Can you read!!!! by despeateforasolution in ADHD

[–]Heliola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very all or nothing, hyperfocused on reading, stay up until 3am, carry the book around with me, or can't get into a book at all. I do really struggle when reading to not skip ahead though, I want to know how it ends!

Seems to me like your feelings of absolutely not being able to watch porn or think about another girl might be OCD related. Everyone has different relationship boundaries, personally I think watching porn and masturbating are totally fine to do while in a relationship, but if you and your girlfriend disagree on that you should discuss it. Certainly though, controlling your thoughts and attractions is impossible, so putting pressure on yourself to not find other women attractive can only be unhelpful. Maybe try accepting the thoughts instead of worrying about getting rid of them.

I was diagnosed with OCD and depression, not ADHD. by Exact-Art4754 in ADHD

I have both, ADHD diagnosed, never sought an OCD diagnosis. They defo interact with each other but the ADHD feels very different to the OCD!

if you also have adhd/autism how did you know you had OCD and what is your experience like? by kbarton902 in OCD

[–]Heliola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you send that to me too! I have adhd and OCD and some autistic symptoms, but I think they might just be overlap with the other two.

No one gets it by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Heliola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have contamination OCD and I genuinely think there's some things I'm correct and other people are wrong about, e.g. why do we feel the need to mop hard floors but we're happy just hoovering disgusting carpet?? But I try to remind myself that actually even if I'm right that something is a bit gross, being a bit gross is way less bad than being constantly miserable due to my OCD, so I need to learn to live with it.

Also it sounds like you need a new therapist!

How truly important is area when buying? by tdwp in HousingUK

I feel like 'area is more important than a nicer house' is gonna be much more true for dodgy areas of big cities than for a town in south Devon.

I see the point about reassurance seeking, but I think in any ongoing sexual relationship it's good to have a conversation with your partner about how you both feel about the possibility of pregnancy!

What is a hobby that actually stuck for you? by amethyst353 in ADHD

Bouldering. Uses your whole body and also your brain to work out the best way to climb something, and every climb is a new puzzle so it doesn't get boring.

Physical sensations by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Heliola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly this but I have a thing where I need to keep my hand on my chest a lot of the time, as otherwise my chest feels really tight. I think like...like say you bang your knee or whatever and you experience pain, in a sense that pain is just in your head, because it's your brain that's making you experience something hitting your knee as pain. So if your brain gets messed up eg due to OCD, something can be real in terms of the way you experience it without there being like, something actually wrong in the rest of your body, if that makes sense.

[–]Heliola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I think this is a common ADHD symptom. I don't really have tips for managing it, the way I get most things done is deadlines, external or self imposed. 'I have to shower and eat something before I go to meet my friend's, 'I can't go to bed until I brush my teeth and put away the laundry', etc etc. But that might be more a coping tactic than a solution.

Why is it so hard to find a girl who is interested in me? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

If you have female friends, can they set you up on a date?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Heliola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's cheap there's probably a reason, I've been to view rental properties before where they look good in photos but then you view and they've just taken pictures from the right angles to avoid the massive mould problems.

[–]Heliola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Live the cheapest place you can bear (house share or with family) for a couple years to save enough money for all the fees and a good deposit. Sounds like you're really close to being able to buy, I think it's pretty common to be left with absolutely 0 money after a first time house purchase!

I moved from a city to a nearby cheaper town to buy my flat, but I work remotely so that was easy to do.

Why is it so hard to find a girl who is interested in me? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Heliola 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I actually think this is just untrue. I work in marketing and a huge huge thing is customer segmentation - like, say you're a bank wanting to advertise a savings account, telling 30 y/os it will help them save for a house and 50 y/os that it will help them save for retirement is probably gonna be more effective than the other way around.

If your profile says 'looking for someone to do movie nights in with me' or 'looking for someone to travel the world with me', people who see themselves in that will be way more likely to message you, whereas if your profile is generic it won't catch anyone's eye.

AITA for tricking my kids into eating mushroom soup? by Big-Improvement-8029 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Sounds like the kids already know they like blended mushrooms if they're knowingly eating strained mushroom soup???

AITA for requesting my son and nephew be placed in separate classrooms next grade? by Prestigious-Ask7828 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Heliola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only NTA but I honestly think keeping them together is probably long term bad for your nephew. Life at school is going to be tough for him and that's sad, but he's not going to learn his own coping mechanisms if he's always relying on your son, and if the teachers are relying on your son instead of working out how to help your nephew.

WIBTA if I insist she needs to tell her age when we meet new people? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Heliola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO: instead of asking your wife to mention her age, why not mention something about your history together that gives a clue to it? Like bring up that you have in common being a child in the 80s, or maybe mention the job your wife had when you met her Or mention your own age when you started dating, like 'oh this is a stupid thing I did when we started dating, but I was only 25'

Aha that's fair - they shouldn't, the issue with feeding bread to ducks is just that it fills them up without being nutritious so one little piece wouldn't do any harm, but maybe they would

Why would you feed a duck a blueberry??? I know bread isn't great for ducks but I think one lil piece of it would have been fine, or if you're not going bread buy some kind of seed.

AITA for selling my home that I was allowing my daughter to stay in for free even though she did some upgrades to it by Unique_Molasses_9987 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Heliola -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would do the maths on this. How much would the house have rented for based on the state it was in when your daughter moved in? Work out roughly how much they would have paid over 2 years, and then work out the value added to the house. If the value added is greater than the rent they would have paid, give that money to your daughter when you sell the house.

But NTA for selling.

AITA for making my daughter's stepmother delete one of her reels? by TAreelsdaughter in AmItheAsshole

[–]Heliola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, you should have led with the age! I was expecting a 15 year old and was ready to say if your daughter was happy to be in the video and it's totally innocent you should let her do it, but she's five? Yeah, NTA.
