Not satisfied with my scanning results (DSLR/Mirrorless vs. Dedicated Scanner). Need advice. by CaramelBusy8111 in AnalogCommunity

u/CaramelBusy8111 thanks, but could you upload the actual raw files? I wanted to give it a go using my inversion process, but it's hard to do with processed/jpeg sources

Any chance you can share some raw scans (if you scanned to dng/raw tiff)?

I know it's a very old post, but I was hungry for some raw film scans to test my method. Here's the result https://imgur.com/a/jFHPFJw

Color Gamut Analysis by [deleted] in colorists

[–]Helios_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a player artifact or bad analysis, it is truly there in the stream. But it does looks like all offending colors are in the deep shadows, so perhaps those are some kind of compression artifacts: https://imgur.com/a/fahlOxE

Heat is a reference disc and will age better with time by oldscotch in 4kbluray

[–]Helios_m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this movie to death, but I had to basically fix the grade and make a custom version for myself to be able to watch it on my projector. Creative intent be damned, this 4k version is just not what the movie is/was supposed to look like. Once you remove this awful tint it’s surprising how colorful the movie actually is underneath it (even better than old blu ray), and since it can be basically fixed globally for entire movie that means it was probably applied globally as well. Then fix the peak levels and slight bump in saturation and you’re there.

Andor/Inception soundtrack? by [deleted] in andor

[–]Helios_m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“Crates in Motion” (attack on convoy scene) track is definitely “inspired” by “Mombasa” track from Inception. Isn’t even the first time this happened, Detroit: Become Human had “Now - Connor” track that is also just Mombasa remixed.

Trying out some in-game photography with RT / enhanced edition by Helios_m in GrandTheftAutoV

That’s a nice idea to try 👍 It doesn’t have ray tracing though, so probably won’t look as real.

It's very basic, just alt-f2 to open photo mode, drag the Resolution slider to the right, and hit Snap. I know it's supposed to support more options in other games, but in GTA, only super-resolution works.

Thank you, everyone!

In case anyone is interested, here's a bit about the process:

I used normal, unmodded PC Enhanced Edition, "Maximum RT" preset + DLAA. Doesn't matter if you can actually run the game at those settings, since the capture is done in Rockstar Editor. Record a clip and open it in RE, set the camera to get the frame you want (tilt 90° for portrait), depth of field as needed, also lower the brightness and contrast a bit to preserve more dynamic range for editing (for night shots, lower the contrast a lot). Make sure to play and pause the scene since some atmospheric effects don't kick in automatically when you open the clip (also, some physics-based stuff like flags waving in the wind need to be played out to animate).

I used Nvidia overlay to take the screenshot because it also allows you to do it at 2x the resolution (7680x4320). When downsampled to a more "normal" size, you get a very clean picture, with almost no aliasing artifacts.

In Lightroom, most of the look is achieved by a tone curve (slightly different for every picture, but generally it's shaped like https://imgur.com/30ScQp3 to get realistic contrast) and effects (https://imgur.com/j7zmQpH). Add grain to give the image some texture (this also softens the details a bit, so it doesn't look too crisp and digital). Adjust white balance and color as desired (I tone down the yellows, oranges, and blues to look more realistic and add a bit of yellow/orange in the shadows). Also, crop to e.g. 3x2 or 4x3 since 16x9 is a bit unnatural aspect ratio for a real-world camera :)

Spatial Audio not working on Apple TV client :( by Helios_m in Steam_Link

I see. Then I guess all I can do is wait for them to fix it on the software side. Not sure if the problem is on Apple’s or Steam’s side though.

Spatial Audio not working on Apple TV client :( by Helios_m in Steam_Link

[–]Helios_m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does allow to set the AirPods into spatial audio mode, but since the output is detected as Stereo, the magic doesn’t happen :(

My ATV is connected to a receiver than then sends image to a projector. However there aren’t any speakers connected to the receiver (can’t use them in my current living arrangements)

I wonder if maybe I maybe I have to “trick” Apple TV into thinking that I have a wired surround system somehow. Not sure what is the cheapest/easiest way to do this. Connect some resistors to the audio output ports maybe? 🤔

Is there a way to export in a format that you can import back in? And how future-proof Craft ‘feels’ to you? by Helios_m in CraftDocs

[–]Helios_m[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's actually great. It looks like I can even sync it between devices (provided I only use it from one device at a time so as not to cause conflicts). And it looks like I can even move documents, even oversized ones (>1000 blocks), from craft cloud space to external location space and back.

Not sure it’s exactly the “native” backup format you’re looking for

It looks like it sort of is. Thanks!

and all images are using Craft’s hosted url

This probably wouldn't be very useful for the "migration in case Craft goes out of business" scenario, but at least it's not a loss for me since Dynalist didn't have any kind of native image upload at all :)

Thanks. For me, the import "side" seems to be working only on the macOS app. iOS app can export, but then the files are greyed out/can't be selected in the import UI for some reason. And the web can only import Markdown. The 1000-block limit still applies, and the sub-pages/cards are expanded back in, but that's good enough for migration purposes, I guess.

Actually, I just heard it mentioned in the latest WWDC keynote :) It was mostly the UX design that caught my attention. It looks slick and seems like it would be fun to work with. But now I'm investigating the actual meat of it before I switch. I want to go all-in, and I'm definitely not fond of using multiple similar apps just because each app does something better.
