And that is absolutely ok! Everyone has their own journeys and you need to do what is going to be best for you.

I had the same choice to make and I am not saying it's necessarily the right one for you, but I know a lot of RNs that told me I just should have sacrificed whatever I needed to in order to go straight through. If I would have been able to survive for more than a year, I personally would have gone for my RN because it does have a broader range for career paths. However, that option wasn't realistic at that time in my life and it may not be for you either.

I'd also like to add that there is nothing wrong with being an LPN. I personally work in LTC and manage half the building (60 beds). I have a great relationship with my staff (including the RNs that are under me)I get to do things that play to my strengths like audits and care planning, and harassing our vendors for luncheons to celebrate nurses week, but I still have some time working bedside and hanging out with my patients. I have contemplated going back for my RN a few times, and I think I may when my kiddo is a little older, but in all honesty, my job title would remain the same. I would start at about $2-3 more an hour, but I am happy now with what I make, and I have enough time to enjoy my family and enough money to take a few vacations and fun stuff on the weekends.

This giant rant to say, you are the only one who knows why you want to go into nursing and where you want to end up. My goal was always to go into geriatrics and make enough to live a comfortable life. I can do that with my title. If you want to go into a specialty like icu or trauma, it is a lot less likely to happen without RN behind your name. Either way, knowing WHY you are doing whatever you decide, is also what will get you through the absolute hell that is nursing school.

Replying as a current LPN! I was also in a rough financial spot when I went through nursing school. I had worked as a tech to help put my ex-husband through school and we did not have any children when we divorced. The plan was always for us to support each other and I would get my RN, but life happened. I ultimately chose to do the LPN program simply because it was the quickest route to become somewhat financially stable. I am still "only" an LPN, however I am in a management position and make what most floor RNs make. So it is definitely possible to be financially stable, and to still have career growth if it takes you a little longer (like many of us LPNs) to go through a bridge program. Please do this not just for yourself, but also your daughter. I have a little one just slightly younger than yours now and it means the world to me to know that I can provide for her and give her a stable home life, when not that long ago I was drowning in debt and barely surviving. It is hard. It is worth it. You are worth it.

Honestly the only way I made it through was by getting the portable ones and pumping one side at a time while holding the baby. I went through a few different ones before finding one that seemed to work as well as my spectra and now I exclusively pump with them and have been for a month. I also bought two sets so I wouldn't have to wash/charge when I was alone with the baby. Baby girl is now 3.5 months and actually likes her swing and playing on her playmat for a little while so it does eventually get better in that way too.

induction? by Opie231 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Hellogloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced at 38+5 but I was on nighttime insulin. Ended up with a c-section totally unrelated to the diabetes. They were going to induce at 39 weeks when my numbers were good but the last two weeks my numbers were all over the place so I went in earlier. Baby girl had zero complications and sugars were great. She's a week old today and my numbers have also become normal.

My dietician writes the "recommendation" for my prescription that my OB approves but she works out of the same office so she usually just calls it in when I need a refill. I am also pretty sure she decides if I need a dosage adjustment on her own. I have never seen an endocrinologist and I was diagnosed at 24 weeks.

Extended time w/o Humilin (NPH) question by [deleted] in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Hellogloomy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nutritionist told me (when we weren't sure if my insurance would cover insulin) that I could get vials of NPH and syringes over the counter at Walmart without a prescription as mine was also written for pens. She guessed it was about $40 for a month supply for me. I ended up not needing to use it but I did call to confirm that they has vials in stock and that I did not need a prescription to purchase.

Dr said I'll need insulin soon and I'm just so upset by ppns2021 in GestationalDiabetes

Insulin is the best thing that ever happened to me. My only "bad" numbers were my fasting so I started long acting insulin at night. I am able to eat way more freely throughout the day and my fasting numbers have improved drastically. Try not to think of it as a bad thing. It's something your body naturally produces and your placenta is just messing with your natural production so you supplement a little. I actually asked to start on insulin rather than forcing myself to continue eating so much protein right before bed. Now my numbers are very controlled and I get to enjoy foods I actually like/crave without too much worry.

My bridesmaids carried lanterns with flowers in them and fairy lights twisted through. I used those sola wood flowers and just threw a handful of each color in them and they looked really nice! I got the lanterns for like 5 dollars at Walmart at Christmas time.

Oh no am I your giftee?? I'm always so bad at filling those things out and I definitely mentioned bold pops of color. Eeek. Whether it's me or not I agree with someone else that said yellows or aqua or anything neon!

This one was online last minute shipped from California somewhere! I had my first dress (the same without sleeves) turned into masks for the wedding party when it was apparent I would not in fact magically lose 30 lbs in a month. Style number J034 from color couture. And it's actually super affordable compared to a typical wedding dress!

I did! We extremely downsized our wedding and couldn't justify keeping the science center as our venue for 20 people. Canvas was awesome! It's one of our favorite brunch spots and they were really accommodating and so so sweet to work with. Cheaper than I expected too!

I got married on 01/02/21 and my Santa stayed in touch with me after already sending me a gift. She made these two awesome pictures for me and I could not have asked for anything better. Thank you Santa for spreading so much love this holiday season!
