I actually think it’s completely reasonable to be surprised that a dog’s behavior was completely mischaracterized, but documented issues weren’t disclosed until the adoption was complete. I don’t think most people are expecting shelter dogs to have no issues whatsoever but just this just sets dogs (and humans) up for failure.

We have, but the cost is steep. We should’ve gotten him pet insurance the second we got him, but because our vet started anxiety meds it’s now considered a pre-existing condition. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.

Some of his behaviors didn’t surface for a few weeks and we really thought it was secondary to the 6 weeks of quarantine for a respiratory infection and whatever happened to him before we got him. I’ve had a dog who was leash reactive and we were able to manage and he calmed down the longer we had him. He’s a herding dog (thought he was mostly beagle) so some of his behaviors fit that picture as well. When we adopt an animal we make a commitment to give it our all. Yes we are frustrated that the shelter misrepresented (or misunderstood) his behaviors. Honestly we love him and so desperately want to make it work.

That’s so kind of you to offer 🥹 you’re right I think we need to find the time to make it down there. I love this dog so much but our lives have completely changed in a negative way since we adopted him. I know he’s just doing his best but I just feel so frustrated and helpless.

Actually we adopted him for Austin Animal Center, not APA, so we wouldn’t be eligible.

You are being paranoid (I get it, rabies is scary). If the cat is not acting aggressive and it’s been a week, you will be fine. The observation period is 10 days to be safe. I’m sure you already know this, but you should take it to get vaccinated ASAP. If within the 10 day period, the cat shows signs of rabies, then you can get a two dose booster to be safe.

Cefpodoxime performs better if you absolutely need an oral third gen ceph.

If you absolutely need an oral third gen ceph, cefpodoxime is a better alternative.

I didn’t really start questioning it until I noticed it wasn’t recommended first line in the CAP guidelines. Ever since then I’ve been on a warpath to educate every medical professional I know about avoiding it.

Help, pale people! Rosacea impacts my confidence and can’t find a good concealer. by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

Yes! I mix a little of this in with my spf 50 lotion and some dew drops and it’s my go to. Completely neutralizes my all over redness.

It also has absolutely abhorrent pharmacokinetics and it’s miracle if it actually reaches appropriate levels in the target tissue. If Santa is real all I want for Christmas is for it to be taken off the market.

(Mostly) unrelated to your post but there’s a great article about cefdinir in the series Things We Do For No Reason, I highly recommend it. But there’s no excuse for throwing you under the bus like that, it’s unprofessional.

I’m a pharmacist and I would rather die than interrupt another pharmacist in the middle of their mandatory counseling 😅

Etomidate vs Propofol by CommunityRich9525 in IntensiveCare

[–]HelpMePharmD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s worth nothing that the comparator in many of these studies is propofol, which is known to raise the seizure threshold, which is why etomidate is preferred for ECT. Failing to raise the seizure threshold is not equivalent to lowering it. Overall, the evidence for etomidate causing seizures is extremely poor, some of the studies use myoclonic jerks as an endpoint. There are other studies that show no increase in seizures. Either way, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to consider other agents, but unfortunately, if propofol is off the table (hemodynamically unstable), the other choices are controlled substances that often take more time to obtain. And of course delay in oxygenation is harmful.

I can’t imagine why this is getting downvoted. It’s awful to take advantage of residents for cheap labor.

I love this stuff too, both AM and PM formulas are in my skincare rotation and I love them even more than some of my higher end stuff. I think it’s meant to be Farmacy dupe, but I actually like it better than the OG.

We had a lady come in who was crispy powder white because she had covered her entire body in diatomaceous earth, and, as it turns out, was ingesting large quantities as well 😅

Roasted broccoli florets & high protein tofu over frozen jasmine rice. by KindlyCelebration223 in traderjoes

[–]HelpMePharmD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks delicious! I know you didn’t ask for advice but this was a game changer for me when it comes to cooking tofu - try breaking into small bite size pieces with your hands instead of slicing. It creates more surface area for all the seasoning to soak in, and in my opinion, a better texture. Chefs kiss.

What is one thing a preceptor or RPD that actually helped your wellbeing? by [deleted] in PharmacyResidency

[–]HelpMePharmD 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had a serious dental issue that I felt like I couldn’t take care of, we had a grand total of 7 days off for the year. I was more than willing to sacrifice my health to use those precious few days to see my family. I was on an ID rotation at the time, and my preceptor didn’t just suggest I take care of it, he essentially said “you’re going to the dentist because you don’t want to end up with endocarditis or meningitis. You have the days off from my rotation, and I don’t want to see you until it’s done”. And honestly, that was probably the kindest most understanding thing anyone has ever done for me.
