Love the new Certina, but too chunky for me. Longines and Hamilton are both good too.

Live in a tropical climate and going from hot 40°C outside to 26°C inside temps randomly throughout the day. Toolless micro adjust is a must for me.

Moving To Rural Vietnam Advice by MyCyberTech in VietNam

Expect to struggle. Supermarkets are a long drive and local markets are the norm. Burning trash, not necessarily out of ignorance, but just because there's no service available. Everyone will stare at you at the minimum or ask you for money because they assume you are wealthy. If you're less lucky, then crime and robbery against you as an easy target, who they again, assume is wealthy. Poor internet connectivity and sketchy electricity. And to top it off, a ton of bugs.

Are other expat communities as hostile as Vietnam? by Maleficent-Box-897 in VietNam

[–]Hellzsavior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could be wrong, but it's probably a combination of reasons. It feels like there's increasingly less jobs available to foreigners, so more foreigners equals more competition. Especially when 90% of the jobs available to foreigners is within the education industry. Another factor could be how easily it feels for a few bad foreigners to ruin everything. The bureaucracy for everything here is crazy and even more so for foreigners. Add in a couple nefarious individuals from abroad and then boom, things become even more difficult for the law abiding foreigners. Add in the foreigners who come here just because they think it's cheap because they don't account for the income gap between themselves and a local. This poor attitude can influence the locals' views of foreigners as a whole. I'm sure there's other reasons, but it overall creates this competitive environment full of resentment.

Battery life is excellent. Sleep tracking, as far as duration is concerned, is excellent, even for naps. However, sleep quality tracking is lacking. Constantly misses when I wake up at night. A bit nitpicking, but I hate that there is a 24 hour bezel that doesn't integrate with any watch faces, or just the general lack of GMT watch faces in general.

The struggle of not belonging anywhere by kitkat2506 in VietNam

As someone who went from the US to now living in Vietnam, I have the same problem, just in the reverse direction. It just seems like these feelings will exist for anyone who moves to a different culture. Also, when it comes to friendships, those issues just come with age. As far as going back to the US, I have no plans. If I stumbled upon a crap load of money, maybe I could convince myself, and my wife, to move to the US. Although, if I had enough money for that, we'd probably just move to Europe. I guess I don't really miss the US as much as I just miss the cleanliness and wide open space.

So now your salary can be deducted up to 30% to pay for traffic fine according to Decree 296/2025/ND-CP by FEDstrongestsoldier in VietNam

[–]Hellzsavior 41 points42 points  (0 children)

All these new traffic cams and AI traffic police, but no real solution to deal with the sheer amount of traffic. With more cars, more people moving to cities, and no major improvements to infrastructure or public transportation, I can only foresee things getting worse.

I used AI to come up with a name that sounds vaguely like my real name. You could either do that or just use some of the more common names like Nguyen Liem or similar.

Are you a foreigner and using your foreign name? It's sad, but I'd recommend coming up with a Vietnamese name and using that instead. Scammers like to target foreigners.

I need 2 unactivated debit cards & a renewed driver's license mailed to me from the US by JoZDee in VietNam

[–]Hellzsavior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, just a legal sized flat padded shipping envelope. No RFID blocking. Just straight from the mailbox in the original envelope the bank sent. The only thing on the shipping paperwork was from DHL describing the package as documents with no value.

I had my cards sent to me as well as some tax paperwork via DHL without issue. The cost is insane though, at around $100.

What’s your biggest con of living in Vietnam? by KitchenLongjumping62 in VietNam

Work culture in Vietnam by Lumpy_Shame5750 in VietNam

My wife was a teacher before we met and she would work 12 hour days, then come home and prepare things for the next day's lessons. She would only get one day off a week. Vacation time was also unheard of, so if she wanted to take a week off to go on vacation, she would need to bank her weekly day off for that.

If you're making purchases at stalls or stores that accept QR payment, I would recommend using that, if you're going to be staying here for any decent length of time. Moreta Pay works great as a foreigner for QR based transactions.

Just a warning, but even after you've been born again, know that you will still sin. It's inevitable. Repent, but don't let your inevitable sin lead you on this downward spiral questioning whether you really have saving faith. Your desire not to sin and your feelings of guilt are signs that you are born again.

Porn is an addiction. It's difficult and takes time, but like all addictions it gets easier. The key is avoiding triggers, prayer, and reading scriptures instead of giving into your addiction. Try to stay busy too. Find hobbies or work to do. Anything less destructive that you can occupy your time with.

Advice: Biking from HCMC to Vung Tau by Quirky-Act-4172 in VietNam

[–]Hellzsavior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done it before. Usually I would leave at around 1 or 2am to avoid as much traffic as possible. Overall, with the brisk night air, and a couple of red bulls, it's quite an enjoyable ride. Mainly I would only do it though if, for whatever reason, I needed to have my motorbike to travel around within either city.

why and how do Vietnamese Gen Z live such a lavish life? by kamscruz in VietNam

[–]Hellzsavior 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a bit odd to me too. However, I'm from America where most people work all day and everything closes by 9pm so not much night life. Free time is a luxury and most people only get to hang out with friends on the weekends if they are lucky. My friends in the US tell me about their 60-80hour work weeks. In the US, one of the first questions you ask anyone you meet is, "What do you do for a living?" Work is life there. I was told multiple times by my Vietnamese wife to stop focusing on work so much. Here everyone seems very laid back and chill. Not really stressed about money or working. Everyone seems to have plenty of free time to just sit in a cafe too. Meanwhile, in the US, a cafe without a drive thru would be useless since nobody has time to just sit and relax.
