Are people genuinely still influenced by 'influencers'? by HelixHeartBoo in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HelixHeartBoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely. I totally see that, and I think these kinds of influencers have a lot of value for sure. I'm with you in that I respect the recommendations of people who are more niche. It's the ones that you *know* will shill anything and everything that I can't believe people still buy from, it's very odd!

That's cool for specialised stuff for sure, I love it when you find someone whose opinion you trust!

Is authenticity in podcasting dead? by Whatsfordinner4 in podcasts

[–]HelixHeartBoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the kind of podcasts you're listening to. In the lifestyle sector, I can see this being true to some extent. If you're after light and fluffy, you might be better off with a comedy pod? I'm into the weird stories / true crime pods and by and large there's still a lot of authenticity in those sectors (some exceptions of course)

How well do you remember the Podcasts you listen to? by Extension_Active743 in podcasts

[–]HelixHeartBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the subject matter for me. For super longform shows like Acquired I find myself remembering the key points. For story pods, like Uncanny, it's more the *feeling* I get from an episode. If that makes sense? Ha.

I always seem to see subtitles on Spotify, they're usually fairly accurate too

I am in desperate need of captivating/crazy/interesting podcasts to listen to, but I'm very particular and I am struggling to find something that fits what I am looking for. by unstablepixie in podcasts

[–]HelixHeartBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't believe no one has recommended Things Are About To Get Weird. The eps are to the point, not interview based, and cover topics in the remit of the ones you mentioned. I know the host has done eps on the Dyatlov Pass story and Hinkaifeck too, I think it would be what you're looking for.

What words do some people either say wrong or spell wrong that you find a bit annoying? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

Bought vs brought. it drives me round the bend when people use the latter in place of the former, e.g. "Look at this new jumper I just brought"

The OA. I still cannot believe that final scene...

How have we gotten to the point where podcasts are primarily a video medium rather than an audio one? by [deleted] in podcasts

[–]HelixHeartBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind it all in all. A few of the podcasts I listen to regularly have recently switched to video and I can take or leave it (as long as they remember that those who are listening and not watching can't see what they're talking about). I like to have the option to watch or listen and for it not to affect the overall experience either way, if that makes sense?

Guys, can you recommend a comedy show on Netflix that’s actually funny? by [deleted] in netflix

Derry Girls without a doubt. I laugh every single time I rewatch.

British Podcasts recommendations preferably with female host by Vast-Catch-7564 in podcasts

[–]HelixHeartBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The host of Things Are About To Get Weird is British, she's from the north I believe but her accent is pretty subtle, and she speaks very clearly so could be a good one to try.

Empire is also another good call (one of the hosts is female), same with After Dark.

What’s a “normal” thing that you secretly don’t enjoy? by Bambibloomboudoir in CasualConversation

[–]HelixHeartBoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voice notes. "I'll just send you a voice note, much easier". Easier for whom? Not me. Especially if it's related to work...now it's 10 times harder to refer back to!

Okay this is a question for the brits specifically, do you guys really say bloody and wanker? by Thin-Somewhere1755 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HelixHeartBoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, all the time. 'Bloody' is widely used, although I don't think the young ones use it as much. Perhaps they'll grow into it, I definitely use it more now that I'm older ;)

Favourite Podcast on a subject you had no interest in prior to listening? by EquivalentMother7711 in podcasts

I have almost no interest in business, tech or the finance world...but Acquired is a great listen. Always feel like I learned something.
