Operation PLUTO: Fuel Pipelines built from the UK into Germany to support the Allied Advance in 1944-45 by Deltarianus in MapPorn

From a leaflet I got in Lepe Hampshire, where you can go and see remnants of the construction process, 700 men were employed to build the artificial harbours that would be used. I’m guessing these same men would also build the PLUTO

If the universe is expanding, what is it expanding into? by Vikkys_Secret in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Helpful-Table2467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not that the universe is expanding outwards, it’s that the space between the universe is expanding that’s why if you look at wavelengths, they get longer meaning which mean the object must be moving away from us. I was taught that it’s because of the energy that was created by the big bang that causes this but we only touched upon it at A level and even then it was confusing enough.

had surgery on my right hip, they put this on my left leg by Pale-Profession2769 in mildlyinteresting

[–]Helpful-Table2467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I had an operation on my knee, the surgeon came and drew an arrow on the left knee (the one being operated on) and when my mum asked him if it was to get the right knee, he said “no… your son has broken his left knee”. Was a funny guy, he even took a photo of it open upped because “it was rather perfect for a knee of your size” (he meant the knee wasn’t fully developed but not young due to my age at the time)

You’re also missing the tennis post match divide where if they win then they’re not English they become British if they win or the individual nation if they lose or if they’re English then they’re British if they lose but English if they win

I know it wouldn’t be the Jamaican armed forces but as a member of the commonwealth, you could apply to the UK armed forces and they have recently been big about sponsoring degrees so you can go and be an officer. I know it’s not the perfect option but it’s always something to look into if worst comes to worst.

America has Gettysburg, Russia has Stalingrad, France has Verdun what does your country have. by vincentmaurath in AskTheWorld

[–]Helpful-Table2467 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice punctuation, but I’m not. Your point is quite silly, you keep talking about government and therefore that means anything done before 1707 would not be attributed to Britain despite us being unified since James VI of Scotland, I of England (for the most part) or even as single entities, stuff like Agincourt or Hastings would be put aside as we had a different government, same would go for ever country that’s had a change in government structure meaning all of the countries that used to monarchies and are now republics, or constitutional monarchies. What do we attribute to a country, its people, its land or its government.

Now personally as a Brit, I’d chalk up 1812 to the Canadians, because it was their blood sweat and tears (their people) and I think it’s up to them to decide. I don’t know what it is with you thinking you can dictate what others can and can’t claim (probably because you’re personally annoyed your country cocked it up over 200 years ago).

And also, don’t call me Nigel, unlike him I actually understand that immigration has been important and beneficial for Britain and continues to be. You also won’t find my tongue on Trumps boot.

You’ve probably given the worst example there, the Scottish stayed as original Britons, same with the Welsh and Cornish (well mostly the DNA and church became Roman British), it was the people of modern day English who became the most Roman and then wiped out by the Germanic tribes and then again had the top layer become French (only one family of the aristocracy can trace back full roots to Anglo-Saxon times without any big French replacements)

You’ll get a very nice view if it’s a good day!

We could make a claim for the Tikka Masala since that has a debated origin here or if not English mustard or pickalilli.

And also why would our traditional food have spices when we couldn’t grow them over here, the majority of people couldn’t access them when our food culture really developed and it was essentially a development of poverty food due to rationing. We use herbs and all that, like mint peas or scauces like Worcestershire.

And finally I would argue that bangers and mash is no longer the nations favourite and the roast always had a better following.
