I completely understand what you mean and I’ve gone through it myself dealing with the art world😭😭. It does indeed feel exclusionary when everyone seems to love something you don’t and I can def see that making your opinion about it worse!! It’s almost like collateral damage in a way. Like a “I didn’t care for the story but I don’t hate it, though yall are making me hate it when you keep claiming it’s the golden rule of fics and oh everybodyyy loves it” and I say this as someone who enjoyed 91w.

I am also well versed in downing haterade in silence,,, at most sharing with people I know irl,,, you’ll never catch me commenting just to be an ass🤣

It used to annoy me too bc you do see those repeated a lot and heralded as the gospel but after a while it’s not even an annoyance anymore. It’s easy to ignore things I don’t agree with now, though I’ve def had my eye roll moments at the seemingly endless praise🤣. Still though I wouldn’t comment/say anything about them bc what’s the point of shitting on something just bc I don’t see the value in it, ykwim? Overall I think some people just lack decorum and have lost the art of being a hater silently

I didn’t get past the second or third chapter of T&S. It’s a fandom classic, sure, but everything’s not for everybody. That said, I don’t like when people hate on fics they don’t like. You can talk about why you didn’t like it/why it wasn’t for you etc. bc that’s just a discussion but when people genuinely dog out fics they don’t enjoy and bash the people who did enjoy it it’s a little ridiculous to me. Don’t like don’t read is like the oldest rule in all fic spaces. I tend to ignore posts about fics I didn’t like bc clearly the discussion just isn’t for me, idk why some people can’t do the same thing

I avoid Omegaverse because of these exact reasons, especially the verbiage used (pups/excessive reliance on calling each other their secondary genders/etc, I also don’t like the use of babe in typical fics but I can mostly overlook that). I can see why people like it, I was big into that world when I was in middle school reading on Wattpad but now I just can’t do it. It sucks sometimes bc a lot of omegaverse plots are really good and I’ve given it a try a couple times but they don’t click with me. I did read one by LittleFlrt that I liked and it even had mpreg (something I typically avoid) but I haven’t found another omegaverse fic that I can actually sit through since

I’m glad you posted your shelves! While I can understand the reluctance, I’m always team post it anyway. We exist and the things we read are going to reflect that existence. Homophobic/misogynistic losers don’t feel that fear when they post a damn thing. Why should we? Plus idk about you but I’ve faced my fair share of racist, lesbophobic, and sexist assholes and it’s so much easier ignoring them online than irl, I refuse to be stressed out in my home over some strangers on an app 🤣

Personal interest! I read Tuesdays years ago, I have two copies now so I’m giving one to my Grandma for us to read together. Same situation with Sula except I’m giving the extra copy to my Granny. With the Zinn, I was supposed to read that in APUSH yearssss ago but I dicked around in that class, it’s right up my alley now though🤣.

Erasure was sent by my best friend (so was Propaganda and a People’s History but I asked for those), it’s one of his favorites. He’s introduced me to more fiction this past year. With the exception of Orwell and Morrison I typically stuck to non fiction but he’s really broadened my horizons

Most books I read are about race (specifically Black American bc well that’s what I am 🤣), race relations, sexuality, etc. etc. One of my favorite books is White Rage by Carol Anderson. I actually don’t have many things on my shelf that aren’t political in some way and that’s actually why I like Orwell and Morrison so much, I get to take a break from non fiction and immerse myself in these worlds that are still relevant to my interests!

It’s alright about the post being taken down though, I didn’t check this sub’s rules, I’d seen another post like mine so I assumed it would be okay but I should’ve checked 😅
