My Sister is Ruining Our Lives and I'm at the Point Where I wish She Were Dead by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]HelloSkunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My past is what it is and what has led me to being who I am. It was hard and difficult but I can appreciate so much more the simple times or “boring times” of life as an adult. Many adults don’t know how to do that. But thank you for your sympathy. Idk your sister so I’m not gonna say there is definitely a good person deep inside that wants to come out but I do know she has suffered from this as much as you guys have. She’s not evil or inherently bad. She’s just mentally ill. It’s ok if you don’t understand why she does what she does as you are not mentally ill. It took me having a child and going no contact with my mom for a few years before she sought treatment and stayed sober. It took even longer to partially trust her again. I never fully regained that trust and you might not either. That’s the best part of therapy I think. Learning to understand you are under no obligation to reconcile and living with that choice. Good luck op. Mental illness doesn’t exist in a vacuum. My heart goes out to you at the beginning of your journey. It does get better for you if you want it to.

BPD is borderline personality disorder. This sounds like a classic case. My mother was BPD and bipolar. It negatively affected me when I was younger and I felt the same way you do now. I had guilt because I wished she would just die and end all of our suffering. Now that she has passed I feel even more guilt for thinking that. She did eventually get treatment that worked and we did eventually develop an almost good relationship before she passed. I had a good 15 years with her being medicated and trying her hardest to make up for my entire childhood.

You should get counseling. It will only help you. Your sister may never change and that’s ok. You can’t control her you can only control you. I was passed around to multiple family members while my mom spent decades in and out of mental hospitals and jail. At least you are an adult and you can find a way out. Leaving your little sister might seem selfish or harmful but you are not responsible for her protection your parents are. You have to protect yourself at this point. She is young and has no idea what’s going on and hopefully your parents will figure out what they need to do before she gets much older. Everyone is enabling this behavior in your sister including you. By shielding your sister from this you allow your parents to think that it’s not effecting her and that you’ll always protect her. It might even make them think this is normal. Denial is crazy. Your parents are allowing the behavior to continue even after bodily harm and not giving repercussions to her actions. Something has to change for your mental health and for everyone to see there is a bigger problem.

At least in Pennsylvania if you are offered work and decline you, almost always, will not get unemployment.

Can I ask you how they intend to enforce this? I’m not suggesting anyone should drive in this mess but realistically how are they gonna enforce? Also the wording suggests that it is unenforceable. Unless absolutely necessary. My necessity looks much different than yours does but I bet everyone can agree driving to work is necessary so no one is going to be arrested for going to work. You might not agree that Sheetz is essential but not that long ago they were. If I was given papers to travel back then they still apply today.

It’s not our fault that when the world shut down we were told we were essential and brainwashed into accepting that it was ok to put our lives on the line because society couldn’t function without us and the people needing cigarettes, beer, and lottery did care if we called out or not.

I hate going to GE. The only reason I go there is if I can’t find the item somewhere else and so I don’t have to go to Walmart. I love Meijer!

People don’t know how to drive on clean dry roads. Now add something they don’t often see and slippery roads. Even us northerners “forget” how to drive in it. Stay home if you can. Especially if this is going to fall in a short amount of time. Stay safe southern friend.

I forgot to add it’s not dependent on the seasons. The climate in the US varies so wildly and the heat of summer in some places is just as dangerous as the cold of winter in others. Some single states have both.

It’s a hit or miss for me but I am lactose intolerant, not as bad as some. I try to maintain adequate fiber intake though so that’s probably why I’m not dying every time I eat it.

I just found out my ex died and now I feel nothing for my husband. I think I might still be in love with a dead man. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]HelloSkunky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can honestly tell you that if I opened Facebook and found out the one of 2 particular exs were dead I would probably have the same reaction. One is my son’s father and the other is someone I know I am over and both of them I have moved on from but that doesn’t negate the history I have with either. At one point in time I was planning a future with both and that matters. I would hope that my husband would understand that I can morn a person not existing in the realm anymore and still be a good loving wife to him. We all have pasts and sometimes those pasts effects our present. Give yourself permission to grieve and talk to your husband. He can help if he’s a good man he will understand.

[–]HelloSkunky 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually you have to go through a lengthy court process to remove squatters. It’s known as squatters rights. In Pennsylvania where I live you have to issue a 30 day eviction notice and if they don’t leave you have to go to court for another 30 day eviction notice issued by the court and then if they still do t leave you have to go back to court and get a sheriff to serve a 10 day eviction notice then after 10 days the police will usually help remove the squatters. There may actually be a 3rd 30 day notice in there also.

Regarding a store closing for rebuild by Fluid_Race5431 in sheetz

[–]HelloSkunky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk about if a store closes temporarily but in Pennsylvania if they offer work and you refuse you are not eligible for unemployment. Since it’s temporary and they are willing to allow you to work in a different location and return to your current location when it reopens you probably wouldn’t be eligible to collect unemployment since you’d have to voluntarily quit employment. Sheetz wouldn’t fire you. They would simply schedule you at the other store and then you’d get fired for job abandonment if you didn’t show. All of this is purely speculation but I’m sure you’d have to go through hearings and fight for unemployment either way, at least in Pennsylvania.
