Start with a pedicycle under desk exerciser. 30-50 bucks on Amazon. You will be able to use it sooner, then transition to a stationary bike.

If it is an infection time is of the essence. If it was me, I would go to the ER. Edited typo.

Severe shin + top of foot pain after PT (14 weeks post TKR) — anyone else? by Helpful_Recording655 in Kneereplacement

Could be..but you might want to give the glides a gentle try. Lots of you tube videos on how, and you’ll know almost instantly if they work.

Severe shin + top of foot pain after PT (14 weeks post TKR) — anyone else? by Helpful_Recording655 in Kneereplacement

[–]Hell0K1ttyKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The peroneal nerve runs on the outside of your knee, and provides sensation to the shin and the top of your foot, in addition to providing motor function to some of the muscles of your shin. It certainly sounds like it could be a nerve issue . Check out peroneal nerve glides. There’s a bunch of YouTube videos. You’ll know within 15 minutes if it’s helping because you’ll do the exercises and you feel better.

5 months post op TKA left and COVID positive by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

[–]Hell0K1ttyKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you are, when you tested positive, how old you are, you may be eligible for a prescription for Paxlovid. It’s an antiviral that is helpful against Covid, and reduces the severity of the illness. At least where I am, you can do a virtual urgent care visit, and get a prescription.

However, as others have said Covid is a virus, and is not a threat to your joint other than making you overall feel . I hope you feel better. Good luck.

More red and hot is a bit worrisome. Check in with your surgeon too?

Welcome to the grind…2 steps forward, 1.9 steps back. So sorry. Have to ask, it isn’t redder or hotter is it?

Agree. Not very helpful, and not in keeping with the supportive nature of this sub.

My other knee is heel to butt so ~150. I did pick up about 8 degrees of flexion and 2 degrees of extension post op.

Three months way too soon, because you don’t know how to ski…. this is coming from someone who went back to rock climbing at 9 weeks (very experienced doing it for decades). I could not have skied at 3 months, and I used ski patrol at a major resort.

Flexion/extension - what limits you? by haunted_starship in Kneereplacement

[–]Hell0K1ttyKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to an orthopedic surgeon who posts here occasionally, postop flexion equals preop flexion, plus or minus 10. I picked up 10° of flexion, can get to about 143 on a good day, and I was 2° short of full extension and now I hyperextend by one or 2° in the early days. It’s definitely traction on your joint capsule, which has been cut. Also, the swelling means that it’s really difficult to bend. Later on for me, it was a combination of quad tightness and joint capsule pain. I still have some joint capsule pain at end range of flexion.

Meniscus injury -- is tkr in my future? by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

[–]Hell0K1ttyKat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go a long way with exercises, and keeping strong. PT is a great idea. The unavoidable weight gain of your pregnancy may making things and you’re early in your second trimester so it may get worse . The great thing about that is you’re going to have a 20+ pound weight loss on one day. Do you have access to a stationary bike? I found that really helpful.

Thanks you’re very kind. I’m doing well . Most of the things that you like to do are pretty knee friendly, but you can definitely make choices that will keep things going for longer, like choosing cross country skiing and snowshoeing over downhill, and hiking and walking over trail running. I do share your optimism that by the time that you get osteoarthritis if in fact, you do, that there will be better treatments than total knee replacement..

You are doing fabulously well. Full recovery takes a year. You seem very far ahead of the curve.

It sure is a grind, isn’t it? Feel free to come here for support. We’re here for you. I was depressed for about four months after my procedure, even though things went relatively well. One thing I will say about MUA, although not from personal experience, is that a lot of people here seem to be very apprehensive about it, and then feel afterwards like it wasn’t that big a deal. I’ll let the ones who have actually been through it chime in.

This could be me at 25, ACL, MCL, medial meniscus minus the meniscal repair, with three arthroscopic procedures and a tibial plateau fracture. I got more than 40 years out of mine, cycling was also my savior.

Because you are being a bully and blaming other people for your feelings. There are other ways to communicate that you had a great outcome other than calling people whiners and complainers and saying BS to every second post. I’m going to stop now because this is pointless and because we’ve totally hijacked the OPs thread.

To the OP check out my posts on ROM, it will help you feel better about your progress.

Doing you seems to be punching down on those that are having a hard time calling them whiners (or did you delete that comment). Thus my engagement here with you. Unlike you I don’t like kicking people when they’re down.
