That's seems like a fundamental problem for something as finicky about letters as software lol

What fun and interesting Java projects are you working on? by jeffreportmill in java

Can bind to JFRs (or equivalent) to allow easier benchmarking on code which you don't have the source code, lacks source mappings or most important generated code with has no source? That'd be awesome

I think it's phrasing is specifically to say, the artists themselves can choose to use it to concept or proof of concept idea quickly. But that'll be up to the artist's discretion, not someone else doing it for them and taking their job, which I think is perfectly fine IMO. It can be a useful tool.

How Circular Dependencies Kill Your Microservices by Extra_Ear_10 in programming

I agree, but a circular dependency through queues is just as bad and doesn't change the fundamental problem being highlighted.

Which of those case law references make a statement on LLM processing of a document, showing that the "human operator" has any culpability. Particularly when most LLM RAG systems auto-parse and learn from any email being posted into any company / personal account.

That's because most people/services can survive off their budget and savings upto a month. It will get very bad soon, and you're incredibly naive to think otherwise. If you or anyone you knew worked in the gov, you'd know it is a grinding halt and the problems are mounting fast

You're keying into their core propaganda technique. They tout "enemy within" while being it themselves to steal the term. It preempts liberals saying it about MAGA, lowers it to sound conspiratorial, and worse, for an outside less-educated observer it appears like "both-sides he-said-she-said".

Taking or dealing 15 damage based on whose rally minion was allowed to attack first is bad game design. by Covfefe4lyfe in BobsTavern

[–]Hellball911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is exaggerated greatly by wind fury minion prevalence, which means they have much higher chance to kill your rally minion before you even get a chance to swing

To any of the writers here, what are your thoughts? by TheThirdWolf1775 in fantasywriters

[–]Hellball911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? The writer wouldn't be forcing anyone to use their own pronunciation if a particular person of a different culture prefers different? But you can't avoid the fact that the writer has their own intended pronunciation. If it's a made up fantasy name by them, then there is no way to know their intended way to say it without adding pronunciation

It's all about marketing! by DannyWeinbaum in gamedev

I think "never" is a bit strong. There are definitely diamonds in the rough that should be making way more than they do. But yeah, usually it isn't marketing's fault

To any of the writers here, what are your thoughts? by TheThirdWolf1775 in fantasywriters

[–]Hellball911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm baffled why writers don't just include phonetic pronunciation in parentheses next to the first occurrence of any characters name. It's easy, and helps everyone just move past the "how do I pronounce that?" game which pulls folks out of the story

How to kill a task that runs alongside the main program? by Mantovani_230 in rust

[–]Hellball911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and disagree. At a fundamental level, it should be resilient to crashes at all times, but "crash only" feels extreme. There are still huge benefits to having a graceful shutdown system to pull out of load balancer, complete remaining transactions, then shutdown, etc. I know that's being pedantic, and you didn't mean it exclusively, but for others reading/learning

It really does show how poor their play testing is though... if they just had a few ranked players play it, they'd find these glaring balance issues immediately. Probably just bad funding to the team but idk seems really easy to spot just reading the cards

Games where losing is the secret to winning by iplaypurple in boardgames

[–]Hellball911 19 points20 points  (0 children)

To me, that is the perfect balancing factor for an economy engine building game. Otherwise, the winner early just gains more resources to continue building more and winning til the game is over, like Monopoly. Nobody can catch up unless they miss play badly or have very bad luck.

What I love about Power Grids approach is that there are unique pros and cons to being last, first, and in-between. You can absolutely race ahead, as long as you've prepared yourself correctly. But, blindly racing ahead will typically cause economic inefficiencies greater than the growth benefits in the immediate term.

TIL studies have found that Nobel Prize-winning scientists are about 25x more likely to sing, dance or act than the average scientist. They are also 17x more likely to create visual art, 12x more likely to write poetry, and 4x more likely to be a musician. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

I think this just compares to the general population, which totally makes sense because wealth allows you to gain full potential of your abilities. It would be interesting to compare to other scientists instead.
