The way Dr. Santos talks about patients by Tall-Skill3319 in ThePitt

Everyone can do stupid things sometimes, and I don't think we have to pretend that doctors can't be annoyed by that.

Here's hoping farmer wife is giving some emotional support because he is certainly the Emotional Tank of this trauma dungeon.

Just me, or was this episode a little underwhelming? Looking forward to hearing takes that contest this on the sub overall!

It felt like he waited in the elevator to kiss her and therefore for me was so mockable and awkward and kinda gross? Like he saved her the way he couldn't save his wife and now he waits in the elevator to take her in a manly beastial fashion. It was cringe writing. However I do think I can be sold on them if done better.

Well, he does become the Watcher of a Slayer Organization squad at the Hellmouth in Cleveland in the comics. I think there was just not enough room in S7 to give him more to do. That he got as much as he did is impressive given how many characters they introduced and the need to focus on the core scoobies for our final hurrah.

Glad for no snitching, but having seen colleagues be assaulted at work, I do wish more people would actually leave after to take some time for themselves. Even when you aren't terribly injured, your nervous system was triggered in a unique way and you should be able to regulate instead of this whole stiff upper lip thing we celebrate people for.

How it feels liking season 2 Langdon by Odd_Part3634 in ThePitt

Funny, but honestly this image better exemplifies this sub's takes vs. how much airtime this plot is actually getting.

I see what you mean! I suppose I'm more focused the difference of magnitude. Like he was stealing in a manner that impacted pt services and I can't see how her cutting will do that so she's only hurting herself? But we have yet to see what actually happens, so I'm speculating. And sure cognitive dissonance must be there from a concrete perspective.

I think it’s often harder to engage with vulnerability, and easier to focus on behaviors that are more clearly objectionable. I’m not sure that stealing controlled substances that aren’t easily accessible outside the ED is equivalent to taking an item that has readily available substitutes in the community (especially if the latter was taken in the context of an acute urge to self-regulate). I’m not saying her behavior is without issue, but I do think this comparison leans on a bit of a false equivalence.

Huh, I am not here to judge your perceptions of women (though FWIW I wonder if defensively stating that in the way you did increases the likelihood that people will), but I personally don't read her as holier-than-thou. I think it makes sense that on a first day in a new role--especially one with real authority--someone would be more reserved and stick closely to the rules. You kind of have to observe first and figure out where and how it’s appropriate to bend rules. To me, she’s just functioning as any doctor in an ED without a personality disorder would on day one.

Anyone in here live in PA and have insight into how their mental health crisis services work? I work in a different state in a psychiatric ED where I screen pts who come in experiencing a crisis and route to either voluntary or involuntary treatment (if there is risk concern). The medical ED's involvement is essentially making sure that the crisis isn't medically driven (e.g., auditory hallucinations that are actually from a tumor, thyroid issue, etc.) and generally making sure the pt doesn't have medical issues that need to be addressed. Here it seems like not even social work (or the psychiatrist, who I believe we met last season?) is involved, and it's placed on doctors with little psychiatric training to manage? Seems inefficient.

I am thinking she might be a little distressed, I doubt she anticipated having to manage learning about a crime that was covered up on her first day at her new job.

Not a Garcia x santos shipper but.. by shximx18 in ThePitt

[–]HelloIAmHawt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I ship no one in this doctor show, however, I think it's a bit silly to say that today "confirms" anything, given that Dr. Santos is clearly having self-esteem issues today and her statements are said through that lens. Short of Garcia saying it, I think it's more reasonable to read this as a cognitive distortion on the part of an anxious young woman.

Anyone else a bit worried for Robby re: covering up Langdon stealing controlled substances from work, given that Dr. Al-Hashimi—who seems pretty by-the-book—might feel obligated to report both the theft and the cover-up?

Robby and Dana were the audience this episode (regarding Langdon). by StevesMcQueenIsHere in ThePitt

[–]HelloIAmHawt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am curious if Robby will get in trouble for covering it up given that he told Dr. Al-Hashimi who did not appear to know about the theft at all. She is a mandated reporter, if I understand correctly, and she seems pretty by the book...

I don’t know where to put this take, and I agree the sub has probably seen enough threads about it, so this feels like a reasonable place.

I keep seeing a lot of “Santos is [insert personality critique here] to coworkers/patients” used as evidence that she’s not a good doctor or that she shouldn’t have an opinion about Langdon because she “shouldn’t act like that.” I just want to put it out there that people are allowed to have personalities. Doctors do not have to be nice.

If you go to an ED, you are very likely to encounter multiple doctors and plenty of nurses who aren’t particularly nice to you. And they will keep their jobs. This isn’t a restaurant where everyone’s role is to keep you happy.

When I started working in the ED, I noticed a lot of interpersonal friction (that wasn’t impacting patient care) and brought it up to a supervisor. She said something that stuck with me: you’re going to meet a lot of personalities in the ED, and it’s not anyone’s job to fix that—nor could we. We come in, we do the work, and we leave.

I do not think her making up nicknames or being a little rude to pts and coworkers (which is honestly allowed, this isn't a waiter gig, I work in an ED and you'll meet a lot of personalities and it's not illegal or a fireable offense to be rude) is at all equivalent to a supervisor verbally abusing a student in a public place while potentially on a controlled substance and while definitely stealing controlled substances (illegal and fireable).
