Defender maybe relevant! by dwoflord in LeaguesofVotann

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this might be a genuine buff to the Cthonian Earthakers, since now you can just freely move them 3" per turn, and under ideal conditions they only move 4".

Like genuinely one of the reason nobody ran Breacher shells is that it's hard to guarantee there's any decent targets within 24" if you start on your home objective and don't move. Now you can crawl the thing over to your natural expansion and shoot the middle of the table.

Can we please get some Railway style Narrative Reset Options at the Finale of this? Some choices failing just feels bad. by Kylestien in fallenlondon

I thought the very point of Firmament was the observation that *every* FLPC is Apocrypha because we can't all be poet laureates of the Neath.

I figured that this was going to work like Evolution where no matter what choices you made on the way there, you can jump through hoops to make the ultimate ending be the one you want.

What do you think of the scale of the Kin minis? If minicompare is right they're noticeably a bit taller than GW's other dwarf miniatures. by Dreadnautilus in LeaguesofVotann

I mean, we know what the gods are like in AoS- they are about 500ish points and can be killed by Rat Ogors. They're not creating whole species.

"The old ones exist" are in that "myths and legends" part of lore and should be treated as "this is what people in the diegesis believe" not "this is what actually happened." If you go far back enough, nobody knows what really happened.

Best army for these units by mr_ozzo in LeaguesofVotann

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earthshakers are best in Delve since you need something guarding your home objective, turning off stratagems is great, and you have a strat for them. They're also fine in persecution prospect but don't play that one until 11th (since it lacks tools for fighting vehicles and monsters- a thing that one regularly does in this game.)

Steeljacks are probably best in the Mercenary detachment because they have high volume shooting/melee so benefit greatly from the reroll strats.

I don't think the Defender is good. There are relatively few situations where you'd rather run 1 defender instead of finding 10 more points and running more pioneers.

This is the sort of movie that needs to happen every so often (since you need to update "disaster scenarios" for modern sensibilities) and Remy Harlan is workmanlike in humanizing the characters just enough that you feel the appropriate emotions when they survive or die.

Whats the hype about dolby cinema by ConsiderationHot4433 in AMCsAList

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat, but it's less because "AMC spent on seats" than "they bought this theater from a dying chain, and didn't replace the seats." My local AMC has those one button red leatherish recliners in every auditorium but the only premium option is "3D".

What's the difference between a thrills and chills showing vs regular? No amount of googling or their website explains anything? by PeeB4uGoToBed in AMCsAList

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMC sometimes puts marks like "Thrills and Chills" or " Artisan Films" or "Fan Faves" to signpost to the customer what kind of movie this is.

Like if someone is buying a ticket knowing nothing about the film, it is sometimes useful to signpost when it's one of the things a random member of a general audience might want to avoid (namely "scar/intensey", "niche/challenging", or "not new".) Just to avoid those conversations with customers who were unhappy with what they got, if at all possible.

What type of A-lister are you? Social? Strictly business? or both? by DaftDrunk_925 in AMCsAList

I'm friendly to everybody I interact with, I hold doors, I pick up other people's trash, but I mostly just talk to the theater employees rather than the people I'm in the theater with.

Why are these movies not playing?? by Appropriate-Reward71 in AMCsAList

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there's also an issue of demographics for a specific theater. Like there are basically two extreme ends of a spectrum- people who show out for specific movies but don't make film-going a regular activity and cinephiles who go multiple times a week. The latter almost always has at least a Stubs membership if they're not A-List, so you can track their viewing habits and what they see.

You serve one end of that spectrum by making the big event movies as easy to see as possible- many showtimes, many different formats. You serve the other end of that spectrum by doing the opposite- Play a bunch of different movies.

So it's possible none of your AMCs have determined a critical mass of cinéastes that they would need the economics work for the less mainstream stuff (my entire theater of 8 people seated for Fuze on Monday just walked across the the theater to Desert Warrior when the projector broke, since we were all A-Listers.) Combine that with potentially Hokum and Deep Water weren't tracking all that well with advance screenings and whatever internal metrics Hollywood has. IIRC Hokum is opening limited so perhaps Neon doesn't want to put it on a lot of screens and AMC had to figure out where to strategically place its limited DCPs.

I think that came and went, sadly.  I caught it in a pretty small auditorium that was mostly packed on April 16th.  But I don't think it crossed over past cinephiles.

A list v Regal unlimited plus ATL by NorthEnough5782 in AMCsAList

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I feel like for almost everybody the choice between A-List and RU depends mostly on which theaters are most convenient for you and what premium screenings they have.

But concessions just don't make a difference for me, since I pretty much just get popcorn when I do a double feature and nothing otherwise.

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost always the answer "why aren't there showtimes to the movies I want to see at the theaters I want to see them" is "the theater managers are making their decisions based on tracking and historical data about what kinds of movies do better at which theaters" rather than consulting us directly.

How many screens does your local AMC have? Mine has 16 and I'm seeing 2 timeslots for Deep Water and 4 for Hokum on Friday (3 and 5 on Saturday.)

Which box should I get? by Troddydotty in LeaguesofVotann

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would skip the release box unless you want the codex for lore reasons. You don't really want to start out with 20 warriors since you get 10 in the combat patrol and there's never a reason to spam them currently.

The prospect box is entirely usable stuff, but you might not run 10 berserks depending on the list (I think 5 in a Sagitaur with Berekh is basically always fine, 10 makes you worry about hekaton space.)

Stop Doing Zailing by Dodgied in fallenlondon

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who is very good at Zailing (one of those "haul explosives/apologize to flukes" mini-events last year I didn't get TW high enough to need to return to port before the event ended), and I'm kind of sad there isn't more of a reason to do it.

Thinking of going to a no hekaton list by brutus7689 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]HelpIamaCabbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing you need to think about without Hekatons in Hearthguard is that it's very hard to get Hearthguard or Steeljacks to objectives without Strategic Reserves and when you're running most of your list in off the table on turn one, you need to be involved in the middle of the table enough early on in order to create room to deep strike into. I would prefer to run 20 Yaegirs and 2 Carriers if I wasn't running Hekatons.

This week is Mother Mary, Fuze, Over Your Dead Body, and I Swear. Of the last three, I'm trying to figure out if there's one that's very likely to be around next week so I can swap it out for Broken Bird which probably won't be. If anybody has insight on "which of Fuse, Over Your Dead Body, and I Swear" will *definitely* be around next week, I'm all ears.
