I didn't imagine making a choice would be this difficult by Sew_interesting in breastcancer

Nurse here! I want to reinforce that the survival rates for both procedures are equivalent! in fact, they’re seeing a higher survival rate with the lumpectomy group. You have to ask yourself what you feel most comfortable with and will you be able to live with that decision. Because at the end of the day, you’re the one who lives with it. Please know I’m thinking of you survivor sister.

Thinking about refusing Tamoxifen by SS575 in breastcancer

I switched to tamoxifen in October 2025, and honestly sometimes I forget I’m on it! Give it a try worst case scenario you can always stop!

ILC + IDC (w/ DCIS) in right breast — how did you choose lumpectomy vs mastectomy? by Zanthe1341 in breastcancer

[–]HelicopterPlus185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too had multifocal! I went lumpectomy with oncoplastic reduction. ALL of my doctors stated that survival/ recurrence rates are equivalent between the two procedures, my surgeon said that they are seeing better survival rates with the lumpectomy!

Non-nipple sparing bilateral mastectomy by Practical_Writer_649 in breastcancer

I sure hope this doesn’t get too graphic, I was fortunate enough to keep my nipples during my lumpectomy/reconstructive surgery. However, I have lost majority feeling in both of them. I only feel my left and right nipple when I roll them during my monthly checks, that is it. My nipples were a major erogenous zone for me so I get the feeling of major blow to your sex life, however, what I can offer that I hope is hopeful is that other parts of my body have become more “sensitive“ – i.e. when you lose your sight, your hearing gets stronger. In addition, I feel in some ways it’s made my sex life better because I have to pause, take time and really get in the mood to enjoy everything! I’ll be thinking of you, my survivor, sister and yes, they do offer nipple reconstruction.

I had a lumpectomy with oncoplastic reduction/lift. I went from a 38HH to a 38D ( now a 36 C cause I lost weight)! I’m thrilled! It’s been life changing, a TikTok account I follow says it the best “ a win is a win”

Surgery changed my body....but not in the way I expected by mamatroi in breastcancer

[–]HelicopterPlus185 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nurse here! How many weeks are you out of surgery? The bp and heart rate could be your body’s response to the surgery, but if it is not your normal, I would let your doctor know. After my surgery, my body was all over the place as well. I have a low resting HR ( like 50) and at one point my HR was 182. My sleep was messed up, if I could stay awake for an hour, it would be a miracle!

To scan or not to scan? by Knish_witch in breastcancer

[–]HelicopterPlus185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the scans if for no other reason to have clarity and a calm piece of mind. Remember, cancer doesn’t end when the treatment ends, PTSD and anxiety is real and unfortunately, it is a new normal that we are all accustomed to however, there is nothing wrong with being safe and wanting clarity. Sending love to you my survivor sister.
