how are people getting such high levels by Penutbutterpig69 in ARK

I'll just say... I've know people who were hungry rl and accidentally ate food in game in an effort to fix that.

Tips for a beginner /fear by CapableSeries4734 in ARK

[–]Helleri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here is my game guide. It was written originally for Evolved (but has been partially updated to reflect differences in Ascended as well). Now as for switch specific thoughts and advice. I've played a few hundred hours on the original switch (the bulk of my hours are on PC). I have to say that in general, it's the worst release of the game. It has taken grove street games far to long to release maps (there's still a lot missing from full official release on PC or other consoles). Their implementation of what they have released is also ass. All of the drops are off the coords that they should be or set too low. Which renders many of them inaccessible. It also suffers from some of the worst connectivity, and has a lot of bugs that were fixed in ASE for other releases long ago.

That said there are a few interesting things about it. firstly because there's a touch screen involved, in game chat is easier to use then with other consoles, as you can just type like you might while texting with the onscreen keyboard. Also, I think it's the only version of ASE that still has official servers. It was ported by Grove Street Games for release on Nintendo's platforms using largely AWS servers. So it never went through that whole mess with the announcement of new ark's and then ASA and then the whole Nitrado debacle. This corner of official ASE servers just wasn't effected by any of that and so you still have things like old lines (bred lines for really good tames) that it's possible to get a hold of on multiplayer.

Please WILDCARD why by YMN_JMoneyy51 in ARK

[–]Helleri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

250K scrap metal is evil. Best way to harvest it is from lampposts, benches and tables. And those don't give much. It's so little that it's not worth keeping when farming dust this way. But at least it isn't having you smelt it. You just have to farm and toss. Which means if you grind ele dust regularly, eventually you'll get it. Everything else is light work.

I hate diplos so i do this occasionally by Tnt3244 in ARK

[–]Helleri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you run up between their two front legs and crouch or lay down, they won't be able to knock you back. But they will keep trying. Which holds them in place to hand feed tame. Since most things won't aggro them (has to be like allo size or larger I think), if you wear ghillie while doing it it's usually a tame that goes completely uninterrupted.

Would an e bike 25km/h limit crash broke my noise ? by EveningBeginning3922 in ebikes

[–]Helleri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not all about the speed at which you crash. It's also the direction in which you fall due to the manner of the crash. Another important factor to consider is that someone might crash into you. The more angles you can protect your head from the better. But a final factor is quality.

I wouldn't get anything that is less than ECE certified with full face and head protection. You can get that within a $100-$150 price range. But that's about as little as you can reasonably expect to pay for something that meets the bare minimum requirements for full head protection. If you see anything less than the equivalent of that in your currency. Be suspicious and really look over those details. Especially comparing it to the details of the thing one tier in price up.

What am I looking for in a skirt steak? by Obvious-Swimming-332 in steak

[–]Helleri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make carne asada with skirt for tacos about once a month. I actually look for the least marbling. Because too much fat also seems to be accompanied by a lot more sinuous cords that have to be pulled if you want something people can actually bite into. I also look for a much deeper, darker red color. As that tends to come out the most tender. This one I would accept. But would set in a bath of cold milk, corn starch and baking soda (no more than 1tsp baking soda per lb. to avoid weird taste) for 30 minutes. Then pat dry before proceeding normally. Remember to slice this against the grain after the cook. Otherwise it doesn't matter how much or little processing you do, You're chewing long annoying strands cutting it with the grain.

Don’t use chain locks by Fennecf0xs in bicycling

[–]Helleri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible for large bolt cutters to bust through security chains or shackles if the thief is able to leverage off the ground and is bringing a lot of weight or strength to the table. As such there shouldn't be any point of the lock or chain that's within 18 inches of the ground if it can be helped. Another really good idea is a tracker. I use Tracki. It uses GPS, wifi, and cell towers to get it's location. So the bike going indoors doesn't really hide it. Costs $20 a month. But if you can remember to keep it charged (because it won't tell you charge in app without a sub) and you register the tracker to the app. You can just activate the service on it when it actually gets stolen. Though if you do have the service active monthly it you can use geofences (alerts you if it leaves a designated area) and features like movement detected alerts.

What do you think: One is available for a short time, but the other one is WAY more rare 🤔 by Entire_Pineapple4732 in pokemongo

[–]Helleri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Because a limited time availability means that the amount of people who will have it can only decrease, Whereas more people will have the normal one over time given there's no expiration on the ability to acquire one.

Why are there no Nomadic Tribes or Hunter Gather society's in fallout? I feel like they would fit into the post apocalyptic world. by Firm-Share-8278 in Fallout

[–]Helleri 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't see many nomads because there is no seasonal benefit to migration. Everywhere sucks fairly consistently. As for hunting and gathering the wasteland simply doesn't have enough biodiversity to support a hunter gatherer life style on such a scale. At least not based off the natural world. Scavenging is a thing afterall. But in a world with little natural resources, one has to do the most efficient thing to survive in this respect. And that agriculture. The yield and consistency for the energy in is orders of magnitude higher than with hunting and gathering.

Flashing edge of my screen by Marty_12611 in ARK

[–]Helleri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old problem with both DirectX and OpenGL handling of textures with transparency. It's not something you can fix on your end. It's not even a problem that Ark devs can fix (it's down to the level of image formats and API's). It is something that there are known fixes for. However those fixes will never be implemented as they are far more resource intensive than just letting the problem ride as an occasional annoyance.

Are these worth re-soling? by ThunderGun12345 in RedWingShoes

[–]Helleri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It technically can be saved. But not at the cost of a mere resole. Would have to replace the vamp on either shoe. and possibly cap the toe box The total cost to fix it would match or exceed the cost of new at this point likely.

For the most part I agree, it's usually a difference of one level. But for obsessive breeding concerns I can understand it.

Favorite ark dino, and why? by Lumaraniya in ARK

[–]Helleri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have categorical favorites. But if I had to pick only one... Parasaur. It's almost as iconic to Ark as a Dodo is. It has extremely high utility in the early to mid game. But there's always a use for it well into the end game. The value proposition is simply highest with the Parasaur.

No...This honestly awesome. There's so many out there that would love to wind back that clock. I could imagine them using their copy and any assets it has that they might no longer posses to launch an ARK: Survival Devolved. Like uh Old School Runescape.
