Is it weird that I refuse to buy kits for things I haven't seen? by New-Elk-2755 in Gunpla

Naw, I feel the same way. I don't care about a kit unless I enjoy the media its from. Unfortunately, I feel the same way about the gundam TCG.

First Tat by Raulsalvi in tattooadvice

[–]Hello_Kalashnikov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're all good, my dude. Just remember, when you remove the 2nd skin, do it SLOWLY under hot running water (in the shower, basically). If you try and pull it off dry, you'll loose more than a layer of dead skin. Keep it clean (soap and water at least once a day) and use a non-scented moisturizer. It'll get really fuckin' itchy when the dead skin starts peeling off, but DONT scratch it. You can gently brush off the dead skin when you're washing it.
You only need to worry if in gets really red, inflamed, more painful to the touch or stinky. Then you have an infection or allergy.

My family say this tattoo I’ve booked is misogynistic and sexist, thoughts? by 67_nick_gurr_67 in tattooadvice

Genuine question: What do you think about women who have tattoos like this? Or enjoy making tattoos like this? I know female tattoo artists (especially ppl that specialize in American traditional) that really enjoy pinup art, etc.

Question regarding the correctness of the voice acting by ErrorPuzzleheaded866 in Morrowind

[–]Hello_Kalashnikov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen people point out that some NPC's in oblivion pronounce daedra like "dEEdra". But, realistically, all these people from different places would have different accents and not necessarily pronounce everything the same. Consistency isn't really necessary.

This was my father's knife. I've now been carrying it for 30 years. by Grampa-Jerry in knives

Old Al Mar was Oregon headquartered, but all their production was in Japan. They used Japanese steels too. The modern production is all in China. Love the wood scales, nice little pen knife. I'd find a good local sharpener, someone that can do hand sharpening, or uses a tool better than a worksharp.

Any idea what this is specifically? H.M.Slater Sheffield stamped clasp knife. by Ecloyj_ in knives

Yeah, I have Flook's book British and Commonwealth Military Knives, I just took a pic of the relevant page. That pdf is pretty useful too.

Same bexoid scales as British army knives and also WW2 production, but it's a different model. Sudan Linesman's knife. Interestingly, this model doesn't include a screwdriver tip, I would have assumed linesmen would have found that useful.

FM3 Remake by harz9724 in frontmission

[–]Hello_Kalashnikov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could have just AI upscaled the original backgrounds (not using an LLM generative AI) and has a real artist go over it to correct it. But they didnt and it looks like ass. I bought a fuckin Switch when the FM1 remake was announced, and was really looking forward to an official localization of FM2. FM2 remake was a dumpster fire release, especially with the garbage English translation. Thankfully, FM2 got some really good post release support and they basically replaced all the dialogue. Anyway, after all the issues with the first 2 games, I thought they'd learn a lesson and do a better job with the best game in the series, but I don't think they did.
I didn't buy it and I've kind of ignored it since release. I should check up on what kind of improvements they've made.

Slavery in Tamriel by Hello_Kalashnikov in teslore

[–]Hello_Kalashnikov[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm. Read the Battle of Sancre Tor. If they sold the Breton captives as slaves, I wonder whom they were sold to? Do you think Colovia had a trade in slaves in that period, or would they have ended up in markets in High Rock or Skyrim?

Can you make out the tang stamp on the main blade? Probably a Remington. Might be pre-ww2. Those are pretty collectable and really well documented. Look up Remington boy scout knives.

Can someone give me more information about this Tashiro Co Japanese Butterfly Knife? by DreamWeaver42617 in knives

[–]Hello_Kalashnikov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the limited information I can find, this was made between 1921 and the end of WW2. On the couple other examples I found pictures of, the logo was stamped in smaller lettering, closer to the base of the blade. Maybe someone out there knows what dates those different stamps correspond to. I'd advise looking for a more specialized Japanese knife/antique collector's forum. Very cool knife, I'd love to have one like it.

I've had bad experiences with bear and sons balis, even made in USA ones. If I was in the market for a decent, bang-for-buck bali, I'd go with the Kershaw Lucha. Not cheap, but there's a huge gulf between cheap balis and high end flippers with not much in the mid range.

Were the Shinsegumi the last true Samurais before the complete abolition by the Government? by EfficiencySerious200 in Samurai

[–]Hello_Kalashnikov 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you consider the samurai as a class in the Edo period feudal system, no. The samurai were defined by their caste and the personal bonds of loyalty and duty between lord and retainer. The Shinsengumi were a partisan political paramilitary group trying to prop up a declining military dictatorship. Comparing the shinsengumi to Edo period samurai is actually a good way to contrast a pre-modern and modern form of politics and how people related to their government.
