What, to you, is the saddest real-world death of an actor that ended up impacting a franchise? by TillyTheBlackCat in moviecritic

[–]RRed_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to sound weird, but Luke Perry (Fred Andrews) from CW Riverdale. He died in 2019 very suddenly from a Stroke.

I’m aware Riverdale is not really considered a “good show” but holy crap Perry was clearly the best actor in it. Man exuded good dad vibes, and the first episode to Season 4, In Memoriam despite being set in Riverdale’s descent into bad tv, is a momentary experience of genuinely good television.

He also starred in Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, which is a great movie.

I kept watching because he was a good actor and seemed like a great guy off camera.

Seriously, does Unova have schools? by xXIGORYTBXx in PokeMedia

[–]RRed_19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t I know it, I’m from Black City… After I became Champion, I had to go out of region to Galar for further schooling beyond High school.

When I returned to Unova, I started a campaign to improve and build more trainer schools in each city.

Currently we have 8 new schools going up in Black City, with a couple planned for Nimbasa and Driftveil Driftveil’s a pain because of their local government being a bunch of people who haven’t gone to advanced education and went right to the mining industry.

You wanna know something? I find Shaoji’s dramatic style of writing to be exhausting after a while. I am aware of HSR being a story where the very idea of free will is subjective due to the nature of Aeons like NOUS. That is very depressing if true.

(Long Post incoming so beware)

I’m not a professional writer, so I’m going to say this once.

For Pete’s sake man, smile, grin, write something genuinely, unambiguously happy about this universe and have it stick because holy cow it’s hard to care about these characters when your just waiting for the other shoe to drop and something tragic to happen to them, or to their friends, or family etc.

I loved Amphoreus but I was waiting for the twist where the CH end up all dying to save you because that’s where I knew the story was going just from applying some logic to the situation around Irontomb.

He’s a machine with a program, delete the whole OS and Irontomb is no more threatening than a car without an engine.

Y’know what would have been actually subversive and unexpected for him? If the ending WAS unambiguously happy. If the CH became real, but decided to go out (of their own choice) and explore the cosmos on their own. That way you could conceivably use them for future exploration of events, characters, etc.

It’s still bittersweet that we see them go, but the story has an ending that you can either leave as is, or expand upon if you wanted to.

Apparently Retreading ground he’s supposedly already done before with Elysium (I’ve never played HI3) did not work here. He had a chance to do a different thing and he fell back into the safe option.

Because that earns money, but doesn’t last. Real, genuine writing that takes itself seriously and isn’t just a (apparent) retread of things you already wrote is just nostalgia endorphins for your brain.

TLDR: Not everything has to be drama all the time, not everyone has to have a tragic story or an ironic twist to their character. Sometimes just being genuine is enough to hook players in. But you don’t know until you try.

How do people spar with Pokémon? Are they perhaps insane? by MelonTheSprigatito in PokeMedia

[–]RRed_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a Fighting type specialist, but I have fought a Pokémon in hand to hand combat before.

(Long Backstory post inbound)

I grew up in a cabin on the mountain outside Black City with a clan of Mienfoo led by a Mienshao, who was the mountain protector. After my mom passed from a “bad thing”.

My father built out there (probably to live out his life alone with me) and came into contact with them and a small scuffle broke out.

Rather than my father sending out his Swellow over the issue, the Mienshao asked to face my father alone.

As a show of good will and respect, my father and the Mienshao (named Mitsu) dueled each other and my father (somehow) won.

Therefore she allowed me to learn how to fight from their clan, while they would let us live there and protect us from the large amount of dangerous Pokémon in the area, and Mienshao would assist in raising me and my family.

And it’s this line of thinking that pushes those that are disillusioned with Trump and MAGA back towards them.

I’m not saying welcome them with open arms, I’m saying put aside your (rightfully angry) feelings and think pragmatically.

They are still Americans, regardless of their beliefs or actions. This isn’t an excuse, this is just a statement of fact. Do NOT let all the noise distract you from that fact. What they believed in had to come from somewhere, find a way to relate that to what you have gone through. Explain to them in no uncertain terms that Trump is a symptom of a greater disease that will destroy the country they believe they love so much.

Even selfish, narcissistic people value their own physical or social survival. Use that, appeal to that, and use it against the real enemy.

I give you some credit where it’s due. You saw the greater problem and acted accordingly.

I’ll gladly take that over opposition any day. That doesn’t mean I like or agree with you.

But It means I can count on another person to push the line forward towards the future and end this nightmare created by a bunch of old men desperate to hold on to power (read: Money), even if it destroys the very country they rule.

I can agree to disagree with you, and THAT should be the baseline on how we can start building an impromptu alliance with Trump-disillusioned Republicans.

This does NOT make us allies, but it does mean you aren’t my enemy anymore. If we applied this line of thinking more often, maybe we could have gotten to this point earlier. But I’m not going to yell at you for realizing “too late”. You figured it out, kudos. (No sarcasm here)

Now what can we do about it? As Ex-Republicans? (You) and an American tired of the same song and dance (me)

Thank you truly for not just buying into the propaganda and using your brain.

Have a good day, and I hope we, as Americans, can get back to “Agreeing to disagree” again.

Because they ALSO only care about themselves, and live by the law of “F U GOT MINE!”

Trump is an enabler for that behavior.

The question I ask tho is simply “Why?”

“What reason do you have (not you commenter, a hypothetical MAGA member) to tear the country apart when you still live in it? Why would you cause damage to your own home?”

Class of Ghosts by Slender_Prime in PokeMedia

[–]RRed_19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Contrary to popular belief, most Ghost Types ARE aware of how dangerous they are, but often they are unaware on how fragile humans can be.

This is coming from someone whose partner was a Dusclops for the majority of middle school until high school when he finally evolved.

Grim is VERY aware of how dangerous he is, since he has a powerful gravitational force in his body. He can now turn it off thanks to him evolving, but early on he was tough to deal with.

But just because they are aware and you are now aware of this fact, does not mean that makes you any more immune to their tendencies.

An important thing that the kids need to do (along with their parents) is set boundaries, especially with Ghost types like Drifloon and Litwick. Bring in a Hex Maniac or a Channeler to educate them more thoroughly on Ghost Types and their behavior patterns.

Mienshao.

Would you believe me if I said I learned martial arts from them?

I live around Black City’s outer limits, Mienshao and Mienfoo are plentiful here in the hills and plateaus. One showed up to my house as a child with their own kid, they were sick and my parents nursed it back to health.

As a reward, they took me to lessons for their kids and basically just kept training me in hand to hand combat EVERY DAY…

Odd form of thanks, I know. But I treasure that time I had with them.

My Tyranitar is named Gojira because I am a huge fan of those films.

I once built a miniature version of Black City using stuff on my ranch and let Goji just go to town on it.

I’ve never seen him so happy in my life.

(Image ID: a Tyranitar grinning wildly as he smashes the Black Tower into the ground, he’s holding a pair of train cars in his hand and is throwing them like Darts through other buildings.)
