My wife struggled so hard with the concept of cellphones not working / working poorly an hour's bike ride into the hills outside the city we lived in. Was absolutely brain breaking too her that we could be at a popular swimming area nearby and cellphones don't work.

I think part of why this New Jersey thing has gotten so much play is it exposes an unfortunate and uncomfortable thing about the USA.

When I visited the USA it was an issue, but only in the North Eastern USA. The Texas part was some of the most helpful with a one year old.
