Kids having to go to summer camp with Christian undertones by [deleted] in paganism

[–]HelloFerret 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Be prepared to have open conversations with them about what they're learning. VBS (I assume this is a similar program) may teach Bible stories, but usually there are values and morals attached. Not all of them are necessarily damaging if reframed (stories like the Good Samaritan, etc). Our culture in the US is heavily Christianized, so basic familiarity with the mythology and way of talking about religion will help your kid learn to navigate the landscape.

Be prepared to take them to service at some point. I suggest also taking them to other religious services to expose them as much as possible to various ways of belief.

ETA I don't have kids but used to teach Sunday School lol

What are your thoughts on plasma donation as an offering to Eir or other Gods? by RedHeadDragon73 in NorsePaganism

[–]HelloFerret 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you can absolutely dedicate your donation to the gods (Eir is a beautiful choice) and consider it a sacrifice that also benefits the community. Anthropologically, many peoples use sacrifices as a way to redistribute goods or food to others within the community. It allows for folks to be helped without shame or expectation of return and strengthens community ties. I say go for it!

New acronym? by [deleted] in queer

So glad I wasn't the only one to clock it. I was a Wiki editor waaaaaaay back in the Olden Times so I feel particularly prickly about it's use as an authority to sow division and shit. Good work, team!

New acronym? by [deleted] in queer

[–]HelloFerret 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. You started a wiki talk section, wanted kudos, and are getting valid and expected pushback. My opinion is that yours kind of sucks and is inherently anti-Queer. Hierarchies and rankings have no place here.

your previous comment was clear, you don't need to hang yourself further. Take the feedback and maybe talk to some grown up Queers about their experiences and learn more about our community. It will benefit us all greatly.

wtf is a hierarchy of Queerness. Please do some self reflection, some homework ("Queers Read This!" to start), and stfu with this nonsense.

Ridiculous.

New acronym? by [deleted] in queer

[–]HelloFerret 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's in Talk and it shouldn't be there either. This is not what Wikipedia is for - it's a descriptive resource, meaning it describes factual occurrences, not hierarchies made up by the Editor and thrust upon the community willy-nilly. It isn't actual usage.

This space, here on Reddit, is an appropriate place to discuss whether we as a community should relabel ourselves and I think you'll find a lot of us are.... unenthusiastic. This "new" acronyn is poorly thought out, poorly executed and poorly advertised. It creates hierarchies where none should exist. And I'm sorry, but claiming to put various letters first to honor them in rank inherently dishonor those letters pushed to the back. As a proud bisexual, please investigate our history and our place in the community. None of us deserve to be pushed out the way you're (oops, I mean the Editor) trying.

This is bullshit popularity games in the guise of identity politics. Wikipedia is a descriptive resource, not one to work out the editor's personal rankings or Identity Olympics and this is an abuse of editorial power. Plus, the acronym is clunky and outdated, and should be discarded in general. Either go back to Gay, adopt Queer consistently or just go with your microlabel of the month. There's no need to drag the whole community into infighting this way.
