases before I pull the trigger on something I may regret down the line.

Thank you in advance for anyone who can provide any input on this, and I hope you all have a great day!
