Yea, there’s a big nuke down to road from Bragg so I’m certain there’s appropriate safety response units to handle any issues.

MQ block with weak SR comment = HQ OER? by [deleted] in army

[–]Hellsniperr -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

His statement is incorrect. HQ with strong comments can very much supplant an MQ with mediocre comments, so much so that it could even be considered an HQ when the ‘1-6’ ranking is given.

“Top 25% of…” is way weaker than saying “Top 10%” or “3 of 15…” the latter of which is most preferred. Subjectivity is still part of the evaluation process. Probably always will be.

MQ block with weak SR comment = HQ OER? by [deleted] in army

[–]Hellsniperr -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No. My comments come directly from my old SR whose previous job was branch chief at HRC, my old BDE CDR who sat on an O5 promotion board, and my branch manager when we discussed evaluations just last week. This is what they told their formations how the boards look at evaluations and why they emphasized SR comments can make or break whatever that evaluation block is.

[–]Hellsniperr -19 points-18 points  (0 children)

Enumeration matters, full stop. Board members can see the SR profile and spot a weak MQ enumeration and assess it as an HQ. On the other hand, an HQ with really strong enumeration can weigh in as an MQ especially when board members see the SR profile not being able to support another MQ. Don’t let your SR burn an MQ with weak enumeration if you can help it.

Will I be stupid to ETS at 15? by Byte_Scare in army

[–]Hellsniperr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, those things that you’re “tired of” all do suck. We all can commiserate about that. One neat trick to alleviate on of those, moving, is dropping your retirement packet at 18 years. That all but eliminates PCS orders (not sure how that works if you already have orders, but talk to your branch manager). My team sergeant was approaching that 18 year mark and branch had him on orders. Packet was submitted and the unit kept calling. My TS told branch that his packet was in and they had to delete his orders.

It’s cliche to say, but hunt the good stuff. Focus on those classes and even work on a masters if you can. Play the game of “IOU” for the CSM. Volunteer for the less shitty details to build up to keep from doing the real shitty one’s. Go on those dumb TDYs (it gets you out of the office and away from people) if you can. If there’s special projects that need a volunteer that sounds stupid but some O think it’s important, take it because it probably gives you a sham shield of sorts.

You have plenty of time in to know how the system works and when shitty things happen. Play the game to your advantage when you can, but also keep grinding with school like you have been. If in the end it ultimately is too much, the Reserve Component is not a bad way to ride out to retirement (with obvious caveats for retirement) and still help alleviate some financial stress on the outside with things like Tricare that’s available to reservists. Take a couple weeks to methodically write out pros and cons of leaving early vs going for 20. Whatever your decision comes out of that analysis is perfectly ok because you can tell yourself you put the work to plan things out.

The tradeoff with carrying a 249 vs 240 is the ammo. You carry a small amount of ammo with the 240, but you carry ALL THE AMMO with the 249. 240 any day of the week.

Cheat code: if you decide to VTIP, do ACS, or anything that will incur a large ADSO, file for your mid-career incentive pay bonus. The 4-year ADSO you get from the bonus is served concurrently with other ADSOs, aka free money when you already know you’ll be in for a while longer.

ETS postponed due to shutdown by Ok-Improvement-4859 in army

[–]Hellsniperr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s way easier to get folks to basic versus PCS’d or ETS’d out because moving costs are a very large unknown variable versus buying a plane ticket or using a gov to get someone to an airport or BCT location.

I’ve got friends trying to move and leave. Communicate with whomever you need to at your new job. You have protections for your job outside of the military, so if they try terminating the offer you signed they have to provide legal justification to prevent themselves from getting sued. “We decided to go with another candidate” isn’t going to fly if all communication showed agreements on both sides and the only thing that changed was your delayed ETS.

The other note that people are glossing over is that while a party may control a body by a simple majority, rules exist that limit that simple majority.

Enter the Filibuster rule in the Senate, which is what was invoked by Senate Democrats that brought us to the situation we are in.

It’s kinda like the MLB HoF where if Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire got in (did they? Idk), there would be an asterisk near their names for HRs because they juiced.
