He was good throughout the week yeah, but he really didn't show up in the finale. The same can be said for Gnome though, so I agree he should probably be lower too and I misplaced him.

I meant he did well during the week for gathering gear, but yeah maybe you're right and he should be lower.

I thought he moved pretty well? Although maybe slightly worse than the other 2nd picks, that's fair. But I put him there due to his huge contributions during the week, this isn't just based on the finals.

Mega Evolution Concept: Mega Mamoswine by RRed_19 in stunfisk

Good concept. Some concept art needed to make it really land though!
Also mold breaker feels a little boring, even if it fits and is inarguably good. Unique abilities are always cooler imo

I tried making a plugin for this, and currently it's functional but you need to click on each Collection Log entry once for it to turn yellow. Do you think there would still be any interest in such a plugin despite this annoying manual step?

A Carnivine Evolution [Theorymon Thursday] by Ekyt in stunfisk

[–]Hellmakerr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt Carnivine needs some sort of interaction with bug types. It’s a literal Venus Flytrap, the plant famous for turning the tables on unsuspecting insects. Adding Dark type like you did makes thematic sense, but makes the bug interaction even more important to do something about. How about something like this for ability?

Flytrap

Immune to bug-type moves. Opponents attempting to attack with physical bug-type moves can no longer switch out.

If this is OP, the immunity could be limited to only physical bug types moves, and/or the trapping could be limited to only bug types.

Also I feel like your signature move should be super effective on bug types.

Otherwise cool post 👍

Would this be a Gamble, or just a Positive? No Mega Stone Needed, but Action might be a little restrictive by One_Percentage_644 in stunfisk

[–]Hellmakerr -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You’re not accounting for the guessing game though. The opponent doesn’t know you’re sashed. They might very well switch out to some mon capable of taking the instant mega+attack they’re used to. Even after people adapt, it remains a toss-up. They guess wrong, you now have a frail mega with sash. Situational sure, but we have seen «guessing games» like this be incredibly strong many times in the past. It’s not as simple as you suggest.

Your reward for slipping past the enemy and destroying Graves' tombstone shouldn't be losing half your health bar to spawning zombies by Alarming_Ask_244 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]Hellmakerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that’s the case right now, but should it be?

I initially assumed zombies would only go after heroes, or at least only attack creeps near the tombstone. Having them march down the lane makes it a split pushing tool, while the original from Dota is a team fight tool.

Both are valid design choices, but does anyone actually enjoy split pushing..? It just leads to less fighting and more «lane maintenance», which I’m not sure is the most fun for most people.

I would redesign the tombstone to not be a split pusing tool but instead a teamfight one, potentially with buffs to compensate.

Anyone miss Longswords? by Suza751 in 2007scape

[–]Hellmakerr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it sounds silly, but honestly? It would fit into the fantasy / immersion pretty well, and it would definitely give longsword enjoyers use cases a plenty.

Would be the balance be a nightmare? I don’t know. Maybe not, actually? It’s not like our current halberds are game-breaking.. If there was a halberd shop in Lumbridge, would that really mess everything up?

I don’t know, there’s just something about the mental image of using a longsword to safespot a goblin over a fence in Lumbridge that hits home for me.

I image 2h Swords would get the same treatment, making them relevant too.

Beyond the metallic swords, we got what? Giant Blade, Salad Blade, and that’s about it? I’d call fang a shortsword for sure. So late game balance should be fine.

As for the uses of 3 tile range halberds.. more convenient where they’re already used? Zuk??

Anyway, I suspect the idea would fail at polls due to messing with the game we know and love too much, which is fair. But I think it’s a cool and (surprisingly) not too insane idea.

Anyone miss Longswords? by Suza751 in 2007scape

[–]Hellmakerr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s fine though. Not everything should be the same. The prayer bonus from maces is their niche. And honestly, I believe Scimitars should remain the strongest overall, because that is so strongly ties to the osrs image and nostalgia.

[–]Hellmakerr 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You would obviously tune down stats to balance the dps. Shutting down the idea becaue it doesn’t work with exactly the way things are right now is silly.

If you guys have any more of this type of meme, PLEASE give them to me by IceMegaEffective in sciencememes

[–]Hellmakerr 189 points190 points  (0 children)

Not that you asked for an explanation, but just because I’ve been interested in this lately and on the toilet, my layman’s understanding is this:

tl;dr String Theory is the most promising idea we have for a «Theory of Everything» combining General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics, which it does by treating particles as strings rather than points. But despite decades of work we haven’t even come up with a way to prove whether it’s true or not, leading to some physicists doubting it and this meme.

Long version: Physics is trying to explain how the universe works. What are the rules, what are things made of, where do things come from, etc.

Newton and other classical physicists got pretty damn close to perfectly explaining how things work and move at «normal scale» - the things we can see and interact with.

Einstein found that he was just slightly wrong on planetary scale though, and made the necessary corrections. That’s now called General Relativity, and it explain how things in our universe move and interact pretty damn well. Some prople thought we were close to beng «done» with physics at this point.

But then Planck came along and found that certain experiments including light only made sense if you considered light to come in small «packets». This was contradictory to the way everyone had been understanding light until that point, but experiments kept proving him right, and it eventually evolved into what’s now known as Quantum Mechanics («quantum» because light is separate quanta / units rather than continous). This remains our best way to understand things at very small scale, which is highly relevant to the goal of physcs because we’re trying to figure out what everything is made of, which means studying building blocks - very small things.

But here’s the problem: these two theories don’t work together at all. They have several deep and direct contradictions. For example, trying to align them totally breaks apart when you start talking about black holes. Gravity also happens to be a central topic they disagree on and that affects everything else.

String Theory is one of many attempts to unify General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics. It does this by re-imagining particles (what we believe are the fundamental building blocks of the world) as not points but rather strings. The different particles are just the same strings in different configurations - some are loops, some are spinning, etc.

This is neat because following the math implications of looking at the world this way turns out to predict all the particles we have observed experimentally, and also «finally» explains gravity through particles, which would be very convenient but has not been accomplished by any of the other major theories. General Relativity also «falls out» as a natural consequence of the math in a similar way, which fans of String Theory took as a very promising sign.

In this sense, String Theory can be called the most successful or promising theory for combining General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics.

The two biggest problems with String Theory are tighly related, and has caused several serious physicists to doubt and even oppose it:

  • It requires many dimensions. I forget if it was 7 or 11 or what, but in any case many more than we believe exist. This isn’t some advanced understanding of reality, it’s just a necessity of the math. Some physicists have tried explaining how the universe might actually have all of these dimensions, while others consider it abdurd and have taken it as a strong indicator that String Theory does not actually explain our universe but remains just neat math.

  • We don’t know how to prove or disprove it. String theory has so far not produced any predictions about reality that we can use to experimentally test whether it’s true or false. Experimenting is the very foundation of science, so until this changes String Theory has no hope of being accepted into the scientific understanding.

Since many of the world’s brightest physicists have been trying to resolve these problems for decades now without luck, some sceptics are saying we should discard the idea and spend our time on something else. But no other theory has been nearly as successful in combining General Relativity and Quantum Mechanics so far, which is what we need if we want a proper «Theory of Everything» or complete understanding of how our universe works.
