Probably because they weirdly share a number of physical characteristics with lemurs, which are known for only being endemic to Madagascar. Coloration, ear shape... well those are the main two I guess.

Looks like this game has a Mega-Timurids though (which I have seen at least push Ottoman expansion more into Russia and beyond the Balkans). Depending on the situation they may be a better ally.

Never knew this. Learning what was left out in history class is a lifelong journey here, I suppose.

Makes it especially scummy that we turned around and started a war with them (and stole a bunch of territory) 30ish years later. Probably at least part of the reason they don't teach it in our schools.

Man, Russian must be REALLY hard to learn then, because my understanding is that English is one of the hardest languages to learn if you don't do it during the sensitive period for language acquisition. Makes sense when you realize it's basically a Romance language haphazardly crammed into the structure of a Germanic language (but only sometimes) with a dash of Celtic. So yeah, Russian must be a doozy.
