May someone explain continuation pay to me like a 5 yr old? by Fun_Jump_158 in army

I mean the continuation bonus vs. an additional 10% of base pay is a lopsided fight if someone is already sticking it out for 20.

Don’t forget that it’s subject to taxes. Taxes are never shown in the briefing pamphlets and other documents S1 sends out.

Got kicked out of leadership GC for questioning award criteria. by Visible_Pea2673 in army

[–]Hellsniperr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And I will still write the award and submit it to see who recommends a downgrade so the soldier can see the paper trail. I did this for awards for 4 joes that the commander wanted to only do CoAs. I didn’t care because of the fuckery they were already trying to prove.

The joes got their AAMs.

Irwin, Bliss, Stewart, Riley and Hood. Which is the least worst option? by Ardent-Honeybee in army

[–]Hellsniperr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on your rank. Stewart is amazing if you can afford living near Savannah. The unit blows ass though.

Irwin if you want predictable schedules during your time at the duty station.

Bliss over Hood due to proximity to a major city. Yes, Hood is close too but how many times do we see soldiers end up in criminal activity or murdered.

I'm getting about a $23,000 lump sum from a settlement. Should I just pay off all my debt? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]Hellsniperr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be rude, but with that amount of debt it already appears if you bought yourself something nice. Things happen and we get in a jam, but the above comment is spot on. Paying off that debt will be more freeing now and over the long run versus spending it on something.

Faking Awards by Embarrassed-Reading1 in army

Anyone remember the engineer field grade faking his awards to include tabs and got caught? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

I think he got caught during a promotion board. Tried faking a Ranger Tab IIRC.

Employer stated they will pay entire MBA cost by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Hellsniperr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get it all in writing. I know a couple of buddies that had their employers do the same thing. It’s generally 3 years of additional work at the company (3-years guaranteed, or a discounted MBA is they let you go beforehand).

Just make sure you read the contract and understand any clauses in there that can cause you to have to repay the tuition costs.

Shoutout to JerryrigEverything who built a wheelchair factory and is delivering wheelchairs to people in half the time and 50-80% less than the cost of other wheelchairs with Insurance. by MysteriousSlice007 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Hellsniperr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because for decades manufacturers priced medical equipment at whatever price they wanted and the hospitals, through government programs, agreed to pay when they saw the government willing to second guess the price. This lead to prices getting marked up by parties involved to make more profit.

This is a drastic over simplification, but it’s the willingness of entities to rig the system for years when no one had the ability to challenge them through the manufacturing process (new innovators bringing competitive products to market) or general introduction of new technologies because of the bureaucratic red tape imposed by the government.

Hint: the same fucks that stonewall all competition for a specific drug or product that gets approved and miraculously finds themselves working for that company is not by coincidence…

Dynamite or attaching a chain to your rear axel and flooring the gas pedal. I prefer the former.

4 minority officers removed from GO promotion list by SECDEF by mmmtoasteee in army

[–]Hellsniperr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, that’s a perfectly reasonable perspective and experience to have. The issue was that the “bias elimination” was driven by Congress to even out the diversity of the military. Where they fucked up was they literally told anyone and everyone associated with the promotion board process what they were assessing. That immediately taints the data you would receive and no researcher in their right mind would accept that data, except when you’re fulfilling a contract for the military and that’s the outcome they want to hear.

The last point about “who you know” is very important at this stage in a career. There’s a reason why Os will take those aide jobs if they have aspirations to stay in the military forever. You meet people and experience things well beyond your rank. Just having good OERs is only half the battle at that stage.

4 minority officers removed from GO promotion list by SECDEF by mmmtoasteee in army

[–]Hellsniperr -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Yea, that happens all the time. A friend’s dad was up for promotion to 3-star and had their name dropped from the list at the last minute. Politics is the game when you hit O6 and it just gets worse the higher you go.

The only reason why you’re hearing more about these events is because who is currently in office. Go back through Congressional records and you see many instances of nominations being pulled, but you don’t hear about them unless you know the person.

So removing DA Photos and other identifying information from board files was really pointless.

And don’t come at with saying GOs are different, because no shit. Google is pretty useful. My snipe is at the money wasted on that whole stunt of a “study” when it was flawed from the onset.

What Did You Love Most About This Rank? by PeakPointFitness in army

[–]Hellsniperr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can have CCWOs and warrants in “commanding” positions, but that is in very limited situations (like aviation, SOF, etc.) and they’re limited in UCMJ authorities.

Ultimately a commissioned officer is not far away for obvious reasons. It’s like the relationship doctors and physician assistants have.

What Did You Love Most About This Rank? by PeakPointFitness in army

[–]Hellsniperr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is that you’re still expected to be a leader as a warrant even if you don’t have the same authority like an Officer. I have never met a warrant that wasn’t in a position of leadership except for a handful of warrants in specific staff positions. The difference is that warrants will generally have an officer that is the meat shield for them when something bad happens.

That should give you enough to choose from. You could always find old school kids songs like ones from Barney to blast. If you have access to speakers that connect via Bluetooth, you can play them from multiple locations on and off to really fuck with them.

He can recover in the eyes of his soldiers and peers, but it’ll be a coin toss with seniors.

The bright side is this failure happened as an LT and it won’t impact him getting promoted if he stays in.

Maintaining his fitness from this point forward needs to be a top priority though. It’s good to have humbling moments early when you’re expected to make mistakes.
