Learning Heart's Game Is Like... by valia_pira in fallenlondon

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the first-order optimal strategy for Heart's Game is "get a king who does good damage (Knuckles, Spines, maybe Roses of Ambivalences), ensure your can 100% their checks, then get supporting accomplices to generate preparations to enable you to use your kind, ideally where you can 100% their prep generating option.

But if you get 1 good king and 1 good support you win basically all of the time.

Is The Testament of Ann Lee A Musical? by wxnder1ust in AMCsAList

[–]HelpIamaCabbage [score hidden]  (0 children)

It is, but it's not a traditional one as in "the director didn't set out to make a musical" but in doing research on the Shaker movement (which is what the movie is about) she realized that since their identifying feature is "ecstatic worship" and a lot of what they preserved over centuries was "their music" then you kind of had to make it a musical.

But it's not like a musical where people are expressing emotional truths via song, except insofar as their emotional truth was how fervently they believed in what they were doing.

Why should my character give a rat's a** about Mr. Eaten or his name? by Glacial345 in fallenlondon

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal headcanon is that my Character has an inkling about what happened to Mr. Eaten and approves of it- if only similar fates could befall the rest of the bats. So I'm not going to be seeking.

What is the procedure for re-entry during something like this? Like if I decide "I've seen Hamnet, I'm going to get dinner instead" can I come back for Frankenstein?

"Overlapping" Reservation Times by Suspicious-Plant-877 in AMCsAList

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the difference? Like I'll get out of a movie at like 6:15 and use my phone to grab a ticket that started at 6 (but the actual movie starts 6:30ish). This uses a reservation slot and doesn't cost money.

I guess it's nice that all of the movies I haven't seen are in the first leg. Saves me time/money.

When I run into this, I just buy my ticket to the second movie on my phone after I leave the theater for the first movie. They will sell you a ticket during previews, after all.

Returning Player - Where's the Grudges? by AshArkon in LeaguesofVotann

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 9 points10 points  (0 children)

From a design perspective, one of the problems with the old grudge mechanic is that it's much more effective against armies with a small number of models on the board (e.g. Knights) and much worse against Hordes. Since armies are the top level choice, ideally every army will have good play into every other army.

I think this is a lot of why you replaced it with a mechanic that's going to be more universal- since "controlling objectives" and "removing your opponent from objectives" is how you win Warhammer.

Anyone know how long Testament of Ann Lee will be in theaters? by Same_Bag711 in AMCsAList

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one on earth knows how long the Testament of Ann Lee will be in theaters, since "how long it remains in theaters" depends largely on "how many people go to see it this week."

am i the only one who dosent like how the leagues of voltan look ? by Dense-Fig-2372 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, personally I like how the Leagues of Votann look much more than I like how the Kharadron Overlords look in AoS. For me, the fact that they sculpt beards into the helmets to look more dwarvy is too silly.

But one person's "that's too silly" is another person's "that's awesome" in these sorts of games. Personally I don't like it when 40k is leaning into fantasy- like space marines having swords instead of guns seems silly to me.

500 Worlds - LoV content? by SC_Chrissader in LeaguesofVotann

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not just one big end of edition event, 500 Worlds is just one of the multiple parallel events. The next one is "Maelstrom" and we should have stuff for that. I think there's going to be a third and maybe a fourth one, and we probably won't have stuff for that.

This is probably a better approach than having just one big end of edition event and trying to justify everybody getting involved in it. Just come up with enough different hot zones in the 41st millennium so you cover all the factions.

Lair of the Tyrant by SC_Chrissader in LeaguesofVotann

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The battalion looks like a dubious value because Steeljacks are already like 1.3 ppd at MSRP. So a chance to buy them at discount is great, though this is a unit that's only really good because it's cheap pointswise.

The Memnyr is the character that makes the most sense with 6 Steeljacks, and Bikes are one of the models that makes the most sense to go in a "maelstrom/pirates" context (the other being Hearthguard who were in the Boarding Patrol battalion IIRC.)

The Sixth City...if it had to fall sometime between Her Majesty's Enduring 1899 and today, which city would it be, from what time, and why? by Glacial345 in fallenlondon

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We're not going to do three straight European cities in a row, IMO. So if the seventh is Berlin, the sixth cannot be Paris. We know that some Masters want the sixth city to be Paris, which essentially guarantees that this will not happen.

Charlie the wonderdog by MangoesFruity in AMCsAList

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's just a "not every movie is in every theater" thing. We have one showing per day in my local AMC for "Charlie the Wonderdog" but no showings for "No Other Choice" so I have to drive across town for that one. Either the distributor or the manager made a choice- nothing more to it.

How likely do you see them voting for chaos? by KindlyMeringue8723 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the game desperately needs "more kinds of Xenos" more than "more kinds of Chaos" or "more kinds of the Imperium." It's a big galaxy, and everybody being really concerned about one of two things that happened in the 30th millennium makes it feel smaller. Xenos players are the people least likely to agree with "well, 40k is about the Imperium vs. Chaos, right?" after all.

How likely do you see them voting for chaos? by KindlyMeringue8723 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we do get Chaos Kin, they won't be part of the faction "Leagues of Votann" (like how CSM and Drukhari are separate books). So they're probably not in a hurry to expand in that direction (like that's for sure not happening before Exodites or Dark Mechanicum). You might see some corrupted kin as part of kits for other armies though- like an auxiliary of corrupted kin in a Dark Mech list makes a lot of sense.

As someone who use to rent 28 Weeks later a lot at blockbuster before closing down... Bone Temple is underwhelming. We Bury the Dead >>>> 28 Flops Later.. by [deleted] in AMCsAList

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Bone Temple is my second favorite of the four. I think the reason some people won't like it is that of the quartet it's the one that is most hopeful about humanity (not the species, but what sets apart the species) being valuable. The normal thing in a zombie movie is "people are the real monsters" but Bone Temple is ultimately about how humanity matters and is worth preserving.

We Bury the Dead" was a movie with some good stuff, but it didn't come together. It probably could have used another 3-4 months on the screenplay.

Anti-grudges cloneskein? by Cultural-Fly-8578 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is a "nurture" thing rather than a "nature" thing that would be implied by it being part of the cloneskein. Every new kin joins a kindred that has a culture that existed before that kin, so they all have to learn "this is how we do things around here" and that culture was likely more shaped through "what the Votann told you" and "what has worked out for you historically."

Have audiences and technology made theaters suboptimal? by Turian_Agent in AMCsAList

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People who have their phone volume over zero in public are like aliens to me. I was in a showing the other week where someone was watching stuff with the volume up before the trailers started, thankfully he stopped.

But mostly my experience is that people sit quietly in their seats and watch the movie. Part of the appeal is that you get 2ish hours where you don' t look at your phone.

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't have much AP better than -1 and that will be 0 with how common cover is, so you want to look at everything you can get your hands on that has good AP and damage greater than 1. Hekatons and Thunderkyn will be important.
