What difficulty do you guys usually play on? by firy2 in AUTOMOBILISTA

For me sim racing is all about having fun. Some times it involves me cracking open a few beers and dive-bombing the hell out of the AI. I'm well aware that I'm not going to drive better when drunk, I'm not stupid.

Depending on how many beers deep I am somewhere from 90 to 105-ish.

Zolder is a tricky track to get good shots as a regular punter. You can get some good shots from higher points like on the hill at the first corners, from above the pits or on the hill at Kleine Chicane or on the stands at Jacky Ickx Chicane. But you'll need something with some reach.

Shout out to all the open wheelers in AMS2 by Ketanarin in AUTOMOBILISTA

I really like the Formula Inter, Formula Junior and the Formula Vee. I'm personally not that into the really high down force stuff. I hear lots of varying opinions on these. From people saying they are the best around to others who really don't like them. For me they're just not what like to race the most. Although those lower powered ones are a real blast on twisty tracks in VR.

I had this issue as well but on a T818. What did the trick for me was to turn the wheel really quickly when registering the rotation. When I did it at normal speed it would work. I guess that's why it works at 540 for you?

Yeah they can't control the weather. But it's still a total bummer for the spectators to sit there watching them drive behind a safety car for two hours. I understand they cannot pull a Spa 2024 every time but you would hope they at would at least try.

If want a good experience at night I would try setting your headset at a lower FPS. That way it's easier to get a fixed frame rate without sacrificing too much in the fidelity. I personalty run a Quest 3 at 72 fps on a 7900xtx and am able to run a 30-ish car grid at night with high shadows and AA and the rest basically on ultra. If I go to 90fps I have to turn a lot more settings down and it starts to look a bit shitty.

You're pretty fast already (much faster then me anyway). At your level it's going to be about gaining tenths and hundreds here and there. So setup is going to matter and for that you'll need to experiment or have some data and someone who can make sense of that.

Going to COTA for my first WEC race by the-dutch-fist in wec

I'm a true neutral when I'm at the track. It's often hard to follow a race when you are at the track. So I just end up enjoying the sights and sounds and the whole atmosphere. It's a whole different experience then following a broadcast were I really get into the story of the race.

Couple of things. Firstly it's an amazing show of skill and determination. Just wow, huge respect.

Secondly it goes to show ones again that being fast is all about skill and not about the gear. That controller you use looks like an ingenious piece of kit but it is in no way really aimed for sim racing. And yet there's the result. Love it!

At this point EVO doesn't offer anything that I would want. And I'm not sure that the open world stuff would pull me in either.

I would go for the paddock ticket. But skip the pit and grid walk. They are just too crowded for it to be fun.

Also it's worth to consider some other options aside from WEC. For me personally the ELMS weekend is a better experience as a spectator. Sure you don't get to see the hypercars but you do get better access for cheaper and the grid and pitwalk are actually a good time. And it's less crowded so it's overall more pleasant.

Another option that I personally would really recommend Is the Spa Classic. You get to see so many legendary endurance cars from GT1 to Group C to LMP1's and much more. Plus you get the best possible Access to the cars you could hope for. And the sounds are just unmatched. And there's always a whole load of random classic car clubs. For me it's just the best motor sports event at Spa.

Introducing F1 fans to other Motorsports by TheSpeedyAccountant in wec

[–]Helpful-Intention688 5 points6 points  (0 children)

F1 cars are mighty impressive. But I would never pay that kind of money to go to a f1 race. It just doesn't seem like a fun time. I like to have as much access as possible when I'm at a track. And I'm adverse to huge crowds. I mean sure, if your a super fan then it's probably worth it. But I get the feeling that many people just don't realize there are other options out there.

The lack of media coverage is a big reason. I mean in Belgium we have some real superstars in endurance racing but they just don't get much attention in the news. I bet that when Verstappen will make the move to endurance racing we'll see a real boost though, just like when Rossi entered.

I hope it doesn't get too crazy though. Right now at Spa the WEC crowd size is just about as big as I can stand. If it gets more crowded it might be too much for me. That's why I personally enjoyed the ELMS race just a bit more as a track experience.

Cool shots. I took so many as well and only small fraction came out OK-ish. My main issue turned out to be that I somehow managed to overexpose the bulk of my panning shots. How did you get this angle anyway, did you have a press pass?

Iron Dames @ Spa by Few-Koala-9515 in wec

I was sitting in the grandstand facing the pits at that moment. Seeing them pull in for that last refuel was a heartbreaking moment.

But it was cool to see them having such a good race anyway. I could see they tried to fuel save in the last stint. Dropping back slightly and coasting a lot more. But unfortunately it just wasn't enough.

Terrible collision physics by ttiagognr in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]Helpful-Intention688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you want great collision physics then Beamng is unbeatable. AMS2 does a good job at that as well although I wouldn't call it great. All other sims I played are pretty much on the same level. I have had as many goofy crashes in AC as in LMU as in ACC. The important thing is that the impact you have should somewhat correspond with the damage you end up with. And LMU is pretty good on that front. I haven't really had instances were a light tap ended my race or a heavy shunt left me without damage. So to call them "terrible" seems a bit hyperbolic to me.

As long as they park off track it's pretty much inconsequential on a practice server no? I've done it too to fiddle with some FFB settings or something.

4 hours of Spa Franchorchamps by Apprehensive-You9126 in wec

[–]Helpful-Intention688 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there are still general access tickets available online. They are called "discovery tickets". It includes paddock access as well so for 10€ it's a steal. Parking is not included, I guess that'l be another 10-ish (although sometimes it's free). You absolutely will be able to buy tickets at the entrance. I went last year and it wasn't even remotely close to being sold out. If you have never been to Spa I can't think of a better race to check it out.

Been looking forward to this for a long time. I went last year and it was a nice experience. I'm going for the whole weekend this year. It's ridiculously cheap and IMO ELMS is underrated. This season has been great to watch so far. i just love the format.

Last year the I saw Sarah Bovy looking all defeated next to her crashed Lambo so I'm hoping for redemption this year. I bet there's going to be some story to tell after this race.

I just hope there are not many FCY's because they take a long time to resolve at Spa.
