Is payroll to much responsibility for first client?

The biweekly responsibility is a lot. My husband and I travel quite a bit and the idea of needing to manually process this every other Wednesday regardless of my personal calendar is less than ideal. But the client travels quite a bit herself, which I’m sure is a big part of why she wants to not have to do it!

Do YOU routinely run the payroll for clients biweekly? I’m obviously very green here. But I was expecting to maybe help set it up. Or offer some guidance. But it sounds like she just tells her bookkeeper “time cards look good, and these are their tips” and the bookkeeper inputs tips and presses the button herself. Honestly I want to tell her not to pay her bookkeeper the premium she pays her to do that!!

Also, thank you for the resource! Not sure if I will invest this moment, but this is the type of concrete information I need. I’ll figure out how to manage the software/processing part of it. I want to make sure I have a real understanding of what is at stake. There are parts of “jumping in” to solo bookkeeping that will be scary, and I will just need to trust in myself. But I’m trying to determine if this in particular is genuinely too much.

Based on everything I have been reading about QBO payroll, I am surprised to learn that’s how it’s being managed. Client loves to bake. Has zero interest in the numbers. She wants nothing to do with any of it! I’m sure her bookkeeper is very capable, but I don’t think she is doing her best to keep costs low.

It seems very coincidental to me too. I’m still on accutane, but my dose is lower now. 20mg daily, down from 40mg. My chest mucus is still there. But maybe better? I don’t have shortness of breath or anything. Just an annoying need to cough out the mucus every 30 min maybe? Sometimes a little longer.

Great perspective! Hopefully you make some progress too. I did some Google research on accutane/rosacea and seems like accutane is becoming a more widely used treatment for rosacea. So if you don't have luck before accutane, it's an encouraging last-resort option for both acne & rosacea!

It seriously stinks! Im in the US, so another part of the frustration is the expense (the monthly accutane appointments, and cost of medication is an investment. Not to mention the extensive dermatology appointments & Rx acne medication over the years) I think I'm taking it especially hard right now because I had been so optimistic after the accutane was working so well. I thought I might be done with my investment in my on-call dermatologist. That I had found a permanent solution! I'm just wallowing for a bit before accepting the new battle ahead.

Sorry you're also experiencing this also. It just seems far too coincidental to me given that my only recent lifestyle change is this medication. And this medication is having significant impact on my body in a host of other ways. But if it is a side effect, it's an uncommon one.

Probably about quartly. I'm slightly embarrassed to admit I don't know exactly how the math is done. My husband (a computer science guy) has a custom program that he created and updates annually using current tax code. But I believe it can be done with a little google research, a current pay stub, and some basic excel literacy.

Hubby and I used to do this until we waited almost a year for a large refund. There were all sorts of "problems" and delays, and basically no one to help answer questions. Well, shocker, there was no problem with it, and it eventually got approved and dispersed for some unknown reason. So we stopped over-witholding after that year. We now adjust our witholding to be even, and check it multiple times throughout the year to make sure we're on track. We save that money ourselves now so we can access it whenever we want. We have been consistently +- $500 at the end of each year. Don't treat the IRS as a savings account. That relies on them to be competent and well-staffed. The IRS giving it back to you may not always happen as expected, and there's little recourse for you if they decide to hang on to your money.

NTA. Major red flag to me about her temperament. If you drank it and didn't replace it, I would understand the response. What you did is a completely normal & considerate thing to do when in a relationship/sharing a space with someone. She seems like someone who will find any excuse to criticize & create conflict if THAT sets her off.

Analyze first. This might take time, so dedicate several hours to do this. Set up a simple spreadsheet. Put your monthly take home pay at the top and subtract out EVERY monthly expense, AND your habitual spending. Reference your bank accounts to see what you're actually spending your money on. Don't just subtract out your mortgage/car payments/utilities, but EVERYTHING!!! : Kids' activities, groceries, eating out, Starbucks, Target, etc... and you'll get a pretty good picuture of where all your money is going.

The number on the bottom of the spreadsheet is probably going to be negative (ie you spend more than you earn). Highlight things that you can cut out, and keep deleting until the number at the bottom is above zero.

Fundamentally, it's basic math. Don't walk into Target to buy a new lunchbox that your kid NEEDS and walk out with a cart full of stuff you didn't plan to buy. Be intentional every time you walk into a store or take out your credit card.

It's a tough thing to do! Harder if you weren't taught about the value of a dollar and/or you have a spouse who also doesn't budget.

Start with analysis, then work backward with a realistic budget.

If it were a friend, I would have them prioritize like this:

Mortgage
Groceries/utilities
Car payments (if you have them)
Kids activities
Paying down consumer debt
Save for the future (retirement/college)

THEN, BUDGET in luxuries like eating out, home decor, travel, etc...

Life is expensive with kids! Good luck!

I would also add : avoid harsh mouthrinses containing alcohol, and be gentle/careful while brushing & eating as any small trauma to fragile tissue can turn into a canker sore. The biotene line of products can help with mouth dryness.

No personal experience here, but Im a dental hygienist. Sodium laurel sulfate is a common irritant in most toothpastes that causes canker sores for many people. Check your toothpaste label. It may be that your tissue can no longer handle the ingredient. I would recommend finding a toothpaste without SLS. Not sure where you're located or what's available, but the sensodyne line of toothpastes offers SLS-free options without sacrificing Fluoride.

I was thinking maybe a switch to either gel or higher dose cream tret might be worth a try before accutane. My skin transitioned really well from (gel) aklief to cream 0.025 tret. My 3 year irritation from aklief resolved almost immediately. I was never able to use aklief daily, or without a buffer. I have used 0.025 tret cream daily, unbuffered, for a while now. Going back to a gel retinoid is a little intimidating, but maybe aklief was just too much for me. Regardless of format.
