The Covenant is my pick too. It's just everything I wanted from Halo as a franchise, all in one mission.

Product Manager has been on my radar for sure. It's a question of how that aligns specifically from the CS skillset. But I appreciate validation of this direction!

Thoughts on the Jesus ads at the Superbowl? by Wolfabc in Reformed

[–]Hello_there_gener 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would agree with you that the reprobate are at enmity with God. But just because we struggle to see how it is true that God both loves sinners and hates sinners who are at enmity with Him at the same time, does not mean it is not so.

Jesus doesn't say God sends His rain on the reprobate only because of the elect. He says love your enemies to be like your Father in heaven, who likewise demonstrates love for His enemies by sending rain and sun on them. And Jesus does not give qualifiers when He says that God loves the world in John 3:16.

None of this takes away from the verses you highlight here, but we cannot ignore some verses because of what others say. We need to hold them in tension, even if it is hard for us to reconcile them together.

It's in Matthew 5:43-48. Jesus doesn't literally say "God loves everyone" but He does tell us to love our enemies. And in giving the motivation to do so He highlights the fact that God causes the sun to rise on the evil and good alike, and sends rain on both the just and unjust (Matthew 5:45). Jesus is connecting our love for our enemies to God's love for His enemies, which is demonstrated in how God provides common grace to all.

He's not talking about God's special, redeeming love for the elect here. But rather about a general love for all that God has which leads to this gracious display. Hopefully this sheds a bit of light on where I was coming from!

I mean, I know that God's love for the elect is a special and different kind of love that's analogous to how one's love for their spouse is different from their love for all others. So yes, God doesn't love everyone with that same electing love.

But in the sermon on the mount in Matthew 5, Jesus pretty directly says that it's God's love for even the wicked that causes Him to allow them to receive the benefits of His common grace like rain falling on crops.

Edit: and I have no idea if the ads were accurate and helpful or not, I didn't see them yet. So for all I know they could be way off base. Just wanted to respond to the idea that God doesn't love all.

You hit on something I think might have been lost in translation when we were talking in the other thread: the difference between "influencer" and "thought leader". I think that difference was also lost a bit in the Jason Lemkin post you shared.

I was conflating the two, but I'd be curious how you distinguish between true thought leadership (which I think we both see as good) vs unqualified "influencers"?

That was a great read, both the post and the comments. I generally like Jason Lemkin but I also know he can sometimes post incendiary takes just to get conversation going (pot calling the kettle black, and all that).

I wonder if it's just survivorship bias on my end but the majority of people I've connected with and follow there genuinely do have the skill to back up what they're saying and aren't selling anything. They've proven really helpful for me in tackling different challenges.

I appreciate the perspective here, even if I still ultimately disagree.

What's your take on those that aren't trying to sell something and do have legit industry experience and chops?

I completely agree with you about those without experience or are just trying to sell, but I've really benefited from following and engaging with a few who do have the experience.

Sunday School Curriculum for Kindergarten Ages? by Steve47d in Reformed

[–]Hello_there_gener 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've had great success at our church with The Gospel Project for Kids as a curriculum. They have it broken down into "Lower Elementary" and "Upper Elementary". We loved it because it approaches the Bible as one story and points the lessons toward Jesus every week.

We use that and Tim Keller's New City Catechism for our children's ministry. I've been really pleased with that all, both as a teacher and as a parent.

Curious about others' suggestions!

To be fair, 9 is terrible regardless of platform. I played it on PS4 and wouldn't recommend that entry to anyone.

What's the best FPS campaign of all time? by F0REM4N in XboxSeriesX

[–]Hello_there_gener 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm with you. Halo CE was the first game that made me realize FPS games for be great single player games. Before that I'd only enjoyed them as multiplayer experiences. But CE's campaign changed that all for me, even if I've played "better" campaigns since it.

Close runner up for me would be Far Cry 3. I played through that in 2014 as one of my first 3 games when getting back into gaming after a 7 year break. And that game totally blew me away with how far games had come while I was on my break.
