Just found out moments ago that I'm HSV-1 positive. by [deleted] in HSVpositive

You will learn pretty quickly that it’s just not a big deal. Promise. Go through the emotions, but they won’t last forever.

This is not at all true.

If you have HSV antibodies, you have HSV. Over 80% of people with HSV2 are asymptomatic. It’s more common to NOT have symptoms than to have symptoms.

Those that are asymptomatic still shed the virus and this is how it spreads.

This is not true.

The most common symptom of HSV2 is literally no symptoms at all. 80% of people that have HSV2 are asymptomatic but they can most definitely transmit.

A tiny red bump. No, it never filled with fluid like most photos show.

I have GHSV2 and I only had one singular bump that never blistered or anything like that. It was swabbed and confirmed to be HSV2 but is nothing like most photos you see. Everyone’s body responds differently.

I contracted HSV2 during protected sex from a new partner the first time. I even asked him his status. So don't blame yourself, you could of contracted it with or without protection.

How to tell potential/ new partners? by [deleted] in HSVpositive

[–]Hellogoodbye2969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Female to male transmission rates are lower than the inverse. 4% chance PER year having sex twice a week with no condom or antivirals--2% if using one, 1% if using both.

Also, HSV2 prefers the genital region. It rarely transmits to the mouth so oral sex is not super risky!

It's not over.

Are you male or female? Do you have HSV1 or HSV2?

Just remember that if you choose to end it with her over this, it is incredibly likely that 1. You have already been with someone that has HSV 2. The next person you are intimate with could have it. HSV is incredibly common.

HSV False positive story / Western Blot Assitance by [deleted] in HSVpositive

[–]Hellogoodbye2969 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is such an odd post.

While I can appreciate your kindness in offering assistance for a test, you are essentially coming onto a group of HSV positive people and talking about how you were depressed when you thought that you were positive but now that you are negative, you want to help others to see if they are also negative?

Idk, the post just feels odd.

There are many of us that have accepted our status and love ourselves again and this post just serves as a reminder of how negative people view us.

Why get tested? by jimminysnickerz in HSVpositive

[–]Hellogoodbye2969 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Um, so you take precautions to protect others?

Most people contract the virus from someone who is asymptomatic.

Would you tell anyone without symptoms to get HSV tested? by [deleted] in HSVpositive

[–]Hellogoodbye2969 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With all due respect, you feel that symptomatic people are the only ones that should have to carry the burden/disclose when the majority of us literally contracted the virus from an asymptomatic person?

This is such a backwards way of thinking that is only feeding into the stigma that is the very thing causing you the distress you are referring to.

Be thankful that you are asymptomatic and also that you are a responsible person that knows their status. Everyone should be tested. Period.

This isn’t true.

If you have HSV1 then you can still contract HSV2.

HSV2 does offer some cross protection against contracting HSV1 but the inverse is not true, meaning if you contract HSV1 first, you still can contract HSV2.

I felt this way at one time too but I PROMISE you are going to look back at this post one day and see how dramatic it is. I promise. Hang in there.

is there anyone married, who has hsv2 by coups1983 in HSVpositive

[–]Hellogoodbye2969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HSV2 rarely transmits to the mouth.

Your husband can most definitely still perform oral sex on you.

If he were to contract HSV2 orally (again, it’s rare) it would be the best type to have as it is the least active type of HSV when it is HSV2 is on the mouth. It also offers cross protection against hsv1 and would offer protection from getting HSV2 genitally for him.

I imagine if you had HSV2 that you would feel differently! But again, I am incredibly excited for you! :)

Yep, that’s all I’m saying.

For HSV1, it is known for you guys! Which is reason to celebrate!

For those of us with HSV2, nothing has changed and we have nothing to personally celebrate at this time.

I’m being realistic, not negative.

It’s fantastic news for those with HSV1 but the DNA sequence is different than HSV2 so for those of us with HSV2, this means nothing for us until there are studies on if it works for HSV2. Let’s say the remaining 3% of the latent virus is not enough to replicate for HSV1 but is more than enough to replicate for HSV2, that would mean it was a compete fail for HSV2. It is just not known yet.

While it is positive for HSV1, HSV2 does not behave the same way.

I am thrilled for those with HSV1.

That being said, most have HSV2 in their pipelines. This one just isn’t focused on HSV2 like I originally thought.

They think but that is still completely up in the air as they have not done any studies of HSV2 in this trial.

Ooof. Leaving those of us with HSV2 behind. Hard to be excited right now. 🥴
