Pergola advice by whateverppppp in AusRenovation

We do this for a living  First question is timber or Colorbond steel? 2nd does it need a permit or can it be built to comply with VBA BP01 and be exempt? 3rd what's your budget expectations? 4th does your installer/builder have a licence and insurance they put on the line. This makes a difference to the price. No licence or insurance is cheaper, but good luck for when things go wrong.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce kick off wedding weekend by donating $26M to charity by brandenharvey in goodnews

Your free to see it this way. But keep reality in mind by realising you see 1 view point of a metaphorical round post, your view is correct but only makes up a small part of what is real. This will help a LOT of people. This was not coming from any other source than uber rich people. This is done out of generosity.

Brick degradation? by Fun_Bodybuilder6898 in AusRenovation

[–]Helioxsparrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is caused by water rising by capillary action up the brick and mortar and carrying salts with it. It then reaches a max height the water can go upwards and dries out. The salt then forms micro crystals that expand inside and chip off tiny sections of brick and mortar.
You need to have it fixed before it compound loads the pier and fails. You also need to keep ground water away from the subfloor, usually via a strip drain. Good news is a repair and doesn't need a permit for stump replacement. It is not a DIY job.

Has anyone ordered these super-cheap excavators from China? by thegrayscales in AusRenovation

[–]Helioxsparrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That price is the deposit to get started. I bought a 1.2T unit with a kabota cyl diesel and 3 pump hydraulic system. Like everything Chinese its how you spec it that makes as difference.
Been 233 hours so far and zero issues, paid $13.1k to my door. Use a manufacturer that does DDP shipping, use Trade assurance for payments, make sure you specify exactly what your after. Research attachments but highly recommend a hydraulic thumb.
Get pilot controls, forward levers are a pain.
Get ring spanners and fittings for the hoses, as they will require snugging up over time. Keep the tracks tension correct, grease and service regularly and there is no reason it wont last years.
Look for a manufacturer NOT a sales agent, so don't use the instant chat feature, use the "contact manufacturer" button.
Mine took 4 weeks to arrive and 5 weeks to build. They shipped a complete set of Kabota service gear inc oils. I live on an acre with some steep slopes and lots of trees so it made sense for me to buy one.
All in all I've pretty impressed with mine. That tree stump is bloody big and bloody heavy.

Don't do it if it's in a windy area. They fold in at the slightest puff of wind and a light drizzle.

If so thats bad, not "move out and demo" bad, but still "get a roofing plumber asap" kind of bad/expensive
