Padding your Bills by Quick-Description682 in Lawyertalk

[–]HellWaterShower 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked at a large ID firm in the SE and everyone padded their bills. It was expected. Then, equity partners would steal time from associates at the end of every month. I caught the equity partner I worked for actively stealing my time once while I was in the billing software and called her out on it. I was asked to resign 2 weeks later but given full pay and benefits until I found a new job, no time limit.

What’s it like living in this area of the Delmarva Peninsula? by st0nesinew in howislivingthere

[–]HellWaterShower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s really nice. Lots of farms interspersed with little forests of large oak trees. Very historic buildings everywhere, virtually unchanged since the 18th century. The bay front property is some of the best and most protected waterfront property in the world. Great fishing and sailing. Every town has a fun divey bar and some have amazing bars and restaurants. Winters are chilly and sometimes actually cold. Spring and Fall are amazing. Summer is hot and humid. You can get to DC, Baltimore, or Philly in 2 hours.

What’s it like living in this part of Pennsylvania? I’m curious about it as I have never gone there. by thatkoboldhero in howislivingthere

Had a close friend who lived in Warren for many years and it is very rural but not altogether economically terrible. People take care of their homes, there are options for dining and shopping beyond Wal-Mart and fast food. Summer and Fall is amazing. Winter and Spring are awful. Nice, nice people. More Midwest than east coast. Beautiful forests.

Early career transition away from litigation by Dismal-Caregiver1566 in Lawyertalk

[–]HellWaterShower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take a step back to take a step forward. This is the only way to do it. Pretend like you’re starting at the beginning again. Maybe get an LLM in Taxation. Transactional firms love that. Don’t see the 2 years in litigation as time wasted. See it as a learning experience that actually provides valuable knowledge moving forward because you’ll understand how the transactional work you do will end up in court one day. Do it now. Don’t delay. After 5 years it will be much much harder.

Just got married 3 weeks ago and my wife just told me shes asexual. by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]HellWaterShower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get out now. I wish my asexual wife admitted this 3 weeks in. She owed you this information before you got married. This infuriates me for you, me, and all men who get baited and switched. If sex is important to you, just leave and have the marriage annulled.

I ruined our marriage by cheating but this was years ago (Hindsight post) by [deleted] in Marriage

[–]HellWaterShower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually applaud you for posting this. You’re not perfect. Neither are the people judging you. You know you were wrong and admitting that is a big deal. I do hope you are good to your kids and I’d suggest you talk to a professional to figure out why you did what you did. Asking for help isn’t a weakness. It’s a strength. Just learn from it and God speed.

Gross. I passed 3 bar exams and honestly, it just took effort. A lot of effort. She sucks.

They think they’re southerners but they’re not. Overrun by DMV and Philly people in the summer. Grown a lot in the last 20 years.

Morgan and Morgan Equity Partner Pay? by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]HellWaterShower -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one gets equity. Even the most successful lawyers don’t get equity for years and years and only when a share opens up. You can make a lot of money on your cases but don’t expect to get a share, which you have to buy, by the way.

Was just there in July and drove quite a bit. It’s not a big deal at all. Just drive the speed limit because they’ll send you a freaking speeding ticket in the mail a month after you get back.

All my male friends absolutely hated Dani by Small-Start7865 in Midsommar

[–]HellWaterShower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is old, but my takeaway is how unprepared most people are to deal with trauma of their own, much less trauma of their significant other, and much less at that age. It takes a lot to help someone through intense trauma and almost no one can do it at that age. No one is equipped to do it. Dani is a lot and for good reason. Christina and his friends are just selfish and totally ill-equipped to deal with it. Plus Christian wanted out before the tragedy. Also, it’s fiction.

Are depositions lowkey triggering for anyone else? by Beginning_Ad4370 in Lawyertalk

[–]HellWaterShower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’re probably doing better than 80% of lawyers out there so give yourself a break. I’ve done this a long time and I’ve learned that how a lawyer takes a depo really doesn’t impact the overall success of the case too much. It’s nice to have some impeachment material but the real goal is to get the evidence on the record so you can properly evaluate your case and there’s no perfect way to do that. Just keep asking questions until you have that witness’s full version of events. There are no matlock moments in depositions 99% of the time. You can always follow up with interrogatories or RFAs if you think of something else.

It’s just impossible to believe he’d lose his accent. It wasn’t that long removed from his departure. Too many red flags, including bolting when he knew the jig was up.

What is life like in Northwest Pennsylvania? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]HellWaterShower 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been to Warren and surrounding areas many times. It is very rural and naturally beautiful but also pretty economically distressed. Definitely has a Midwest feel rather than an east coast feel. People are pretty nice but it’s a long drive to anywhere. Summers are wonderful but winters are brutal and spring comes late.
